MacBook Pro 15" Touchbar i7/16GB/256GB/Radeon Pro 555X Space Grey MV902X/A $2499 Pickup/Delivered @ The School Locker

200

Hello.

Fairly sure this is the 2019 model.
OW have it for $3000 but they probably don't have any stock so probably hard to pricematch. I didn't try.

Pickup from various locations for $0.
Free Delivery or Standard Delivery: Beside the prices, I don't know how they differ.

Good deal considering the current (16") model is $3799. These have atrocious keyboards though.

    • Indeed and Apple will only replace a faulty keyboard for 4 years from the date it was retail sold.
After 4 years very expensive to replace it.

      • You mean you keep your laptop longer than 4 years normally?

  • Might pay to wait until the 2020 versions are out. They’ve just refreshed the air book range.

    • +1

What upgrades will it have? Most of the updates were already made on MBP 16.

      • +1

Don’t know, waiting to hear myself.

      • +1

CPU, Keyboard, WiFi 6 (probably not WiFi 6, given Apple so far hasn't used intel WiFi+BT chipset).
Maybe slightly bigger screen (narrower screen border).

But, given how weak AUD is currently, buyers will have to pay more.

  • macbook pro 16 is the way to go

I still wonder if the .4" increase in screen, better KB, cooling, 256GB extra storage and a better GPU is worth the 1300$ extra. Neither 5300 nor the 555X is for gaming anyway. So practically, its the KB and storage we are paying for.

      • +1

The 5300m or 5500m are significantly better than the predecessors for light gaming though. So if you want to do a little gaming on the side then it would be much better for that. Big price difference though.

  • This is a great price

  • is this the best price for a mbp given this spec? i'm really interested in this although i have no idea about mbp these days.

seriously considering upgrading from an early 2014 macbook air 13" since the sluggishness is getting to me

    • I would always check the refurbished site just to see what they have. I’ve always bought refurbished and never had any issues. It’s hit and miss what they have available though.

    • The price is good given the specs as even second hand ones on ebay are going at this price if I remember right. Only drawback is that Keyboards on these fail eventually as dust enters. I believe this problem has been fixed in 16" version. If you want to upgrade and dont feel like spending 3800$ on 16 incher, this is the way to go. Please wait for more expert opinions from others. If you want to switch to a windows one, then you can get a similar one for 1500$ if you wait for the right deal.

15 inch MBP is for really doing work / development. It's on the bulkier side in terms of size. Intel H series CPU with 6 cores / 12 threads so it is really for work and does drain more powerful than U series. It's more of a laptop than an ultrabook. 87W power adapter.

It's an overkill if you don't do development and/or video work on it.

Macbook Air 2020 range have the new (well, technically Apple went back to an older design) keyboard which is more reliable.

      • Sorry, me bring a developer I was thinking in those lines and totally missed that he had a 13 incher earlier ;)

Your point is still valid. For a brand new MBP 2019 15 inch, the price is good. Obviously, Apple tax isn't cheap. Apple no longer sell MBP 15 inch brand new (can only buy 16 inch brand new from Apple at the moment).

With butterfly keyboard and Covid-19, it is much easier to resist getting one of these.

          • @netsurfer: this is definitely a home laptop to drag around the house (1). for a price $2.5k, and potentially keyboard failing (2)? thats crazy to me. so because of reasons (1) and (2), i guess mba is the way to go for me. sucks i was really tempted.

i mean is there any preventative measures you can do to prevent the keyboard from failing?

            thanks for input guys!

            • @KYoohu: Avoid eating when using the laptop and keep it clean. Some people think it is a matter of when, rather than if the keyboard will break.

Price is good, but MBP 15 inch isn't something I would carry around a lot. Work provided me one. Most of the time, it is on a desk.

Normally, you would get a 15 inch laptop if you need the extra processing power or you are on a tight budget and willing to keep the laptop on a desk most of the time. If latter, it doesn't feel quite right paying Apple tax.

  • I was lucky to get 15” 2019 pro (i9/16Gb/500GB) at officework for $3000. I am am very happy with my purchase. 😊😊😊

    • HI bro,

I walked to Sydney OW last month … actually I was looking for 16” but I saw a display advertisement for 15”. I asked for details in store and the guy checked and told me that he had just one left. In fact he was not allowed to open the box. He told me that I can and check later I can return if config would be different 😊😊😊 and bingo I got the best i9/ 512gb

  • Thanks OP, price matched with OW for click and collect at 2374!

    • Can i know how you got it price matched for click and collect?

      • You ring them up to price match.
Have the websites opens makes it easier.
They will offer to deliver it to your local OW for click and collect.

Maybe it can be done in-store too. I don't know.

        • ok, i did check with the store but they didn't any stock left and none of the stores have it either. So did you ring up a store or the call centre?

        • They still have the space grey one online, my receipt shows MBPT1519GY. I am still able to add this to cart: https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/macbook-pr…

From my experience (results might vary), I went to the store (Russell St, Melbourne) showed theschoollocker listing of 2499, they checked the details and said ok they'll place the order, I could have it delivered or to deliver to store.

From recent experience, longer delivery times are expected. I chose click and collect as I still work in the city and this removes the risk of lost mail if the courier places the package at the door (which they did for my last purchase).

@JBEG: That's great. Hope it all works out.

          • @JBEG: ok, I'll give it a try again in another store then. Thanks

    • That's pretty cool. OW matched even though they are out of this colour.

You are getting a silver one from OW, I guess?

EDIT: Hope you get the one you ordered. (space grey)

  • So tempted for video editing but need it for travel and not sure if 15" is too big. And new 13" MacBook pros are coming out soon too..

    • I travelled a lot with a 13” and couldn’t imagine having anything bigger. I’m only getting one of these while we’re all stuck at home but will be switching back to a 13” when travel recommences.

Just make sure the 13” has enough grunt (no dedicated graphics) for what you want to do, especially if it’s going to be a docked desktop replacement.

    • New 13inch may be similar physical size with 14inch display.

  • Thanks OP. Grabbed one at OW with a price beat.

There’s still plenty of stock around the country for pickup according to this site - https://ow.c0r3.xyz/result.php?product=MBPT1519GY&state=ALL&…
