  • My kids live on this stuff for snacks.
    Thats a great price.
best price i have seen in Melb is $2.65 (5 pack)at Sams wharehouse.
They were $1.25 (5 pack, 25c each) in Matahari supermarket in Kuta last july when we were there.
My kids wanted to pack their suit cases with them to bring home…

    • +6

They are like 8 bucks for 30 packs in many Asian store in melb. Try Indonesian store in qv called laguna or other Asian store

      • I dont usually buy them, the missus does.
But your right, worth a look in the Asian shops when passing.
Not many down in Narre Warren, compared to when i lived in Clayton several years ago :)

      • +2

        those are 40 packs :D

    • +4

your kids won't be living for long…

  • Good price for mainstream shops but nothing special really. Check out pretty much any Asian grocery shop - you can get this kind of thing from as little as around 15c a pack for nasty ones, around 30-40c a pack for decent ones.

    • +4

      But 40c x 5 = $2.
So this is cheaper anyway. :)

      • +5

        save 34 cents, still a bargain :)))

  • To the nearest cent it's actually $1.67. Still pretty good but.

    • +2

If you buy one, it's only $1.65 :)

  • +6

people… go to a Chinese grocery shop. 40 packs (1 box) for $10 (5 years ago…) I guess it's about $15 for 40 packs these days. It may be cheaper depending on the shop. Btw these have a lot of MSG… not recommended for anybody really

    • $1.66 X 8 = 13.28 - so this is cheaper if it is $15 in chinese grocery stores

      • i'm talking about everyday purchase :P

        • +10

          THIS… IS…. OZBARGAIN!! :)

    • barkly square, brunswick in melbourne has an asian supermarket selling 40 packs for 9.50, have done so for the last 3 years at least

    • you can still find em for cheaper. i get the boxes for $11 in glenferrie melbourne (Vietnamese grocer)

    • MSG is fine.

      • Food Standards Australia New Zealand[32] (FSANZ) cites "overwhelming evidence from a large number of scientific studies" to explicitly deny any link between MSG and "serious adverse reactions" or "long-lasting effects", declaring MSG "safe for the general population".

It does, however, describe that in less than 1% of the population, sensitive individuals may experience "transient" side effects such as "headache, numbness/tingling, flushing, muscle tightness, and generalised weakness" to a large amount of MSG taken in a single meal. People who consider themselves sensitive to MSG are encouraged to confirm this through an appropriate clinical assessment.

  • +1

Hmm, I'll have to taste what this Indomie stuff is about. Maybe it'll be in a Harris Farm near mie, I mean me.

    • +2

Try it .. its addictive I think they might use drugs inside or something :) a true ozbargain meal

      • +7

yea its called MSG. Love it

  • +3

I owe my uni degree and where i am today thanks to Mi Goreng!

    • +3

Same here! 2 meals a day 5 days a week throughout uni!

      • +1

Wonder why you can pass uni with that much msg on your brain :)

        • +1

Like antzz said, maybe they have drugs in it to stimulate the brain.

        • +1

Soon you can blame your malnutrition on Mi Gorge!

      • disgraceful, anything less than 7 days a week, might even go upto 8 during exam time.

        • +5

You can eat 8 days a week?
          What planet?

        • I missed the ;) at the end of the comment ;)

    • where you are today clearly isn't a practicing dietician ;P

These will be 3 for $5 ($1.66ea) at Coles nationwide starting from Wednesday as well.

  • +3

nom nom. everything artificial in a little square bag

  • +2

Tong LI supermarket at Hurstville 5pk only sell for $1.49..even cheaper than u ever see before ca6leguy

    • you win

    • Why not post it up earlier so that others can share the bargain? Damn I could have saved 17 cents.

      • -3

Because it isn't a bargain. And neither is this. If you can get something cheaper elsewhere, how does that constitute a bargain?

        • Oh I dunno, how bout cause not everyone has direct access to all possible sources at all times?

