All i can think of now is pricing error, think im scarred for life

    • +1

This is on their official email so it's not a price error.

    • it was $79 bucks anyway and Echo is $79 as well. You can rest assured. I just bought an echo yesterday.

  • -7

Serial renegers. I won't waste any more time ordering online or going in store to be told it's just their latest stuff up.

I'll consider shopping there again one day, once they've got some form for correctly pricing and honouring advertised sales for items online, in store or on their ebay platform.

    • +1

This is on their official email so it's not a price error.

      • +5

        Never claimed otherwise.

Don't be offended - I wasn't negging you - only a retailer with a history (The Good Guys who were the only retailer listed in your pre-edited post), as is listed as a valid usage of a neg.

I don't doubt it is a genuine price, but nor does a published price in an email or on their website substantiate the deal, as hundreds of Ozbargainers have found out in two separate deals for similar items this week.

    • Not a valid down vote UncleRico. You should rescind.

      • +1

And yet voting guidelines list "Issue with Retailer" among the three valid listed reasons for a neg vote.

What is the reason you believe my opinion of this retailer's practices is invalid?

I note that the original post has been edited to include other retailers, including those with cheaper pricing. I encourage everyone to purchase from Bing Lee, save themselves $5 and the frustration of cancelled orders and conflicting information from Good Guys - who the original deal listed exclusively and for whom the original revoked neg was directed against.

        • +1

I kind of agree with you. Even if this is the right price, I am likely to buy it from other retailers rather than TGG. Only problem being, most of the retailers here are more or less the same and I have had some good experiences with them and no so good experience at other times. None appears to be so much better than the other.

        • -6

What bad practice does this retailer have? You have spat your dummy because if a couple of price errors. Big whoop.

This post was a correct price from a credible retailer. So the neg on this post wasn't warranted. You know it and if you're arguing the point then you are also petty as well as wrong. 😘

          • @mooney: Contrary to your own dummy spit at someone not sharing your opinion, there was a very valid reason for the neg - two in fact.

The original deal ($79 at Good Guys) was neither the cheapest available and was listing a retailer who hundreds of posters had recent issues with. You may not be aware of them, nor will you find them in recent posts, since they've since been moved to forums once it was established they weren't deals either. But if you look, you'll find ample people have had concerns with The Good Guys for online transactions, delays, communication and price/order mix-ups that go well beyond their two separate stuff ups this week.

Ergo, two of the three valid reasons for voting negative have been satisfied. That said, since the OP has now amended his post to include the cheaper price and alternate providers, I am happy for the neg to be rescinded.

            Toys back in the pram…

    • +4

For all the neggers, I should point out that my comment was made at a time when the original post was for a $79 product listed from The Good Guys only.

As others have since pointed out, the product is available for cheaper elsewhere and from a range of other retailers beyond The Good Guys who have a rich history of not honouring online deals as many of you will have seen in the past two days. If you click in revisions, you'll see that the post has since been edited to reflect the other retailers and cheaper price.

Unlike the original post, my comment cannot been edited, so seems harsh now that other retailers and a cheaper price have been included into the deal. So ease up on the butthurt, eh…

Also $79 here with free delivery https://store.google.com/product/google_home

  • Same price in Officeworks, $79

  • +2

This is a valid price not a price error. Several stores are selling for $79 right now, including Google store with free delivery. If you have the $20 credit from TGG Max price error, you pay only $59 from your pocket, a bargain.

Btw the Google Home Max is still $199 at many places. I picked one up in store for $179 at JB Hurstville by asking for their best price.

    • love the max. i was so blown away by their sound quality. Hooked up 2x via Aux with stereo splitter to 2x mono left and right for enhanced sound stage separation. setting up as stereo pair and using aux has major lag when gaming and video'ing.

      • Me too. I only wanted to get one but then went back for another. I find it hard to justify buying the Google Home… But the Max seems less disposable if I get bored of the smart features. I plan to just use them paired wirelessly for stereo.

    • Home Hub Max at genuine non price error of $199, now that would get me excited. :)

    • +1

oh max, i thought you meant hub max

  • Anything near this price that's better? It's a pretty old speaker and most reviews are from 2+ years ago.

    • Nothing in this price range beats it for sound quality.

    • Sound quality is very good for this price. I’ve had one over a year and it’s great. If you want better sound still, the google home max is also great now at 199.

    • +1

Amazon Echo 3rd gen ($79). It has better audio that non audiophiles can distinguish, a bluetooth connection that actually works (Google bluetooth is buggy as hell) and a more extensive smart home ecosystem. Amazon also has an official partnership with Apple music. Google does not. It's basically a 2nd Gen Echo Plus minus Zigbee wireless capability. One thing I don't like about Amazon devices is the way Alexa's voice is tied to the master volume setting. It can sound too loud especially at night.

Google assistant is more human-like in the way it converses with the user and it's a helluva more wittier. It also better at scouring the internet for tidbit and information.

