  • OZB people, is this the cheapest fare to europe??

"At these prices, Europe has never been more affordable!"
I got my flights for $1400 in 2009, seen them as low as $1200 to London since.
So actually Europe has been more affordable even in my limited recent memory.

    • You cant compare 2009 prices with 2011! - 2009 was post GFC so airline prices were at an all time low. Nowadays fares start from about $1600+ for full service airlines. You probably wont get Emirates/Singapore for less then $1900 nowadays. Cathy are not a bad airline.

      • FerretallicA is still correct though; "Europe HAS been more affordable" than the prices offered now.

I think these prices are reasonably standard. For the same amount you can fly through KL/SIN, and you don't have to travel as long. Stopovers through HK can be lengthy as well.

The headline rate is for Perth to Moscow in the low season.

    • +2

Perth is not Australia, Moscow is not Europe!

Gotta say, when the next step up is $220 dearer - $1894 - it's a big difference from the lead-in rate advertised.

Fares are normally substantially cheaper out of Perth, as you'd expect, so this isn't really much of a bargain. Fares from other cities are around $1900, then $2200, then $2350 depending on season which is pretty similar to the other specials from first tier airlines.

    didnt think moscow is europe

    • Yeah, damn them Russian Africans…

  • Bought $600 one way to London August 2012 with air asia with sale two months ago and whilst you cant compare the two airlines, that is a damn big difference!

    • you dont have to neg this deal! - you are not comparing apples with apples. Its ok for a full service airline.

      • I do agree with you that I am not compaing apples with apples, however the $600 (which incl taxes) includes luggage, in flight entertainment and meal, so the thought of spending an extra $600+ for a few minor added features seems a bit much

  • I believe I paid just under 1300$ Mel to Madrid thru Korean Air in Feb or March this year.

  • Best flight 2 weeks ago has Europe for $1300 east coast I think it was Swiss air or south china

  • iv had friends fly recently with Cathay - The Service was Appalling… Food was bland, Had to ask for drinks and the service was abysmal.

They will never fly cathay again on thos extremely long haul flights again… I flew with Singapore and was the best service iv had in a long time - and i fly alot.

They currently have a specia to Europe to London for $2000 and other "Uro" cities from ~$1800

  • Malaysia Air had tickets a month or 2 ago from SYD > PAR or LON for $1250 return.
Singapore also recently had sales very recently for around the same price as Cathay, albeit service is a WHOLE lot better with Singapore.