Visiting local Harris Farm within walking distance
+ time and fuel saved by not driving over 100km to Asian grocer
          = bargain

  • +5

You can get 40 packs everyday from just about any Asian grocer for 8-9 dollars.

    • +10

No idea why I was negged.

      • +2

You seem to have mistaken Ozbargain for some sort of Democracy

  • the big supermarket / woolies sell the export quality of it, that's why they're more expensive than any regular asian groceries which usually sell the products to be sold in INA.
to compare, the local ones don't have the english text on the package (e.g. 'fried noodles', but simply 'mie goreng'), or check the manufacturer details at the rear.
they still taste the same, but i prefer the export quality, the noodles are more chewy

    • +8

I've had both and they seem the same to me. I think the 'chewiness' really just depends on how long you cook it.

      • +3

yupe, depends on the cooking time

        • +1

well if you guys really think so, can't say anything more, otherwise might end up being called a food / mie goreng snob

    • +2

Mi Goreng snobbery at it's finest.

Most people buying Mi Goreng are buying it for a 2 reasons.
      1. It's cheap
      2. To fill their stomachs

      • wasn't trying to play food police there, just what I and most Indo people think of it

      • +7

no.3 it tastes good as well =)

    • +4

There's a grey market Mie goreng now?

See, that's part of the reason I come here. To learn.

      • there's a grey market for everything. Even for grey market items-> grey's online

err…that didn't much sense, but you get the point ;)

    • Yeah I noticed the different types too, export ones are much better IMO.

  • +7

Any asian grocery sells them wayy cheaper.

    • +3

Soo true, just visit 1 and you'll know, blind leading the blind…

      • -3

The blind? Howzabout seeing things clearly enough to factor in accessibility and convenience.

We have a local Harris Farm Markets but the nearest Asian grocer is over 100km away. No brainer.

        • +4

Please tell me where you live so I can open up an Asian grocer there and make a killing.

        • This isn't about u…, its about the MAJORITY who know an Asian store and dnt even THINK to step into one to check out prices…, No brain

        • +4

"but the nearest Asian grocer is over 100km away"

This is listed as Harris Farm Baulkham Hills. There are literally dozens of them within a 5km radius. Blacktown alone is a minefield of Asian grocers.

      • +1

        1+ agree

    • agree

      • +1

I'll post a receipt to prove. I've purchased more than 10 boxes throughout my life.

        • +2

Some MOD revoked my Neg, unfair but anybody with common sense would know that their local Asian store has these for less than half the price, so no deal for me….

Reinstate my Neg else its a shame you people can't do your job justly…

        • Actually, your neg vote got revoked by the community, it takes just 6 negs to revoke, you have 8 atm. Feel free to apologize to those mods:)

        • BS in ur dreams mate…, this is NOT a DEAL just a marked up price dropped slightly to still make profits, you'd be really stupid to +ve this and not realize the Asian shops around you have these dirt cheap…

        • Aflrunner, no bullshit, cold hard facts, your neg got revoked by other members. As for the bargain, I haven't voted positive, so I'm not sure what your going on about, but you should man up and admit your mistake

        • Is there something wrong with your medulla oblongata?

  • +1

aldis have singaporean made 5 packs for $1.09

    • +6

Yeah - but those Aldi ones taste like CRAP compared to the ones in the OP.

This is not about THE CHEAPEST noodles - it;s about a specific product, generally considered one of the better of a bad bunch.

    • +2

no other brand can match the taste of original mie goreng from indomie, i have taste many brands, for me mie goreng from indomie has the best taste, i have visited singapore, malaysia, thailand, hong kong, china, most of them agree with me that mie goreng is the best

      • +1

Be careful - there's another brand out there called 'Ibumie' and they use the same font on the cardboard box as Idomie. My mum thought it was the same one and bought it.

