[QLD] Hitachi 70UHDSM8 70" LED 4K UHD TV $979.99 @ Costco North Lakes (Membership Required)

120

Looks like a good deal to me.
I bought a Henesee 70" sell out at JB for $950 approx 12 months ago
Aldi Has its Braun 70" Shite for $999 while back

So a current in house model branded has to be pretty good.
I have 2 on my window of my Pizza cafe for internal advertising, Watching footy/ Sport and gaming for the kids. Show stopper for the customers. see it clearly 100 metres away.

Hitachi used to a reputable brand. Is the quality still good? Like compared to pana, LG etc?

    • Hitachi don't make TV's anymore. Pretty sure this is just a licensing deal with some company called Vestel.

Hitachi were at the forefront of plasma TVs but have not made TVs for a long time.

Stick to a brand that is upfront.

  • ARC isn’t mentioned in the manual or labelled on any of the HDMI ports but in any case it’s HDMI port 1 and works fine.

  • Ceres Pizza Cafe at Strathpine
    I have 2 70" TV outside and 2 x 65" internal scrolling deals
Kids put on fortnite and other games at times (x box one and PS4 connected)
Run sport, YouTube and a few other things from time to time.
Have chrome cast on it so easy scroll.

Picked up this Tv today and have the following comments.
    1. TV speakers are unusable, however this can be mostly fixed by connecting external speakers, however due to the audio processing, even my external speaker which I've tested with other TV's come out a little distorted.
    2. 24p content stuttering is abismal. So any movies, and a lot of Netflix / YouTube content will appear extremely stuttery. The screen is locked to 60hz and doesn't dynamically changed.
    3. There seems to be sporatic audio sync issues. This is generally fixed by restarting the TV and attached device however is very annoying.
    4. Significant back light bleeding through left and right side.
    5. Very dull blacks. Entire screen emits a lot of light even when only showing black screen. In dark scenes all the darks seem to just muddle together and it's very hard to make out a picture.
    6. Very poor app support. Only Netflix and YouTube. No app store for additional apps. Can be fixed with Chromecast or similar though.
    7. Poor reflections, room lights show on screen very clearly.
    8. Doesn't get bright, very unusable in brightly lit room
    9. Colours are okay, can be made slightly better with a bit of tweaking, however there is very little settings to play around with.
    10. Motion response is okay.
    11. Remote and responsiveness. Remote is basic but does this trick. The layout is a little strange, but overall the TV is fairly quick to load apps and respond to commands.
I haven't tested the TV for games yet or input lag. I'm sure this Tv is suitable for signage, but for a home use TV, it didnt make the cut and will be returned tomorrow. I hope this helps others as there really isn't any reviews out there for this Tv.

    • Thank you for the review.
Am looking for a home TV & was going to buy this.
      I’ll keep looking.
