Are they still hackable by our Chinese friends?

    • It's very likely, maybe don't use this one for facing your bed.

    • +3

Well regardless i think this whole covid thing has higlighted importance of supporting local businesses and manufacturing.

There are problems than just hacking :(

Do we manufacture anything these days?

        • +3

Even if we are not, we must start. late is better than never. I think we all got our lesson!
Support local, it takes time but finally we get there.

      • Aren't these shops and distributors local businesses too??

Buying something from China and sell it to Australians is not a true business to me. I call it a true business when an Australian company employs Australians to >BUILD< this device and sell it. I don't think we are going anywhere by buying from China and selling to Australians.

  • is this a really good price? i have the old xiaofang square shape, worth to upgrade?

edit: not interested anymore i just remember this old thread
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/526571

newer xiaomi cams are not compatible with synology

None of my Xiaomi (Chinese versions) work anymore, not the Fang nor the Yi1080p. I don't think I'll by their cameras again (probably my fault for buying the Chinese versions, but everyone else on this site was doing it).

      • ah really? i hacked my old fang long ago and able to get it work with syno but then i lost interest and took it down.
        i may try tomorrow

      • I have 5 xiaofang cameras. All still working. You need to make sure that you're connected to the mainland Chinese server though. Having said that, I do run mine with fanghacks to bypass their servers anyhow

        • I plan to do the firmware hacks and fix the time stamp issues one day with my ones.

          • @Lizard Spock: yeah i just put mine back (xiaofang, already hacked), and it is still working, connected on syno survel app (both desktop and android app) and i can see the live view

        • im confused you said first none work anymore then you said all still working?

          • @CyberMurning: Lizard Spock's cameras are not working, silo's ones are working

            • +1

@Lizard Spock: yes sorry i thought same person replied. you need to hack it then it will works but i got crappy FPS just around 10-20 the live stream is so laggy

              • @CyberMurning: Interesting, I wonder why the frame rate is affected?

                • +1

@Lizard Spock: I modified the resolution to 1280x720 and getting 24,25 FPS. cant just select options from/on synology app, i need to play around with the hacking script etc
the lag is better now like 0.5 seconds or less.

  • Decent cameras. Got 4 at home, 3 at work.

Not sure i trust it anywhere like bedrooms after the debacle with google assistant (which they never fixed up).

  • Has anyone able to set it up or other xiaomi cameras with any NAS server, like freenas or qnap or synology?

  • Can this be mounted external with any custom mount in the market?

  • +1

Buyer beware. I have this camera and a Mijia which is mostly in sleep mode since I've been home. One day got a notification of movement detected, and went through all my playbacks to see when it would come online and heaps were random times. One time it moved from facing the wall to the common area. After I changed the email to a brand new email, password and set a pin its been acting normally so just be mindful to set up a totally new account if you want to get Xiaomi cameras.

    • Winnie the Pooh was just checking on you!
