I’ve been using the coles branded one with the aloe vera. Just testing it before it had a very strong alcohol smell, but it wasn’t sticky.
Why do you think Dettol Instant Liquid Hand Sanitizer is good? It uses Denatured Alcohol.
Denatured alcohol adds various harmful and toxic chemicals, purely so the company can avoid paying extra tax on the alcohol due to it being consumable.
Ethyl alcohol/ethanol are the ones that you should be going for, as they are organic forms of alcohol, which is listed above.
the quantities are negligible, you would need to bathe in it to affect you.
Denatured alcohol is just ethanol with a denature agent to stop people drinking it such as methylated spirits, which in Australia has not actually contained toxic chemicals such as methanol for many years It used to be around 10% methanol, 90% ethanol. For example, diggers metho is 95% ethanol (which is just the more accurate word for alcohol) and 5% water. There is a minute amount of bittering agent in It which is what gives the smell and taste to put people off drinking it. They did this to reduce legal liability. its not just about taxes since industry use a huge amount of ethanol, and it would be easy for workers take a cut if it didn’t have additives to deter. There is a huge thread on whirlpool going into this in detail.
Basically methylated spirits in Australia can be used to make hand sanitiser and prior to mixing it is around 95% ethanol. If you use approx 84% metho you will get 80% product. just want to check the fact sheet the product being used to ensure you know the composition.
when you read post online with people saying using methylated spirits is dangerous it is usually either someone overseas where they may still use toxic additives, or someone who wasn’t aware they updated formulas.
@Wombatstew: The denaturant in metho soaks into your skin, and will leave a foul taste for days if you lick your fingers.
I use metho to clean flux off PCBs, occasionally you get a pinhole in the gloves, and you only discover it too late. Foul-tasting fingers for days.

"Alcohol" is a class of chemicals, including ethanol (ethyl alcohol), methanol, propanol, butanol and others.
Ethanol is the stuff that gets you drunk, all the other alcohols are poisonous. Drinking even a small amount of alcohol that isn't ethanol will result in a trip to the emergency department or death.
Stories of people making this mistake appear in the news every couple of months, but most such poisonings go unreported.
This hand sanitizer must contain some of the "other" alcohols.
