Thanks OP! Pity it's so wasteful! Landfill!

  • +6

Don't understand why manufactures are keep making these landfills. They should be charge a tax for dispose these one-time-use products.

    • Yep, but cost of ink is so freaking high that it doesn't make sense to buy ink. Thus keep buying such cheap units.

      • +7

No need to, there's cheap options out there for ink refills - https://www.rihac.com.au/product_info.php/mg2560-carts-p-210…

Just check this link, Black and Color set is like $42 including delivery, which unfortunately still more than price of new.

          • +1

@anonymoususer: The ink cartridges in these printers is 1/3rd the quantity of new cartridges. They only provide a small amount of ink to get you going.

            • @bargain ben: Exactly, you'll buy the new printer over and over but you still won't get the same amount of ink that you'll get with my link…

      • +2

I can get a whole set off ebay for $10. And it comes with free shipping

  • Though I don't know how many pages they estimate from ink which comes with printer (may be 60-100?) And how many pages from new ink? Don't know if it's same level or different.

    • +4

You know you don't get the same amount of ink from the bundled starter cartridges, right?

      • Canon typically gives full size cartridges. You can check the claimed yield printed on the box with the same cartridge bought new.

    • +5

It's different. There's at least 3x the ink in refills. You really are better off buying refills than a printer every time Or there are different hacks for different ink cartridges to refill them with cheap ink.

    • I’m 99.9% sure that Canon printers come with a full set of ink in the box. Can’t say the same for other brands though.

Thanks OP! Will buy a couple to switch over when my current one runs out of ink.

      Haha…tree huggers

    I got this in $15.

Printed 15 pages and black ink started showing low.

Buy generic tanks for around $8 from inkstation.com.au.

  • +11

I'm no enviro freak but throwing these out repeatedly is pretty disgraceful.

Please look into generic ink tanks on Ebay etc.

  • "Unit was supplied with defective black ink catridge.

    published 2 months ago

Purchased from Big-W Arndale SA. Easy to set up and connect but you need your own USB cable as none is supplied. Unable to test print quality as the driver showed the black ink tank supplied with the unit to be empty. Looked like it had just dried out. Replacement ink at $52 would cost more than the printer itself at $36. Will return the unit.

Purchased in February 2020 at Big W for $36.00."

I bought the canon ts50560 recently and it seemed to be the best value separate ink tank printer going around at the moment. Happy to be corrected. Can buy clone 671 tanks etc or do refills. Its alittle bit less than double the price but at least its not direct E-waste.

    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/canon-pixm…

    • What do you mean by separate ink tank? Is that an advantage because cheaper? (no idea)

      • +1

It has 3 separate colour tanks. Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. If you do a lot of colour printing, it is cheaper in the long run. You only replace the individual colour rather than the whole tank.

      • +1

So with a print head in printer, The print heads are fitted to the print runner instead of the ink cartridge, So you get 5 (extra is photo black) individual ink tanks which can be replaced one at a time. Also they are just plastic tanks with a simple kill chip fitted. Which allows 3rd parties of make the tanks. Advantage is cheaper, easier ink refills.

You can buy one of these cartidge ones and get a syringe refill kit but usually you need a dock to clear the kill chip, which gets expensive.

Example 3rd party tanks for a tank system printer i.e. TS5060.