    • The cheap & nasty Aldi noodles are my favourite. Only 22 cents a meal, now that's what you call eating like a King :)

  • +1

I've just come back from IGA in Rochedale South (Queensland), and I recall seeing Mi Goreng 10 pack for $3. Specifically, for anyone near that store, I saw it in between the lanes where the frozen stuff is. Sorry, I didn't realise it was a bargain (as I'm not a usual noodles shopper) so I didn't take a picture.

  • +3

    indomie indomie indomie indomie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WG2dLLIZK3Y

  • +1

pretty sad how trivial some people get over 15-40 cents a pack of noodles…..

  • +5

Being asian really helps knowing the Asian Grocers in the hood. $8 a box for 30 ftw

    • +3

But how do you go getting set for fireworks? I miss the days when even a white boy like me could wander into Sydney's Chinatown and walk outta there with a bagful of skyrockets.

  • awesome

  • +2

    Constipation for a week.

  • Please don't eat these guys - they may taste awesome but they are so bad and addictive. Look at the nutrition on the back. Alternatively you can make something pretty similar with plain wheat noodles (which have no fat), chilli sauce and sweet soy, which is cheaper and less unhealthy.

  • If you're having digestive problems with these noodles, try making it without the yellow oily sauce and use the chili and soy

    • +2

The yellow oily stuff is PALM OIL. From what I understand, nothing known to mankind has higher artery-clogging power!

Wow - there is a massive Wiki on these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indomie_Mi_goreng

Indomie Mi goreng is an instant noodles product line made under the Indomie brand by the Indofood company, the world's largest instant noodle manufacturer, located in Indonesia.

  • I have mine: 2 packs with 2 eggs drained… How do you eat yours?

    • +1

      Two packs + fried egg

      • 2 packs + fried egg + fried onion + tomatoes.

  • +1

By the way - to cook them, don't boil them. It's a waste of a pot, and it's slow! And you drain off a lot of the noodley goodness :-(

Boil the kettle. Get your bowl, break the noodles onto 4 (I do it even smaller, so I can scoff them faster, without splashes). Put ALL the other ingredients on the top, then pour on boiling water to JUST cover the top of the noodles. If you are anal, stir it a bit (doesn't really matter).

Cover the bowl with whatever you can find - I use plates, manila folders, or whatever - doesn't matter what, it's just to keep the steam in. After a few minutes, open & stir - bite a sample and see if soft enough yet. If not, re-cover and wait a little while.

By JUST covering them with water initially, you get the consisency of drained noodles. If you want a soup, then add more water. I guess you could add the flavour satchels after cooking the noodles, but I don't reckon it makes any difference to the overall flavour anyway.

Try it - it's heaps easier than using the instructions!

    • I actually don't like them when they're cooked this way… they don't seem to have that "cooked enough" characteristics about the noodles. I boil water in a saucepan (while its heating up, I mix all the flavours in a bowl) cook it for about 4 minutes, and add the noodles to the bowl. I've never bothered with a drainer so I just pour remaining water into the sink and scoop out what I can with the remainder of the noodles XD

I've never actually heard of anyone eating mi goreng with soup…

    • +2

Lol mi goreng means fried noodle, its supposed to be dry! The quickest way to cook will be, break it into 2-3 pieces and put it into bowl. Fill it up with water, probably around half the bowl then put it into microwave and run it for 3 minutes. Drain the water, mix all the ingredients and you are done!

    • It's a waste of a pot

Oh, so you use disposable pots??

  • Yes those asian noodles are much better than maggi and fantastic, but they often are very hot and spicy.

    • They are definitely not fantastic ;)

    • Have you tried the imported maggi from Malaysia? The grey imports taste better.

Taiwan authorities announced the recall of Indomie instant noodles on Friday after a forbidden preservative, methyl p–hydroxybenzoate…

search google on "indomie taiwan recall"

seriously folks, preservative, high salt content, additives, MSG, artificial flavours, etc .. you better off not to eat this junk..

    • +1

      But it's so yummy
