90% off Easter Eggs Incl Lindt Easter Chocolates (In-Store) @ Myer

1279

My wife was just at Myer Chadstone and saw that they've reduced all Easter eggs by 90%, including Lindt.

With Myer closing for at least a month commencing tomorrow, Sunday 29th March, for 4 weeks, they are clearing out their Easter egg inventory.

The previous 70% discount has been upped to 90%. We assume that the new discount also applies to other Myer stores around Australia. If any other store is offering a smaller discount, tell them about Myer Chadstone and get them to match the 90%.

Here is the wife's shopping receipt showing the 90% discount.

sorry are you the Public Health Minister?

      • +1

You must mean the Minister for Health? Australia doesn't have a public health Minister. No, and I'd listen to rather exhausted looking public health physicians standing behind the politician that try to give the unpalatable health advice as they really do know what they are doing but get overlooked so sensitive electors don't get offended.

    • +3

Get it over with in 8-12 weeks

This is something I see people saying a lot. Is there some reason to think better isolation will reduce the length of this ordeal? The way I see it, we're in this for the long haul, and even longer if we isolate well (as we should so fewer people die).

I am a doctor but I'm not a public health expert, so I may be missing something here.

      • You're obviously a good doctor if you know you don't know if all! Yes only realty PH physicians specialise in this. Disclaimer. I'm NOT a Doctor but do deal with this. A LOT of doctors are also looking for guidance.

Let's say you don't know you're infectious but have contracted it. You spread without knowing, get sick, get tested, and your contact tracing is a dammed nightmare. Or , you stayed still, and maybe only saw one or two people. This slows the spread.

Now, let's say that community transmission exists, fairly certain BUT limited at this stage (remember that sneaky old incubation contagious period, it'll come back to bite us later).

ALL risk. Disease especially, requires three things. A hazard (covid-19), a pathway (people spreading it, it dies eventually outside of the body), and a receptor (people who aren't sick yet). The only thing we can control is the pathway, covid can't be cured yet, and we can't remove humans (well. Not ethically!)

Once community transmission is controlled via a cessation of movement and our limited size ICU can save as many severe cases as possible, we can pinpoint the few hundreds to thousands of household where it is prevalent, isolate until the last close contact has been clear 24 days from last exposure or had had it (this could take a while to go through a family, no guarantees it will get everyone together, could be sequential!)
This is the old "14(maybe 21) day incubation period. So, within 28ish days, household that are forced to stay still that get sick will be sick, and they will not have been able to spread it to other household where it'll sit for maybe 14 more days before surprise another locally aquired cluster that had already gone to several other houses that will now pop up in another two weeks.
Community transmission is the lockdown issue, keeping the borders closed is for new sources. No one can honestly say they returned to Australia in the last 2 weeks and "didn't think they should self isolate".

        • +1

That sounds like a whole lot of "ifs" need to come together to work well. This is an unprecedented situation so I'll be impressed if that can be pulled off well enough and soon enough to make more of a difference than mass vaccination. I also don't know how long that will take since we've never had such an urgent need for billions of vaccine doses. It's a strange new world we're experiencing with car manufacturers making ventilators and breweries making hand sanitiser.

With retrospect everything will be obvious and everyone will be an armchair genius. I look forward to that, because it'll mean we've made it through. 🙂

Keep up the good work, whatever area it is you work in.

          • @jazoom: I wish I had am armchair! No guarantee of a viable vaccine, Mers and sars didn't have one.

Alway's a lot of "ifs". I'm sure you've had the same at work. "If this clamp holds and if this patient doesn't react badly to anaesthesia and if we have enough of their blood type and if the organ isn't rejected. Alwsys a lot of ifs in medicine, but you still have to try.

Virology and communicable diseases, esp novel ones there's guess work. But this isn't humanity's first rodeo!

            • @seraphim2017: Yes it's certainly an interesting time to be alive. I wasn't suggesting you were an "armchair genius", by the way.

        • -2

what's the problem with going out if I'm not sick and I follow the recommended hygiene protocol 100%?

          • +1

@ozbargainer666: One slip and you can say goodbye to your 100% hygiene protocol. And it is so easy to forget, you won't even know it and you'll already be on the other side. It's like walking, someone bumps into you, apologizes, just for you to come and pay for something, go for your wallet and it's not there. You didn't even feel it and you got robbed, in this case free corona.

          • -2

@ozbargainer666: No such thing as 100%.

I stand corrected. 100% arrogant is obviously a thing!

How do you KNOW you aren't a carrier right now? Asymptomatic transmission is a thing.

