Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile $150 Recharge (60GB Data, 186-Day Expiry, Not SIM Starter Kit) for $100 @ Coles

1000

Great for those already on Telstra Pre-Paid. $150 credit for $100 with 186 day expiry and 60GB included. For those not already with Telstra, you can sign up because the deal requires a BONUS $2 Telstra SIM to be purchased in the same transaction (so I do not think you will be charged for the SIM and it can be kept as a spare if you are already on Telstra).

This is my first post, and I don't care if it gets negative comments. ;)

EDIT: 23/04/2020 - Remember to grab the $2 Telstra SIM Kit first, as this deal requires that this be scanned in the same transaction. I used the self-service checkout, scanned the $2 Telstra SIM Kit, then choose the Telstra $150 Recharge from the on-screen options on the checkout display, and paid with my credit card. Your Coles receipt will show two things: 1) the "activitation" of the Telstra SIM (as it is considered to be a "gift card" on the Coles system - you will still need to actually activate the SIM via Telstra's website, a Telstra call centre or in a Telstra store), and 2) the actual $150 Telstra Recharge voucher. The expiry date appears to be 12/12/2021 - more than eighteen months away! See attached updated photo for what the receipt should look like (I have removed any personally identifying information!). :)

You port your Vodafone number to Telstra via Telstra, not Vodafone.

      • Yes, Gorodemon is trying to port at Telstra - but is being directed to Live Chat (which is obv down) when trying to port online. Nothing to do with Vodafone.

      • +1

I have ported my number around 5 million times in the last 4 years so I'm quite familiar with the process. Thanks for reminding me though :)

        • I apologise for not understanding your post.

How in the world do you port your number 3,424.6575342466 times a day? Must be a record.

Can I transfer from the post-paid Telstra plan to the pre-paid with this offer?

    • I did, just ask Telstra to switch you then use this as your first top-up.

  • Anybody know what a $150 recharge offers with the Telstra Prepaid Data pass Mobile Broadband offer.

    $140 gives 16GB/2 years.

    • Anybody know what a $150 recharge >offers with the Telstra Prepaid Data >pass Mobile Broadband offer.

You get exactly that recharge $140 gives 16GB/2 years -plus an extra $10 in recharge credit.
      [Total 150]

(When i tried it ages ago)

      • Great!

        Thanks for sharing your experience.

Bit the bullet and bought a recharge so I don't have to worry about recharging for 2 years.

So Jordan- still works as expected 😎

  • Currently on a boost 12 month plan, looking to port back to Telstra as I live so remote that there are a few places with no coverage on boost. Anyone know what the process is like these days? I'm concerned as the nearest Telstra shop would be probably 4 or more hours away (come to think of it, so is the nearest Coles…) and I don't want to be told I need to come in for any reason.

  • Does anyone know if this can be used with the old Freedom Plus plan?
In the recharge options under my account it only has recharge values up to $50.

    • Recharge value does not change the pre-paid plan.

  • Transferring from Boost to Telstra

Just tried to activate online, message comes up - ring 132200
Ring 132200, artificial dumbness lady (not artificial intelligence) goes round and round, finally hangs up on me.
Try Live Chat, doesnt wanna help either due to COVID19

Does anyone know how to get the activations team directly or how to get it done in an easier way, other than going to a T shop ?

    • If you go to a Telstra shop they will just put you onto the phone to the same Filipino call centre.
Your best bet will be to port out to Optus or Voda, then port back in.

      • Optus, Voda, Lebara all need a min $10 recharge before I can port in.
Seems to be a waste of savings accumulated by purchasing this vocher :(

Or port out to either Kogan Mobile or Catch Connect for 30 days (for less than $5 at the moment), both with 40GB, and stream to your heart's content while we are still in Stage 3 restrictions for the next month, then in 30 days port into Telstra from there. :)

          • @new2onlineshopping: Depending how far you were on the activation process this could cause you to loose all your credit or even loose your number if you were porting? I would keep trying to get through on the phone first. I ended up having to go through the tio to get on touch with Telstra recently to get rid of the mini-mi spam subscription but I had tried everything else multiple times and they did respond quickly this way. If you just activated the $2 Sim not the recharge and didn't start the porting number process above advice should be fine.

Just in case there are people out there, that are as dim as we are, there is no recharge card; you go to the front desk and they print out a receipt with all the recharge details. The starter kit, with the SIM, also appears to be $100 at the moment

    • I went to counter and I got told no voucher. It's all on sim……

      • I, assume, on SIM would be the starter kit, rather than the recharge. With the recharge you just apply the receipt code to your existing Account. Happy for someone to clarify for me.

        • Telstra shop didn't say any of this.

  • Just bought at Coles…….no recharge voucher.credit is on sim.
Coles said it's for new customers.
Went to Telstra shop and they said same thing.
So this special isn't for existing customers?

    • I got a recharge voucher printed on spot, as you usually get when you recharge a pre-paid mobile

      • They said it is all in the starter kit. Pointed it all out to them but they would not print a voucher.

    • Just as the guy at the front desk for a recharge receipt not a starter kit. They jut give you a receipt with the details and, presumably, that is the code you use for the recharge.

      • I showed them the catalogue and they gave the kit in the catalogue picture. They scanned it and said no voucher. They said recharge is on the kit. I think they are confused. What was worse is Telstra store next to Coles said to go back to Coles for a refund as it's for new customers. I guess they didn't know either. I got a refund so will try another coles

        • Go to the front desk and ask for the recharge. The catalogue picture is confusing because it shows a card. It was only when my man actually went to the front counter, and asked for a recharge (like in the catalogue) that he was given the skinny on how to do this. You might have an issue with the refund; we were told if we bought the starter kit we couldn’t get a refund. Best of luck.

