    • Below the description, click to see the different stores offering it . You'll see AZ eShop's one, fulfilled by Amazon for $87.55

Edit: ah just saw your edit

      • 2c more for amazon au compared with az

There are lots of fake sandisk SD/TF card, I only suggest to buy from 'sold by amazon'.

    • +2

Just had a fulfilled by amazon 256gb evo plus which turned out to be fake and ended up returning and just buying it from HN.

      • How does one tell if its fake? Is it purely if theres a big discrepancy in advertised storage size?

        • +3

          https://www.overclockers.com.au/wiki/Fake_Memory_Cards usually via software benchmarking.

Memory card capacities can be faked very easily (requires more than right clicking Properties of your SD card and reading what Windows reports as usable space),

the manufacturer can write code inside the card's memory controller to report a 16GB card as 32GB to the computer for example but when you start writing data to the card, anything that's written beyond what the card can hold becomes corrupted, and possbily what's already written to the card may also corrupted or over-written.

          • +1

@scrimshaw: Got the card today (came pretty fast, although I don't know if the write speed is as fast) and here are the results from H2testw:

Warning: Only 375558 of 375560 MByte tested.
            Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
            Writing speed: 49.2 MByte/s
            Reading speed: 78.7 MByte/s
            H2testw v1.4

Does this mean its fake as it is only writing at half the quoted speed?

            • @PorkHunt: Write speeds will always be much slower than the quoted 'transfer speeds'.

Manufacturers want to put the biggest number on the card, so if you see something like 100MB/s (megabytes per second) written on the cards packaging, it’s referring to the read speed and not the write speed, unless stated otherwise. Not only that, but they will also most likely be quoting a peak maximum read speed, rather than a sustainable speed. There's also all kinds of other factors, like how fast your card reader is, which might be bottlenecking transfer speeds.

Going by your test results of (read speed: 78.7 MByte/s) I would say that your card is highly likely within official specifications.

        • +1

You have to buy it then test it. A great free tester can be downloaded from https://www.vconsole.com/download (Flash Drive Tester)

You run the full write/read/compare but be warned it takes hours on large drives. It also will show the read/write speeds which are ALWAYS way less that manufactures claim.

I have over many years challenged sellers & always gotten a full refund for fakes, I have over 10!!!

If the drive has a "doctored FAT table" the compare will bomb out at the actual capacity of the drive generally at 2 or 4GB.

        • A few tells on mine was a fail on the H2testw which explained why I couldn't download any games to it as the memory was corrupted to begin with and the edging/border of the card was black. The official cards have a white edging/border.

    • Doesn’t matter. All FBA products are commingled.

Bought for $70 last year. So not the cheapest but i guess if your switch need some more space..

    • +2

Not the cheapest it has been, but hard to find cheaper with the currency exchange rates

Waiting for 512GB to hit the ~$90 mark again, and the 400GB is tempting with the current struggles of juggling 2 cards on a switch.

    • +2

Yea, was waiting on the same but 512GB typically $150+.

Got the 400GB for extra storage on my Surface Pro

    • I gambled and won a $60 AUD 512GB.

Looked legit it was a birthday present for a cousin.

Seller was not a store just a small user trying to sell a listing.

Honestly thought it was from an ebay guardian angel because was so lucky to find it at such a low price.

But yeah $90 512GB would be nice.. I paid same price I think for a 200GB few years ago man time flies.

      • +1

It could easily be fake, make sure you get that checked out.

      • Yep, very likely a fake. Test it with h2testw and return.

  • This U1? A1? Class 10? How does it compare to V30 U3 cards?

      • Thx so much dm01. I almost purchased this aiming to work with my DJI Osmo Action, but with its write speed, will definitely fail.

        • Yeah definitely no good for the Osmo. With SanDisk you'll want the Extreme or the Extreme Pro series.

  • Im also waiting for a 512GB microsd and want to buy once for both my switch and Surface Pro. Not sure why prices don't seem to drop even months before. 😭 I'll keep waiting even though this is a good deal

  • +4

Wow. Remember when a "big" USB drive was 256mb?😂😂

    • +2

My first SD card was a whopping 8MB

      • My first USB was 2GB, and I think it cost me around $150. lol

        • I paid $200 for a 4GB Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo.

        • I remember buying a 128MB USB drive for $80 way back when.

    • Lol I used to think I was hardcore with those chunky 256mb sticks at uni

      • +1

I paid around $1800 for my very first PC which had 1MB of RAM. I later paid $80 to up the RAM to 2MB. My friend, THAT was going hardcore.

  • exactly - i am gobsmacked that 400/512GB can even be on a MicroSD card - spend a bit of time to reflect how amazing that is - i have kept a 16MB SD just for posterity

  • Btw if you think this is enough for a hacked switch…..
I was surprised how quickly I ran out of space trying to install every game I considered notable.

It definitely will be nice once 1TB cards come down in price lol.

    • I experienced exactly that with 128GB!

      What was I thinking?!

Looking at these cards, but external HDD by USB is making a lot more sense.

      • Switch Game File Sizes

An example for myself… Grab these games + 1 update, 128GB card FILLED.

        NBA 2K20
        Mortal Kombat 11
        Witcher 3 Wild Hunt
        Resident Evil Revelations 2

400GB is a bandaid. Gonna bite the bullet, get a 4TB HDD. Opinions & reviews show load times aren't much different.

  • Sweet, My 512GB Lexar (got from deal here last June, $112) died last night on my Switch and was actually looking at a new card.

    • +1

It died in under a year? Make sure you get it replaced under warranty.

      • I'm in process of it now, Emailed the ebay seller last night and awaiting reply. I don't think it's looking that good (out of ebay/paypal return window of 150 days) but it's got a lifetime warranty but it's up to reseller to deal with it.

        • Is it an Australian seller?

          • +1

@dm01: I THINK so, But you never know with these sellers who say they are based in Australia but when you check them out fully they are HK or CN based and most likely this was grey market. So I'm not holding out on hope tbh.

            Edited :

I just got a email from the seller and he's going to send me a replacement without sending old one back. So hopefully it's all good, Going to double check to see if it's legit card when I get it using the SD card benchmark apps (didn't do it on last card since I was a lazy fool). I don't think it was a fake since I had 200GB of games installed on it but I've been bitten in the past with fakes.

This is back in stock btw

    • But priced higher.