            • @seraphim2017: Why are you talking talking down to everyone? You are showing a complete lack of curtosy, I kinda wish the virus rips across Australia and wipes a few arseholes out. When this epidemic stops, will you be so aggresive on people to stop being obese, to stop smoking, and to stop drinking which leads to an incredibal amount of early deaths? No? Because, it only hurts them? It doesn't when leading by example has shown that the young are impressionable and it uses up our healthcare resources.

              • -1

@FabMan: Thank you for wishing the virus on anyone else. I wouldn't. I'm not talking down to anyone, I asked how the poster knew 100%.

Be well and be kind to others, some of the people you think are "arseholes" are fighting this, let's hope we're successful.

                • -1

@seraphim2017: Fighting obesity, smoking, alcohol consumption, drink driving as fiercely too? There is no moral high ground to these people "fighting" (abusing people online).

When this virus is over, they won't be doing anything to help the human condition unless it serves their own selfish interests. But they'll still claim a moral superiority and talk down to people. They have the 100% arrogance and 0% compassion.

                  • @FabMan: I don't recall abusing anyone. I think you need to look a little closer to home. Good luck to you I tend not to play pigeon chess so have a great day.

                    • -1

                      @seraphim2017:

                      No such thing as 100%.

I stand corrected. 100% arrogant is obviously a thing!

Completely unnecessary mocking of someone, shows your character. The last sentance of that statments stands alone and is completely valid.

How do you KNOW you aren't a carrier right now? Asymptomatic transmission is a thing.

                      • @FabMan: Fear of intelligence got us into situations where offering advice offends people. Happy to be considered arrogant by you.

Thankful you pointed out my error though, quite happy to be corrected, no such thing as 100% is indeed the same as certain, my mistake! 😀

And as you mocked MY character, does that make you as "bad"??

                        • -1

@seraphim2017: Fear of intelligence is not how we got here at all, you cannot effectively summarise a world pandemic and how it transpired into a single sentence. If anything I'd poorly summarise it as people believing in 'it'll all work out in the end' or 'it won't happen to me'.

I mock mockers, its something I like to do, and yes it does make me a bit of a jerk, but I believe in the 'taste of your own medicine'. It's primative thinking, but people stepping on others to feel morally superior always bugs me, so I try to show them how it feels. I don't believe you'll question your own actions and whether it was wrong, another great aspect of humanity.

edit: omg i thought this started tomorrow. lucky i realised otherwise i would have camped out overnight

What need to happen In Australia for people to stay at home? France, UK, or Italy? Stats.
Should mod start to ban in-store deals?

    • +2

I personally believe that Oz Bargain should ban all in store deals. This is the best mods could do!

  • +4

    Wtf? STAY HOME !!

    • -6

      I'm a Christian I celebrate Easter
We have freedom of religion in this country
Don't tell me not to go out to get Easter eggs
      You're repressing me

      • Had to read twice before I realised you were joking! 🤣

      • +2

        Jesus, don't crucify him!

      • +2

But you have the devil's number in your username?

  • How unfortunate that NOBODY will be going out for unnecessary shopping outings. Because we're ALL responsible people doing our bit to save lives.

    • Just call me Nobody then. Zero crowds, zero queues, just sweet discounted chocolate.

    • -1

A stranger's weak immune system is their responsibility not mine.

      • +1

I say the same thing when I run red lights - their brakes are not my problem

  • +1

To all the people saying stay home it’s not illegal to go out as long as u doo social distancing and don’t hang around in groups for some going to get chocolate is an essential item to help

    • +1

It's not illegal to be a fool.

On the flip side, Darwin Awards 2021 is gonna be mint!

      • +1

sad thing is higher chance the awards get awarded to the elderly in their family. The risk is not us dying, but being a super spreaders to the weak (old/immuno compromised individuals)

    • +1

It’s about not interacting with ANYONE. How else will you reduce the virus spread? That means, no touching trolleys, door handles, cash or receipts, items you pick up and handle but put back etc.

    • It’s not illegal to close your eyes when crossing a road either. If you don’t NEED to go out, don’t go out. By touching things you’re potentially spreading that virus, the health system can’t cope with mass infection and many people could die.

      Getting chocolate is not “essential”.

      • -1

It’s all propaganda if u don’t listen to the doom n gloom media and the gov u will be fine more people die from the flu
It’s not illegal to go shopping I don’t understand y people r so negative

        • +2

          Obvious troll is obvious.

