    why not Vodafone tv box?

i bought that one a few weeks ago based on comments here. I like it a lot, specially because you can connect and antenna and watch normal tv channels (we have an old incompatible tv hehe). I definitely recommend it. I am waiting to buy a CHEAP bluetooth controller to test how games run, such as a PSP emulator or old console games, but so far i´m very happy with it, it works smoothly and without a hitch.

      • Agree, I've connected voda tv to my old samsung tv and use the anynet tv functionality to control it using my tv remote.

I don't need 4K, thus voda tv works for me.

FYI I run plex client on VTV and not connecting the tv to it.

          Vodafone TV is 4k

@scottySK: Oh, just noticed that, even better! One day when I have 4K prolls get the benefit out of it.

    • I have both, and recently got the mi box out again to test when I thought the VTV update was going to ruin it.

VTV wins easily just on physical features, the ethernet connection and tv tuner are both great, and the VTV remote is way better.

I ended up doing the update and really like the new software too. Kodi still works perfectly getting content from an nfs server.

    • The Bluetooth audio signal on my VTV is delayed. Can that be fixed?

It is normal on all other similar devices like Beelink etc.

    Delivery kills it for me

  • can it be upgraded to Android 9?

    • +1

yes, updated mine to 9 in Jan. several days ago they released another update

    • Same company, n they are both a lottery you may get your purchase quick or be stuffed around for weeks

  • Vodafone TV box is the GOAT.

    • What makes it better than the Xiaomi?

      • +6

Vodafone TV has everything that Mi box has + a full TV tuner for $72 delivered.

        • Vodafone TV doesn’t have Prime Video, and the update to Android 9 removed the ability to plug in USB drives for anything other than extended storage.

Xiaomi Mi Box 3 used to be a a great box until they broke it with updates, I'd never buy a Xiaomi product again. Bought an NVIDIA shield and very happy.

    • They fixed it last year. Runs like a dream now. Hope they have learnt their lesson though.

      • Digital 7.1 audio still drops out for me. .. So I can't use it. But the way that they ignored the issue for so long and even suggested that the fix was to buy the new version was a big red flag. Nvidia has had great reviews since day one. I'm glad that it's working for you.

I did the same so now have both the mi box and Shield. The Shield experience is worth the cost for me. The latest mi box updates for some reason made the box unresponsive half the time when switching back from another HDMI source. Only solution was to pull the power. A right pain. The Shield handles switching perfectly. Hopefully this S version has improved things. The problem with these Chinese boxes is that there always seems to be some niggling issue. Often they fix one thing and break another. From what I've read, I'd get the VTV if I wanted another cheap Android TV box. The mi box is a lottery of issues, IMHO.

Aaarrggg just as I'm trying to sell my Mibox s lol. Hope they out of stock fast lol.

I feel like that extra $15 cost kinda kills it.

  • can they run Apple TV plus?

    • Unlike amazon, google playstore doesn’t have a Apple TV plus app so if you can find an apk & side load it - it might work.

  • Apart from the Nvidia Tv shield, I'd say the Ugoos AM6 PLUS or Pro would be one of the best android tv boxes on the market, however alot more expensive than this but less than the nvidia shield tv pro

  • This worth it to use via vpn (netflix American)?

  • Will this or voda t.v. run foxtel go

    • Not sure about go, but either will run foxtel now if you sideload it.

      • Vodafone TV now has the Foxtel Now app available from the play store. There is no Kayo though unless you sideload it.

  • I can't find a single website with a user manual or proper specifications for this box. The official Xiaomi product website is absolute garbage. "Supports Dolby DTS" is meaningless when there's no description of HOW it supports that feature.

It looks like this Mi Box S has an audio socket which could be the one thing it does better than the Vodafone TV, but without a proper instruction manual who knows? Is it an S/PDIF port, a line-level socket, a headphone socket? Does the connector also support composite video like some other boxes? Is an A/V cable supplied in the box?

One thing I miss on my Vodafone TV is a dedicated S/PDIF port because HDMI surround sound is a pain when your TV doesn't support DTS passthrough (most TVs unfortunately). No idea if this Mi Box S has one.

  • some feedback - ordered mine on the 24/4, arrived in melbourne on my doorstep today 6/5 - so two weeks delivery. quite fair considering.
