I've had my eye on a few budget phones as well as the more premium models. So many choices out there these days. Anyone have any experience with this one? Both this and the S10 lite offer snapdragon SoCs unlike the flagships

The Samsung Galaxy A90 5G gives you the power to download music, stream movies and game on with minimal lag to keep you moving with the speed of life.

  • I bought dad an a50 and it's pretty solid while I have a note 10 plus and looking at the specs of this it looks great. only thing is he hates the optical under screen fingerprint and refuses to use it as he says it's doesn't work which is what the a90 has. my note 10 has the ultrasonic which works 99% of the time. other than that, I think the specs of this may trump my note 10.

    • Try recording the same finger a few different times. I have both my thumbs recorded twice, each slightly different spots. Increases the odds the fingerprint scanner finding a match. Can take a few attempts for the second one to record as it might abort if it isn't different enough.

      • did that, it just doesn t work as well as the ultrasound one in my note 10. my father is almost 70 so stuck in his ways of wishing he still had the fingerprint sensor on the back. other than that no real complaints.

  • I'm assuming this is single SIM?

    • yes

      • Do you know if there is a dual sim version of this phone? I can't tell whether the micro sd slot can somehow be used for a sim card or if I'm just being silly…

        • I believe there is one yes. According to gsmarena anyway

  • The Galaxy S10 is available for only $100 more, probably the better purchase if your budget extends to it.

    • link?

Min cost $699, cancel immediately. There's a post here on OzB discussing it.

        • Cancelling is a huge pain, now a says because of covid 19. Just a new number and port that out to a cheap prepaid sim to another company. Quickest to get cancellation sorted.

          • @dealdoodler: If you port out, will you still have to pay the first month? T&C's say you do….

            • @billy_bob: I'll let you in on this, when you sign up find out whats your billing cycle date is. It is usually few days after you start the plan, just cancel it before that date. You only pay for phone. Source: i work for vf.

There is a new clause where if you cancel, you must give the device back. So no deal

          • @hmac: Ref/Link?
T&C's still say "If you cancel your plan, the remaining repayments will be charged out at the Reduced Monthly Device Price rate times months remaining as a lump sum on your final bill. Total min cost is the Reduced Monthly Device Price over your chosen MPP term plus one of your month plan fees."

          • @hmac: Incorrect. That is only if you cancel under Network satisfaction Guarantee. Look it up. Under NSG too you have the option to keep device.

    • Second this^, unless you desperately need 5G.

Or you value sd855 over the crappy exynis

    • Wouldn't it be $739 with the plan as well?

Be careful when Kogan says Australian Model

They may simply mean that it is the same model (version) that is used in Australia, but it is unlikely to be Australian stock.

I bought a Samsung phone from them recently using credits from the Kogan card, and it was a Vodafone New Zealand phone. Yes, same model used in Australia and thus compatible with the same bands, but no Samsung AU warranty and NZ Carrier firmware.

    • Ahh interesting point.

I will remove that from the title in case. Thanks

I've had plenty of Kogan warranty interactions which have ended well. But I think default is only 1 year.

      • Yes, and you are restricted to getting Kogan to sort it out, instead of any authorised Samsung repairer.

    • That sucks but at least having Snapdragon makes up for it somewhat.

      • The NZ version is not Snapdragon. It's still the same model, just not AU stock, so Samsung AU won't register the warranty.

      • Just get an Australian version is not any more expensive or even cheaper at 560 in the past

Cheaper on eBay and should also get better support if something goes wrong
    Edit: Nvm, price had increased

  • Did u miss previous LG V50 thinq 5G dual screen $599?

    • Damn I was gonna. Yu it, but waited and disappeared

    • I've not really looked into many android flavours other than google, Samsung and oneplus

I brought an S9 from Kogan it died within a year. I have never gone through the amount of hassle with any company as with these guys. I would never, ever, buy from Kogan their claim of warranty is worthless.

    • You should try optus
