        Narrow minded

        • ppl who buy only apple devices are narrow minded

      • -2

        @ furythree

I'm not sure what you are implying but by stating that the ipad 2 is not a useful device is rubbish.

It may be the perfect tool for someone looking for a tablet runnig iOS - i'm no an apple fanboy, but it's irritating to see people comment as if their own opinion is fact

  • +2

awesome deal! now if only shoppingsquare will do better deals on DSLR cameras. Bring it on!!

  • woah..

  • Price drop :) I love it :)

  • under $500 for an ipad delivered… hmm not bad

  • +6

i would really be disappointed if i bought this and ipad 3 came out at October, but with all these discount, it appears more possible than ever!!!!

    • +3

These aren't discounted due to a new model though. They are discounted because they are imported from a cheaper region (Hong Kong).

      • +6

but even hk retail price is higher than this, i smell something unusual… :)

        • +23

That would be the sweet scent of savings..

        • lol

        • +7

what kind of retailer would source at retail….

    • +1

Instead of being like Jerry Harvey complaining about HN only making a 9% increase in profit - smaller retailers are creating more efficient supply chains ie a Gray Import
Usually the downside is that it doesnt have a local warranty support BUT these iPads have an Apple International warranty

    • +1

Pretty sure the new one isn't due out til Feb

  • +2

    but its shoppingsquare…

    • +1

But unlike other SS sourced products where you need to deal with SS for warranty/support this has an Apple warranty :)

      • -6

you would need it too cause its an appleproduct :)

  • +1

That is the retail price in HK apple stores

    http://store.apple.com/hk-zh/browse/home/shop_ipad/family/ip…

    HK $3888.00/8 = $486.00
Why do we always have to pay more for everything?????

    • -1

so shoping square can sell us cheaper than hk price, thats good~

do you mean why do we (here in australia) have to pay more for everything ?

    • +9

Its australia, we have to pay more for everything.

      • +1

because we are here down under…….

        • +6

Yeah… You pay more for things down under LOL

    • +1

Most things are set at market price. If people are willing to pay $600 for an iPad and they can make a larger profit from doing so they will.

    • That's the price at the apple store, imagine their retailers, if it's like here where they go for 5-10% less it'll be around 470-440 bucks

    • +34

You'd have to sell quite a few socks to get an iPad.

  • USA price for 16gb3g is US$629. is anyone know if i have a friend in USA now and she will go back to sydney, if she can buy it at that price (USD629) without any tax and bring it back here for me ?

    • Yes but why, it's cheaper through this bargain?

    • +10

I think you would know if you have a friend in the US, how are we supposed to know

    • +1

Sales tax depends on the state they are in.

    • Depends on the state (US sales tax)

  • +1

    lol older sock

  • First post has to go this deal, needed a 16gb wifi so awesome stuff.

    • based on my experience, i regretted i bought ipad 1 wifi only.
go for 3g, you never know when you need it. sometimes there is a good deal on cheap data plan here on ozbargain.

      • +8

See if your phone has data and personal wifi hotspot functionality. Saves on the cost of having separate devices with duplicated functionality.

        • i did that. but if you on travel, that way will cost your phone battery, and you cant be separated from your phone….

        • mifi anyone?

      • +1

I agree, I should never have listened to the salesman as to the "differences" being just one has 3G and one doesn't. The 3G version also has true GPS and a proper accelerometer. I found out the hard way when trying to run various navigation and speed apps. I was happy not having 3G (I use a single mobile WiFi hotspot for whatever device I want to use) but had to jailbreak and use hacks to get the other features. This means I walk around with a pocketful of support gadgets that also need charging :(

        • although when you tether it to the iphone, the iphone can pass GPS data to the ipad albeit with 1 minute gaps

  • +16

God, $170 for 48GB of extra storage. Apple makes the most expensive flash memory.

  • +3

I assume that if you order more than one in the same transaction, then it will push it over the threshold for GST to apply at customs? Gotta be careful of that when looking at combined shipping.

    • +1

Correct. 2 x 16gb wifis are fine. Anything else and customs could slug you with GST as the total will be over $1000. Better to just pay $10 more postage of you want 2 or more units

      • +1

Why would you pay duty if you are purchasing and paying an Australian business with an ABN???

        • +1

Usually, you'd be absolutely right, no issue, but if you read the last ipad deal thread from SS a few users mentioned that the tax invoice they received didn't have a break down for the GST component. I suspect as they are essentially drop shipping these from SS's HK arm, they show the sale on their internal systems as originating in HK. When you combine that with an item coming into Australia from overseas addressed to you and worth over $1000, then you could get slugged as technically GST has not been charged on the goods. Whatever the case, my point was who wants to go through all that crap for $10 so if you are buying more than 1, just order them separately.

