Aware of the comments and feelings around refurb earphones, the price however seemed to be pretty decent.

depends how long since they were used.
connecting activates the warranty counter so you may have a good chunk of time or y may have nothing, depends on backlog of stock and how fast the supply chain moves
Never understood the hate for seconds AirPods. I mean, I get it, it’s not ideal, but they are cleaned to within an inch of their life and they’re sitting in your ears you’re not sucking on them…

That's the thing, we don't know how true this is though. So many refurb posts on OzB claim to be refurbished but exhibit no signs of an actual refurbishment when the products rock up to people's doorsteps.
good luck getting the ear wax out. or replacing the battery. or doing anything apart from giving them a wipe with a tissue
I don't care how much they wipe them, the ear wax when warm and wet get right into the speaker grill. No amount of wiping can get all the crud underneath the grill. They certainly don't crack them open to clean them.
No way I'd be using 2nd hand earphones. Even if free.