  • Does it come with an audio out cable? The reason I ask is that I have powerful speakers that I would love to add to my speaker group. Unfortunately, connecting it via Bluetooth doesn't work (a common issue on the forums) when it is a part of a group and not individually. Did Google do this purposefully to prevent people buy their product?

    • No audio out unfortunately. The direct competitor Amazon Echo has it though I believe.

      • Thanks for the reply. That is a shame. Don't think Chrome Audio is worth it just for the speaker group.

Bought one yesterday at JB in shop for $79 so not price error.
Paid with For Home gift card 2000 Big W reward point offer so similar savings maybe?

  • +1

I have one of these a Google mini (not the newer nest mini) and 2 home maxes.

I find the sound quality from the Google homes to be poor even when compared to the Google mini. I would recommend a nest mini over on of these

    • +2

Yeah I agree. I tested these all next to each other and the mini actually sounds a lot better than the home.

      • Wow. I have both but hadn't ever noticed. I'll have to pay more attention next time.

      • That’s surprising! The Nest Mini (v2) or the Google Mini (v1)?

    • +2

Wow, I have found the complete opposite to this. The Home I've got actually sounds pretty solid, good base, good volume etc, but the minis are really only good for info or taking commands rather than listening to music. They're tinny and the volume distorts at fairly low levels.

      • For me I have reduced bass fully and increased the treble to max on my Google home and find that it is still too bass heavy.

The mini doesnt have any low end but at least gives decent sound quality otherwise

  • +4

Great deal. I've got a Home/ Nest Display/ Few Minis around my place. I feel like they're getting worse with time, maybe because they're trying to get too clever? I usually have to repeat myself two or three times to get it to work - particularly with controlling home devices where it spits out an error or completely misunderstood what I said. Never used to do that.

    • +7

NSA just wants a few better samples of your voice :)

    • +1

      Same experience, getting worse

    • +2

I've felt the same. Part of me wonders though, if I've just gotten more relaxed and casual with my pronunciation as I get used to using a smart speaker.

      • I find either when I speak really clearly it doesn't make a huge difference. I also find that mine is hearing something on the TV that makes it start listening (and lowers the tv volume). And that's not just the ads for Google Home!

    • +1

same experience here. I switched to Alexa, much better experience.

      • I agree, but it doesn't work with Chromecast (that I know of) which is a bit of a deal breaker for me

    • +1

the hub max seems to understand alot faster then the minis

    • Yeah, what's going on? I kept getting deals for minis, so we have 2 Homes and 3 Minis in our tiny apartment. I definitely think they are getting dumber somehow. Wasn't sure if it was my perception (having high expectations that it will work first time, every time) or whether the software or hardware is degrading somehow. Might have to try a factory reset to see if it helps.

The other thing which seems insane is when you give a command to the speaker right next to you and it replies from the bathroom across the other side of the house. It feels like that should be a simple issue to fix but it continues to do it.

      • I got a new one as a gift not long ago (mini) - it's not any better.

In the way of multiple speakers, I find what you're saying particularly annoying with alarms. Need to go and stand next to the speaker with the alarm going off to shut it up.

Also frustrating how it won't let you use your phone's capabilities by saying "ok Google" without the home overriding it. Means you can't send SMS or make calls by voice from your phone if a speaker is within ears reach.

  • +1

Sweet I can upgrade my mini in my kitchen and move the mini elsewhere

  • +1

Just got the last one at Officeworks Mentone, Vic :D

  • It has been as low as $70 in the past, no?

  • These items sound rather appealing but I am still unsure as to the benefit of owning one. I do use a Google Chromecast almost daily though… but I don't have to talk to that.

The Most Useful Things To Ask Google Assistant

Full credit to author Chris Jager
      Mar 10, 2020, 8:00am

Google's voice-activated AI tool - AKA Google Assistant - is getting smarter and more useful with every new update. If it's been a while since you used it last, you might be surprised by the huge number of tasks it can now help with. Here are 66 useful questions and commands to try today.

Over the past few years, Google Assistant has gone from a mediocre Siri clone to the most sophisticated digital assistant on the market. It now powers thousands of speaker-equipped products, from soundbars and TVs, to smart fridges and even cars. Then there's the extensive range of Google Home smart speakers.

But for the majority of people, the most useful iteration of Google Assistant remains the one in your pocket. (Assuming you have an Android-powered smartphone, that is.)

As previously reported, there's a handy site that keeps tabs of all the things you can ask Google Assistant - but finding the good stuff can take ages. With that in mind, we asked Google's local media team to share some of the questions and phrases that they consider to be the most useful. Here are their responses, divided into various catrgories: from commuting to entertainment.

Everything Your Google Home Can Do Is Now Listed On One Incredibly Useful Website
If you picked up a Google Home recently, you may be wondering what it's good for besides checking the weather and playing music. Google's smart speakers may not boast as many third-party skills as Amazon's Alexa, but there's still a ton you can do.