  • Does Apple warranty also covers grey imports?

Where does it say international warranty?

      • +1

        Not sure, apple does

    • +3

See the Kogan deal thread. Somebody there actually got a comment from Apple about it. Seems to be fine - you can just walk into an Apple Store anywhere and they will support you as long as it's still in warranty (which starts from the moment you first activate the device in iTunes).

      • +2

As zzyss says and as SS clearly state it is covered by - Apple Manufacturer Warranty - that's the way Apple rolls

    • +1

From the "Important Information" PDF for iPads on Apple's site:

  • These are the 2011 models right??

    • doh, since when ipad 2 comes in 2 models…
      yes 2011

  • +2

Just bought a 32gb Wifi model.. works out $20 cheaper than the Kogan deal.. thanks :)

  • +6

They even use engrish for their coupon codes.

  • +2

Great deal, good to see some rivalry between Kogan and Shoppingsquare!

    • +1

      yup~ win-win for consumers =)
      let the price war continue!!

    • +1

      So why didn't you +?

      :P

  • Last time when I was at an Apple store, I heard the Apple staff telling a customer that they do price match (BigW was having 10% off). What's the chance of Apple price matching this? While it is good ShoppingSquare is doing this, I am not a fan of ShoppingSquare or Kogan.

    • But BigW is a store and this is online, so maybe not.

      • -1

No harm to try right? Too lazy to call.. hehehe…

        • +1

Let me know after you call them :)

        • +3

Has to be physical stores.. you are right.

        • +2

you can do it, you know you want to

  • +1

Even better than the Kogan deal. Maybe Apple will take notice, and give Aussie's a fairer go.

    • +1

With the guy that used to be responsible for Apple worldwide distribution taking over the top job upon Jobs' departure - and this local price jostling - we can certainly hope so!!

    • Sadly i don't think apple will ever drop their prices that low. They do mark up a bit, but you also have to consider the fact that some of that money goes into having things like the genius bar - which cheaper brands don't have anything like. you have to pay a premium for quality. However due to parity i think they should really drop prices a bit lower.

Obviously apple have worked out what price people are willing to pay in each country they sell in, and in asia people aren't willing to pay the premium that we are - probably due to the market being flooded with cheap knockoffs.

      • If the genius bar did this, I'd actually buy an iPad

      • what did I say that deserves a downvote?

you people are all mental midgets. vote up a dude who puts an apostrophe in "aussies"

        should rename this site ozbogan

  • hope you guys don't get a 1 month wait on shipping :D

  • to those asking why we pay more for everything.

we are 1% of the global market, and it costs a whole lot more manufacture and ship to australia for such a small market….so deal with it.

    • plus 10% GST

      • don't forget we had sales Tax before GST

    • +7

So Hong Kong is 0.3% of the global market but the price there is cheaper than Australia.

      • What xristo is getting at is that it costs a lot of money to neutralise gravity, so that they don't fall off the Earth when being shipped to Australia. I mean that's the only explanation right?

        • +2

it's expensive to ship to australia, there are pirates constantly roaming around the sumatra islands along the Timor Sea, insurance companies charge a hefty sum per trip.

  • Just order 1. great price

    • yes sir!

  • +7

Thought the ozbargainers were against SS. Shows that we can crack on our principles as long as they lower the price ;)

    Reverse prossies.

    • Not everyone. Kogan / SS is the reason I don't want to get it. Though I guess not wanting an iPad 2 at those prices is the main reason (greedy). HP TouchPad fire sale (which I missed out) also had some effect. Come on HP… make some more TouchPads.

Also, not a fan of iTunes… quite annoying.

      • +1

I have heard from people who work at apple that they will soon update the firmware on ipads so you dont have to connect to itunes ;)

        • yep, over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates with iOS5 :D :D

thought kinda affects my Justin-Bieber-ing hobby

  • +1

    Yay!
    Cheaper for us!

  • +2

    dONT FORGET moneybackco!!

  • Is this price inc GST?

    • because it is shipped from overseas it doesnt have gst added. However I think if you buy over $1000 of product in one go customs/the taxation dept add the gst. Someone who knows more will come along soon with a better explanation I'm sure!

      • You are correct. $1000 is the GST-free threshold.

      • Thanks mate, so if I go overseas I can't claim the GST, it seems if I buy from JB hifi and claim the GST it would be the same price probably.

  • -1

Shipping comes up as $49.00 and the code doesn't seem to be working… any idea

    • works for me mate.

  • I think this is the first time you guys have been so nice to shoppingsquare normally you attack with 10 negs instantly as soon as this store name pops up.

    • +1

To be fair it could be because the other deals are crap.

      • AGREE

    • Thats mainly because of their customer service I guess….

  • Price is good = one plus, but give me a reason to upgrade from ipad to ipad2.
