Poll: Good Laundry Detergent?

I've bought a giant tub of FAB and I can't stress enough how much I dislike it and it's performance, not too moved by it.

Any idea what would make a good detergent?
Powder or Gel doesn't matter, tho I find myself being way more conservative with powder 😎🤘

Cheers!

  • Aldi's Trimat Sensitive powder

  • What’s the trick to make tshirts last longer? Is it the washing cycle or detergent?
I use either cotton-eco or easy-care cycle for washing them. After couple of months the material shows signs of wear. Can’t figure out what i’m doing wrong 😖.

More likely your machine than detergent.

Don't use the cotton setting, use the wool setting on your machine as it is usually the most gentle.

    • +1

Are you hanging them inside? Dryer and hanging outside can both be damaging.

      • Thanks guys. Hmm there is wool setting but I limit that for well, wool 😅. I’ll see though.

Dryer is mostly during winter or if it’s heavy raining, else they’re drying under the alfresco space.

        Cheers.

    • Wash and dry them inside out.

I get either the Vietnamese or Turkish imported Omo 9-10kg under $30 from Lebanese, arab / Asian grocers

Use to be a fan of Biozet until they moved production from Japan to Taiwan. Didn't seem as good.

I'm happy to pay for the best detergent which isn't much in the overall scheme of things.

I then tried Omo Ultimate and Ald (best) Trimat as they rated highly on the Choice test.

I now use Omo Ultimate exclusively. You get more washes per kg and as it's regularly on sale, the cost per wash is similar to Aldi.

Lastly, I also add some oxygen bleach aka napisan to the wash.

The active ingredient of napisan or equivalent/generic whitener is sodium percarbonate.

Just buy the cheapest product that contains the highest % of sodium percarbonate, whether that be Aldi, Woolworths, Coles home brand one.

I was pretty pissed off at Vanish/Napisan. Purchased one for Whites and another one for colours. I then read the ingredients and they are exactly the same! lol. Just different colour packaging.

Thing of it as Panadol, Panadol for [insert specific body part] or Panamax. They are all just the same paracetamol in different packaging/advertising budget.

I use Almat ( Aldi more premium brand ) clothes always smell nice and get cleaned well

    • +1

Same. I'm surprised at all the trimat love in this thread tbh. It's a decent bit more expensive than almat, and after trying both, I haven't able to notice a difference.

  • Does anyone know how does this compare with Omo Active Clean and Omo Ultimate? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/533287

    • NO idea but I bought the Tridmat and picked up 2 of the professional liquid today aswell just for the kicks of it

      • Cool.. did you buy Omo Professional from The Good Guys?

        • +1

          I have!
They have LOADS of it displaying it everywhere.
I was trying to be calculated with my choices and see if its really worth it, its like nobody ever heard of the Professional tbh and the price is typically higher for it - so I was like "sure , 140 washes for 50$ aint THAT bad"
          so…yeah.

  • Aldi Trimat Advanced in the wash section, coupled with Disan soaker in the pre-wash section. "Trust purple, forget stains, and save $$$".

  • Either OMO ultimate or Radiant , whichever is on half-price special at my local.

  • I use the Bosisto one (it's for sensitive skin, but is good regardless). Aldi Trimat is good too.

Another vote for OMO. Should have turned this into a poll

    • +1

      You got it, toots.

      • Legend!

      • Where's the Biozet option? Cold power too.

        • A bit too late to add more :(

  • I have always used OMO but have tried the Aldi product. I am using it now as I could not get OMO. It is ok but OMO is a cut above. I tend to buy OMO when on special and have to say it does clean best.

  • What about Radiant?

I use their all black wash

  • Try Ecostore for amazing scent and works great.
Their geranium and orange is bliss.

I would put this on par with OMO.

OMO cleans amazingly, but if you want to change up the scent, try that the ecostore ones.

Once a month, we add a bit of napisan into the wash. Keeps everything fresh.

OMO Sensitive or alternatively, Cold Power Sensitive. I've recently been buying the huge bottles in Big W when they go on sale for $20. Very convenient tap dispenser and when empty you can also refill with other things like wool wash.

    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/cold-power-sensitive-pure-cl…

A big no to OMO Ultimate and Radiant, these have way too much fragrance. I prefer my clean clothes to smell like nothing.

    • That's a brilliant idea! I want a tap aswell!!

      • +1

Yes, it is much less messy than bottles. No drips or leaks.

        • Damn, now I want fancy glass dispensers :(

Why would u make me waste money???

          Darn you cookie-monster

a lateral sideways topic: whats the consensus on HOW MUCH to use?

i have a 7.5kg front loader and use biozet the powder.

i've been told to use something like half scoops? even when near full? i was roughly every 2 weeks. one time i washed i put a full scoop and clothes came out (after hang dry) stiff and scratchy.

should clothes come out of the washing machine smelling like laundry? i have a roommate and whenever he does a washing and hang dry, it smells super strong of laundry powder/liquid.

i also put in like a cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle. does this help?

    • Professional Washers please advise :( , would love to know.

Do you even use a softner tho?

      • no i dont use a softner as i heard they stick to the fibre and makes the towels not absorbing.

        • Well that's one reason?
Don't use it on towels, I like my towels crunchy and most towels recommend NOT using softner on them.

Regular clothes tho…eh, they really benefit from a softner.

    • I do use a half scoop (of the cup that comes with Biozet) for full loads and quarter scoop for half loads. This is in a 7-8kg front loader using powder and mostly because I am cheap. Clothes seem to come out clean. They also seem clean with just water tbh. A top loader might work better with a full scoop.

    COLD POWER!

    • Tried a bunch including Omo and the Aldi homebrands based on Choice reviews. Settled on Cold Power as it doesn't leave a noticeable odour on clothes post wash.

  • How old is your machine? I had a machine that was decades old and it was terrible. I eventually replaced it with a front loader and it didn't matter which detergent I used, the machine did a great job. That said liquid is better because it's already dissolved. I throw a whack of vinegar in the rinse cycle as well.

    • mines pretty new like maybe 6 months old.

  • Aldi is getting some good feedback here. Might try them next.
Might be a while though, just opened a box of Cold Power and that's gonna last a while …

Never really thought about good vs bad laundry powders. I just assumed shirt sweat stains were unavoidable part of the wear and tear so to speak.

  • Aldi cheap powdered stuff in the box. Price can't be beat. Works well for me.

Other than that I buy bulk euca branded powder in bulk online.

  • I've started using Earth Choice Laundry liquid and so far it has been good.