        • Can't wait till lock down so idiots like you will have no choice but to stay home

  • Not worth the risk for me with my wife currently on chemotherapy for kidney cancer but a great bargain not the less! (+)

    • +1

      Sorry to hear that.

Got a friend on some crazy radiation infusion stuff. But they also have ZERO control. Lives at Myer, and smashes chocolate. I'd be more surprised if they didn't go.

      • I am also sorry to hear your wife won't get chocolate.

  • Would I have much luck in any of the Adelaide stores this afternoon?

  • +3

I only go out when I have to

I go to work and I work out the back in receiving so I have no problem with social distancing and I come straight home afterwards

If I have to go to the shops I make a list and ask the wife and kids if they need anything for the next 5 days that way they don't have to go out as well as I don''t need to shop as often and get mad at all these idiots who are well within the 1.5 limit of each other

    • Salute

  • +5

So many upvotes for this. For once I am really disappointed in the ozbargain community.

For those who don’t think social distancing is a serious matter, look at your extended family and name one person you’re ok with dying from all of this in the pursuit of cheap fking Easter eggs.

    Name them.

    • -1

The only people that have died from this in Australia r people over 70 and they all had underlying conditions as long as u do the right thing and keep your distance when shopping is ok

      • -2

Yup retail workers need an income too

      • +3

This 'only' attitude is completely ignorant. Healthy people have dies from this also.

Plus, you don't care about those people dying, shows you have no compassion

      • +3

Keep your distance when shopping is ok

Time to educate yourself. Read more about Europe, especially Spain - see how many healthy young people had already passed away. People in their 20s lost their lives, no underlying conditions!

Besides I wouldn't like to know that I have unknowingly infected anyone, whether they're young or in their 70s.

You come across as a very young dude who has no respect for elderly. 'The only people who died in Australia are over 70….' Is this not enough for you???

They are still people who's life should never be cut short no matter their age! And by staying home you can save their lives!

Getting out there shopping, touching items that others might have just coughed or sneezed at you're still at risk of getting infected.

Are you willing to take this risk in order to get cheap chocolate eggs?!

        • I’m only taking about Australia and as long as it’s safe and allowed I’ll kept shopping

      • +4

Even if this were true, how do you think all those over 70 year olds got the damn virus.

Maybe a 30 year old grandchild who thinks everything is fine went shopping for Easter eggs, caught the virus and gave it to grandma together with the egg.

I love chocolate, but I've got a close neighbour and friend on chemo and a husband over 80 with heart problems. No way am I risking THEIR lives for some cheapo chocolate.

However, legally the people doing this are not breaking the rules. The shops are open and it's not illegal to buy chocolate.

      • Retail workers won’t get much money because they’re always the low priority debtor. Even elite athletes can be infected, don’t say this is only the elderly and children virus.

      • Let's just hope you don't need an ICU bed for whatever reason when the peak occurs.

        • It will never get that bad and I’m now at bunnings as it’s still allows

  • Would anything else be 90% off at myer, maybe a good time to get high end items for cheap

    • Hahahahahaha

  • +6

To any moron who actually went - this is why we’ll still be in a lockdown this time next year.

    • Actually its not too hard to socially distance in Myer even prior to the outbreak .
But for me I do exactly that Mosher states above trying to do 2 trips to the Post Office a week instead of every day even though my products are booming with the social isolation . Only during 1 of those trips I'll do a big supermarket shop . Lucky for me the PO is on the outside of a major supermarket so I won't even walk inside it . I do the extra distant going around . Here most people are keeping their distance well :)

BTW I laugh when my partner said get some hot cross buns in a single shop no # ing way .

      • +3

"Actually its not too hard to socially distance in Myer even prior to the outbreak ."

Unless Myer scatter these 90% discounted Lindt's around the floor, people will congregate around the area it's sold.

        Try again?

    • -1

It's literally the same as going to Woolworths to buy toilet paper

      • +2

You'd have to literally be dumber than a brick to think buying essentials is on the same level as buying discounted chocolate.

        • How is it different in terms of spreading the virus?

  • +4

Stupid ppl not understanding what self isolate means.

    • +1

Self isolation is for anyone who came from over seas or has come into contact with peopl back from over seas
But to the red of us not in a panic or under the media spell it still allowed to go shopping

    • The prime minister says his wife just went out to buy their kids some jigsaw puzzles to play with. If they can go buy toys, why can't people buy food (chocolate)?

  • In store? Seriously? Don’t go. The real Easter eggs are more infected patients. It’s more evil than disposing them after Easter. Throw a heavy punch to lives of Australians before the shutdown?
