So essentially you're losing money. How fun.

    • +1

Woolies Group staff can pocket a little from it due to extra 5% off. A very targeted deal now.

      • It is 10% off now.

        • Pretty sure that 10% off applies to groceries only.

  • +4

You might need to do a better job of explaining the deal here. It looks like your out of pocket $101.95 for something worth $100…

    • +2

It's a deal because if you don't buy this card, you "gain" $1.95

  • +10

This deal makes no financial sense.

  • +5

    I think I’ll save my $1.95 thanks.

  • Used to be worth it when they allowed buying gift cards with discounted wish/ww gift cards.

  • +1

if it was 2000 points, would have made sense but with 1000 not a deal in anyways

  • +1

Fine print says offer available on $50 and $100 ETFPOS cards. You could probably squeeze a small profit from it, if it's 1000 points on the $50 card too and you combine it with the double amex platinum points offer.

  • pay by amex platimum card - it is 4.5% cash return at the moment.
effectively you pay 97.3 for $100

    • +3

Can you not pay directly to woolworths with that card? effectively it will be 95.5 for 100

      • you're right, use your AMEX would be cheaper than buying a prepaid GC, but you may be able to use the prepaid card in places that don't accept AMEX

      • a lot of places do not accept amex or big surcharge.

      • do you mean pay other places with amex directly?

      • -1

I'm sure you can find gift cards for those places that costs you no more than face value

        • not only gift card, you use to pay government charges also

  • there is normally no surcharge to pay by efpos card.
At the same time you earn amex points by spending at woolies.

would be more enticing if they allowed you to purchase it with e cards and it was 2000 bonus points then i could use it at post office to pay the ato.

    • +1

Sometimes Coles has 2000 points for their $100 or $50 Mastercard ($5 charge) and e GC's can be used.

    • I don’t think you can pay ATO with these cards. I tried to do it at AUS post and they refused because it was a prepaid card.

      • +2

I thought ATO only accepted iTunes gift cards…

      • it worked last time as i paid via eftpos with westfield cards

      • I have used these at 2 different Post Offices to pay my electricity bills. In one of them initially the person said they did not think it could be done but the person next to them showed them. But I think in some cases the merchant may not allow it or not allow split payments.

Theres the 3x Woolworths Rewards Points on Every Shop deal running https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/533706 so it should be 3,000 points per $100 card.

    • nope

      • -1

        bugger, did you try?

        • +1

I didn't specifically set out to try it, but I did buy some cards and had the 3 x offer already saved. I knew it wouldn't work. That's not how bonus points are awarded for gift cards. I did get the 3 x points for regular grocery items, but not for the gift card points. But in any case I can confirm that it wont/didn't work.

          • @DrRalph: I'd contact them about it because the triple points deal states:

"Activate now and earn 3x points on ANY purchase at Woolworths. This offer is available until Sunday, 10th May."

The gift cards are purchased at Woolworths, and triple points apply to any Woolworths purchase.

            • +2

@LowRange: I'd encourage you to read ALL of the terms. I have zero intention of wasting my time on this. You obviously have no experience with gift card purchases.

"No points will be earned on withdrawal of cash, delivery charges, Delivery Saver and Delivery Unlimited items, internet cafes, purchases of smoking/tobacco products and accessories, liquor purchased in-store at Woolworths or at woolworths.com.au, Gift Cards (including iTunes), mobile recharge, Woolworths Mobile, travel cards and tickets, Carpet Care, Donations, lottery products and Pre-order Kiosks."

              • -1

@DrRalph: Yes you are right, i dont often buy gift cards and only even just started scanning the wifes rewards cards.

Thanks for not wasting your time on this and schooling me, and i wont assume "earn 3x points on ANY purchase at Woolworths." means ANY purchase ever again. :)

                • +1

                  @LowRange: Gift cards earn 0 points per $1. 3 x 0 points = 0. That’s why they’re able to say 3 x on any purchases without anything in T&C.
