Air Asia "Free Seat" Sale (ie. Only Pay Tax)

170

So I know there's the "World on sale" thread going on, and the general consensus is that it's no real bargain.

Well, I thought I'd let you know (if you didn't already) that the other "sale" is only for AirAsiaX routes, which considering the high cost of running (as most of them uses non-lcc specific airports) and distance, is no surprise there wasn't much bargain.

This sale however, which can only been seen from the Malaysian (or other SEA region) section, is the real bargain here. Basically it's a "free seat + pay tax only" sale (or otherwise extremely cheap seat + tax), for AK/FD routes. Way too many to list, so here are a few examples.

Eg.
Kuala Lumpur - Langkawi 16MYR all inclusive (found on 21SEP2012)
Kuala Lumpur - Jakarta 55MYR all inclusive (found on 20AUG2012)

For me, I won't be utilising this sale, as I no longer have the luxury of booking holidays a year out in advance. However I hope the rest of the OzB community can score a few bargain flights around Asia in 2012!

PS. Good luck with the buggy website, mobile or not. LOL

    • It's not really that great of a price though. You could fly a full service airline for about $1500… Depends on the stop over time and whether you prefer the extra comfort or extra cash. I think that is a pretty standard fare with Air Asia?

  • Thats about $500-1K cheaper than any other airline. lol

  • Is it worth it? any hidden fees by Air Asia?

    • Food and drinks costs

      • but not much. MOST of the food is about $3.50. Drinks are around the $1.50 mark. Although the rolls from Australia cost more because they come from Australia so you're looking at about $6 for those.

  • I was conned a bit the Australian to kl price was including tax work out to be 500 ish I did the conversion for the kl to Paris leg on XE (because it was in Malasian Ringets) work out to be 400 aussie dollars return with 30kg luggage. Sweet a tix to Paris return for under a grand. So I booked the GC to KL leg no dramas. But when I booked the kl to paris leg I was hit with an extra $250 in charges (taxes), I had ready booked and paid for the KL leg so….it's not a brilliant price but I am still happy with it. I am hoping the canon 5d mkIII is out then and I can pick it up duty-free in KL.

      hint:
there're no scam/con as oversea online website doesn't includes airport tax as required here by Australia law.
so read carefully, it did says "Price exclude Taxes" somewhere on the page! :)

you'll however see "Price includes Taxes" for AirAsia Australian website!

  • Curiosity got the better of me here; I booked 2 seats Phuket to Kuala Lumpur yesterday in the World on Sale promo for 1800 Thai baht. Same flights using this link came to 3980 Thai baht.

    • have you checked different dates?
the same date sold out/updated to latest price reflecting seats?

      • You are right - just checked again (I must have too much time on my hands) and the prices have gone up. Made it worthwhile getting up early yesterday morning.
