Seems like a reasonable price, kinda of sick of waiting for the Pixel 4a as well.
COVID-19 and a weak Australian dollar could both mean it's delayed and priced higher.

    • +4

      not far away though.
I think the 4a is probably worth waiting for.

      • Around mid may

      • i too am waiting on the 4a. hope there is a XL version but doubt it

        • If it's 5.8" as the leaks say, it looks like they're wanting to slot it in right between them.
          I did say I wouldn't go below 6 inches, but I might do 5.8".

  • The phone will be locked to Vodafone ?

  • How are the cancellations going? I seem to recall people were having issues early on (in the other thread for a pixel 4).

    • Yeah still waiting. You might find yourself fighting them not to charge for at least the first month…

  • +1

Would expect you're still on the hook for the first month plan fee for this which makes the min cost $459.

    • Considering the month to month is done pro rata, would think it depends when you cancelled the plan. I hate to be charged the full month fee if I had only joined velocity for a day.

        https://www.vodafone.com.au/support/plans/close

"Our plans are charged one month in advance, which means when you cancel your service your final bill will typically be a $0 amount and simply show a summary of your usage. However, you may see extra charges:

If you cancel your service mid-way through your billing cycle, you won’t receive a credit or a reimbursement on your plan fees for a partial period."

Looks like they do charge you for the full month

They waive the first month off under their network guarantee, I got it waived for pixel 4 xl deal

Such a solid phone. Really like mine

How much better than a 2XL? I'm at the end of that plan and need to upgrade as the battery isn't lasting any more and screen is shot.

    • +2

Screen size of the 2 xl was good, but the speakers were terrible, and the screen not usable for me due to black crush and smearing in low light. The 3a screen is better and just less buggy all round. Noticeably slower though with the budget CPU. When I use my partners pixel 2 I notice it's a lot snappier

      • +1

The 2xl is faster? Jesus my 2xl is whilst not unusable, quite slow and laggy.

        • I don't have the 2 xl any more to compare. But my partners 2 is faster side by side for sure. I did hear reports of the 2 xl slowing down to almost being unusable but the 2 doesn't seem to have that issue

        • There is something wrong with your Pixel. My Pixel 2XL 128Gb feels as fast as any current phone.
Consider resetting your phone to factory defaults.

          • @vrsac: I have, the phone just doesn't feel snappy…it seems to be slower than my inputs sometimes which doesn't feel right for chips moving at the speeds they do

            • @[Deactivated]: I find that very hard to believe as Pixel 2XL feels smoother and faster than a Samsung 9+ that has a faster processor and more RAM.
Google's UI is so fast, only OnePlus comes close to it.

              • @vrsac: For example, I open a picture in messenger and I press the back button, nothing happens, I try and try again but it doesn't go back to the chat, it exits the app entirely. Sometimes an input takes a second to register. When I use the search bar to search for an app, there's a lag and the apps don't show up, I have to press home and do it again. Typing sometimes there's lag delays. The camera can be quite slow. When doing mutiple things in a fast sequence there's lag. You're right, it's a combination of software but given how light Google UI is, I expect it to be faster. I'm going with OnePlus next, it seems so much snapper.

    • wait a month for 4a, looks to be a good deal based on specs leaked, not sure if Google will pull another Google and make a blunder though

  • this one or Ulefone Armour?

    • Ummmm honestly?
If you don't need a "rugged" phone, I would definitely take the 3a with 3 years of support over the Ulefone Armour (I had to look it up) with presumably none.

64GB with no option of additional storage is a tough sell.

    • +2

Not really an issue if you use cloud based stuff. Mine does get full but only because I don't use Google photos auto delete, I manually copy photos/video to my archive so I have them locally as well as the cloud.

      • +5

Non Pixel people make a huge deal out of 64gb storage when my 64gb Pixel 4 still has 28gb free. Everything lives on the cloud these days.

    • I somehow manage with 32gb. I'd be happy with 64gb.

    • +1

Not trying to be an ass, but I'm curious what your use case is that needs so much storage?

Photo and video is the only real growth thing for me, and Google Photos handles it perfectly (and is free).

  • Just picked up a 4XL under the other deal, but wanted to ask about porting. Anyone have the email address to send a porting request? I cant understand what the lady says in the prerecorded message.

    • Activating sim online is pretty straight forwards, even if you decide to port your number over.

      • It states in the paperwork to activate esim to call them if you want to port. The phone number is not currently being manned, hence no porting through the supplied method. Told to send an email, but the email isn't clear.

        • I don't know about esim, just activating/porting regular Voda sims only.

    • +2

Hi mate, email is [email protected] (took a few go's)

      • Legend!

  • My 4XL was purchased from a store… Never got a security code for the eSIM, but the rest was sent by email. Deactivated my prepaid eSIM, but am unable to get a security code or have my prepaid eSIM re-issued as apparently the staff in Fiji aren't able to access that.

Made it much easier to make up my mind on the network guarantee. Thankfully my main number is with Boost.

  • I had the 3a but I don't like the narrow screen. I would recommend looking at one before you buy. Get the XL if you are going to get one it's worth a the extra dollars.

  • I've ordered my Pixel 4XL a week ago and order has not been processed yet. After many hours on hold, they told me that order processing is very slow due to VF Indian call centre being shut down.
If you need any help and get stuck, may the force be with you! I've given up on Pixel 4XL 128GB order.

  • Can you do this in-store or is it online only? Do any stores price match, like JB?

  • Looks like the pixel 3a is no longer in stock, although the 4 is still available.