    • Sounds like you got duped into buying the $150 SIM Starter Kit.

See my updated original post, and the new picture in the description. You should grab a $2 Telstra SIM Kit that looks like this:

      https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/wc-prod-pim/JPEG_100…

Scan this and add the $150 Telstra Pre-Paid mobile Recharge voucher, and it will automatically deduct the cost of this $2 SIM Kit, as well as reduce the cost of the recharge to only $100. The Recharge voucher can be used for existing customers - you will just now have a spare Telstra SIM…

I bought 5 of them, all vouchers, no SIM.
Bear in mind that some people who work at Coles as dumb AF. Most of the time they know what is going on but I get the occasional worker (usually a young girl) who has no idea. Try asking someone else…

Price beat at Officeworks Brisbane City with no dramas, came to $95.10 (was put through as competitor price $98 for the $150 voucher and full price for the $2 sim).

  • Code is generated on the fly and is on the receipt printed from the assisted checkout or the front desk terminal. Apparently, the expiry date for the voucher generated today is 12/12/2021.

  • I see people are saying the voucher is valid until December 2021, might be a dumb question but how can you tell. Having got one today I'd be up for getting another to use in 6 months time.

  • I am an existing Telstra prepaid customer and stupidly have bought the $150 starter kit for $100 and have opened it but not activated it. Are there any workarounds so that I can use the kit to prepaid my existing Telstra service?
It says on the box I can return within 30 days if not activated but I doubt I can return it once opened.
Do I have to port my number to another provider and then port back to Telstra with the new sim activation?
    Any other suggestions?

    • Sell it on e-Bay? Maybe even make a small profit? ;)

Otherwise, yes, porting out and then back in may be the way to go - see my response to 51ngh the comments above about current deals for less than $5 for 30 days, with 40GB.

      • Thanks. I ended up paying $2 for an Amaysim sim, $10 to activate that and will keep that until Monday when I’ll (hopefully) port back to Telstra. My Telstra credit was due to expire today anyway so not a huge loss just to have it sorted and over and done with.

        • +1

If you were in Melbourne, I would have offered to meet up and swap my $150 recharge voucher + $2 SIM kit for your $150 SIM starter kit; it makes no difference to me as I need to set up a new Telstra number anyway as my current plan on another network expires soon. But from the receipt which you have shared, I see that you are from a galaxy far, far away… ;)

Glad you got it sorted and over and done with. :)

  • Does anyone have a receipt for the Sim starter kit that they'd be happy to share? Or a pic of the ticket/shelf? Want to try to price match this too

    • I have a receipt but not sure how to upload a pic in comments ?

      • You can add links to your comments as per the "Formatting Help" tab - in short, type whatever text you want to appear for the link in square brackets [] followed directly by the actual link to the picture in parenthesis (), with no space between the [] and ().

Hope that helps, and hope I got it right as I am still new to this site…

  • This is a test link

Hoping this works! I typed "This is a test link" in [] brackets, directly followed by https://www.ozbargain.com.au/themes/ozbargain/logo.png in ().

    • It works! Clicking on "This is a test link" will open up the image/picture. So will typing directly on the link for the picture, which does not appear to need formatting. Interesting.

      • Thanks! It worked!

  • I used the self checkout and it required the store assistant to enter the expiry date of the recharge. Is this right? I cancelled the transaction.

  • +1

Great post OP. Confirming no SIM purchase is necessary.

Just add the Telstra $150 prepaid recharge to your order at self checkout. It comes up as $100: see pic.

Purchased today (26 April) with expiry date of 12/12/2021.

  • Thanks so much OP! My plan is expiring soon so this is perfect timing. :)
Can confirm that we can get the recharge voucher without $2 SIM and can get that at self checkout as well. Just bought 2 so don’t need to worry for another year, thanks!

  • Thanks for the heads up, went to Officeworks to price match. They didn't take into account the $2 Sim so it came to $95 for the recharge (just a receipt only) but the expiry date is till April 2022 - even better than December 2021 from Coles.

  • I purchased five of these yesterday at the self serve checkout. I did one at first to confirm the expiry date of Dec 2021, and then purchased a further four in a separate transaction. Just note that it seems you could only add a maximum of three before a store assistant was required to do their ‘magic’ and allow the fourth one to be added. No issues though and no questions asked.

I did not need to add the $2 SIM (and also completely forgot about it until coming back here this morning).

  • Yes can confirm that you can purchase this at self checkout, without a $2SIM. Just select Telstra - Recharge - $150 and it automatically reduces to $100. Just purchased it and expiry is 12/12/2021

  • I asked my friend to buy the recharge for me but he brought the starter kit. I am an existing Telstra customer , today my last month recharge got expired so I tried to recharge but did not find the voucher details on the starter kit :|
I went through the comments & understood that the voucher number will be printed on the Coles receipt which obviously I don't have in the receipt.

I don't want to loose my existing number. Any suggestions on what I can do next ? Port out of Telstra and port in back ?

    • +1

That is correct. To use that starter kit your friend bought and still keep your existing Telstra number, you will have to port out to another telco and then port back into Telstra…

If you are lucky, you can sell the starter kit (possibly even make a profit?), or swap with someone who has bought the recharge voucher. :)
