Why are they still using BNC/coaxial cables

    • +1

they are to cheap to move onto POE

    • +2

I thought you were taking the piss, but checked it out and as you said they are still using BNC/coaxial cables!!!

Who the heck wants to runs 8 BNC cables back to their recorder, when one Ethernet cable running to a POE switch does the trick (even for 4K).

      Who buys this crap?

    • +1

It is good if you are upgrading an old SD system, and want to use existing cabling.

For new systems, it is cheaper, but take the "4K" with a pinch of salt. Look at the price tag before complaining too loudly though.
These are quite decent by day, and good night vision costs $$$$.

  • +5

Stay away from anything Swann, their camera images quality is more crappier then cheap Chinese brand.
Their 4K Ultra specs are equal to 720 HD at best.

  • +1

Could people above care to suggest an alternative to this offer if it is that crappy?

I'm after a decent security system so am genuinely hoping to know what the ozb community uses.

      Look into hikvision or Dahua

      • +1

yes look into hikvision - but hikvision is quite expensive though

    • Thanks guys. I know hikvision but I thought it has been on the news lately due to security concerns?

      https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/chinese-cameras-remo…

      • if you going to install it in the australia embassy of course this is a main concern.
But if you just want to install it in your shop, for looking in front your garage drive thru, i think its fine.

      • I recently get a Hikvision 6MP Cameras & NVR installed in the home. It was quite expensive but the quality of the video footage and the APP is very good. If you have the funds I would recommend it

        • May I ask what sort of dollar figure for the 6mp cameras and NVR?

          • @sol3x: $2.9k for 4x cameras and 3TB NVR fully installed.

If you don't want to spend that much there is HiLook which is the same company as Hikvision but there more entry level system. $1.9k for 4x6MP cameras and 1TB NVR fully installed. These prices I've mentioned are for a single storey home.

            • @SaveMeDollars: Thank you @savemedollars
Did you get your set from eBay too?

    • If you’re going to use it for residential there’s not much concern. Just make sure you change the default admin password or better yet don’t connect it to the internet.

However you’re gonna be losing a lot of functionality if you don’t have that hooked up. All my cameras are for external use and nothing shows inside the house. I have motion detection switched on which sends me photos via email every time movement is detected of that area.

My cameras can be accessed via my IP address but it’s dynamic and changes every time. I have my app connected via P2P to make life easier and I honestly don’t care if I have to connect to some China server to do so.

Unless you’re holding some valuable data on your home network no one is going to bother hacking you. Most they will do is look at your garden and whatnot and mess around with your camera settings.

      • That is an excellent link.

        • Yes I wish I found it sooner. I did a lot of research before coming across it. It has everything you need to know and more. It helped me to finally make sense of all the myriad of options out there

  • I have HIK 8mp 4k system. Excellent quality day time and good night vision. Bought on ebay on sale for $1700 for 8 cameras and 16ch box. Normal ebay price was $2100. Also had to buy a hard drive so got 6tb WD purple for security system.
I have an app on the phone so can check out cameras on demand. Helpful when you think you hae forgotten to close the garage door. If the chinese are hacking my footage, they'd be bored in 10 mins.
I was going to buy swan but user reviews and sellers said they were shit.

do you still have the link or seller?

  • +1

Hi all my deal isnt available as i bought 4 years ago. This is a similar deal but with newer cameras.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/233376854175

You still need to buy a hard drive.

I bought a wd purple 6tb hard drive around $300.

  • Might want to get a varifocal camera first to determine what lens sizes you need rather than just buying a kit with all 2.8mm lenses

    Just a suggestion