If you’re new to the Google Assistant:
Ask “What can you do?” to get started.

      Day-to-day help

“Good morning” for a personalised briefing of your Google Calendar, your commute from Google Maps, reminders, the weather forecast, local news updates and more.

“What’s on my agenda for today?”

“Remind me to call the bank.”

“Remember I left my passport on the nightstand.”

“Remember Peter’s birthday is March 5th.”

On your phone, you can make emailing easier by saying “Send an email to Mum.”

When you’re ready for bed, just say, “Hey Google, good night” to commence your evening Routine. This could include setting an alarm, turn off compatible lights and TVs and fall asleep to soothing music.

      Commuting
      “How’s the commute to work?”

      “Navigate home.”

      “Servos near me.”

“What’s the address for [insert location]?”

“What are the hours for [insert place]?”

      “Where is the nearest florist?”

“What time will [insert flight number} arrive in Sydney?"

      In the kitchen/eating out
“How do you make cold-brew coffee?”

“Add popcorn to the shopping list.”

“Broadcast: come downstairs for dinner in 5 minutes” (to broadcast the message across other devices around the home).

      “What are some nearby restaurants?”

      “Let’s make ANZAC biscuits.”

      Wellbeing
“Ask Headspace to play today’s meditation.”

“Ask Headspace to help me fall asleep.”

“Show me how to do yoga on YouTube.”

"Set a 30-minute app timer for [app].”

      "Start Wind Down at [time].”

On your phone, ask these helpful questions to understand your habits:

"How much time did I spend on my phone on Wednesday?"

"How much time did I spend on [app] today?"

"How much time did I spend on [app] on Saturday?"

Google Photos (for your phone and on Google Nest Hub)
When you use Google Photos on your mobile phone or Google Nest Hub device, simply ask Google to help find the photos you’re looking for:

“Show me my pictures from [location].”

“Show me my photos of dogs.”

      “Search for hug.”

“Show me my photos from Christmas last year.”

How To Set Up 'Guest Mode' On Your Android
No matter how clean or secure your phone is, we all experience some anxiety when someone borrows it - even if only for a few minutes. For better or worse, we use our smartphones to manage critical parts of our lives, and one errant text or accidental “I left that photo up in my list of recently used apps” can cause a tremendous amount of grief.

      Entertainment
      “Read me my book”

      “Who is the author?”

      “Play Stranger Things.”

      "I'm feeling lucky."

      “Can you rap?”

      “Avengers Assemble.”

“Who is the fairest of them all?”

      “Mirror, mirror, on the wall.”

“Tell me what you want, what you really, really want.”

      “Are you ticklish?”

“Do you want to build a snowman?

      “Do you speak morse code?”

      “See ya later, alligator.”

      Family Friendly Content
      “Talk to The Wiggles.”

“Tell me a story” or “Tell me a story about a kangaroo.”

      “Talk to Moshi Twilight.”

      “Talk to Little Baby Bum.”

      "Play Lucky Trivia for Families.”

      “Play Musical Chairs.”

      “Play Musical Statues.”

      “Let’s play a game.”

      “Play ABC Behind the News.”

      “Help me with my homework.”

      “Tell me a fun fact.”

“How do you say ‘Let’s have crêpes for breakfast’ in French?”

“Play funny cat videos on YouTube.”

      “Play Kinderling Radio.”

“Read The Complete Adventures of Blinky Bill.”

      “Tell me a joke.”

      Aussie, Aussie, Aussie
“Help me sound like a cricket fan.”

      “Give me a footy cliché.”

“Who’s going to win the flag?”

      “Talk like a footballer.”

“When are the [insert team] playing next?”

“Play the Sydney Swans [or other football team] news.”

      "Crikey”

For 'smart device' control tho, I find it more of a PITA than Alexa.

Really really need a CHEAP,EASY and EFFICIENT solution for smart device control without relying on sooooo much cloud interaction :(

        • +1

google home let me know the other day it can now communicate directly with my Yeelights when at home, now they turn on much faster which is cool. I havent tried them outside the house yet or off network, but i guess it'll be the usual slower cloud connection and still work.

      • +1

Whoah … now that list is impressive!

      • All things you can do through your phone.. so what's the point of another permanently plugged in non-portable device taking up bench space that is less readily accessible?

  • Anyone know if the mics are better on the home vs the mini?

    • supposed to be

  • Just so you guys know, if you turned tracking off, Google Home stops working. I would create just a dummy account to use it

  • Be aware also that when you lose internet connectivity, Google Home/Assistant won't work, which mean you cannot tell your smart devices on your home network to switch on/off/change setting etc…

    • +1

It also stops working when you have a blackout

      • +1

Not mine, I have UPS for all my network equipment, including routers/switches, DVR, alarm/security cameras (running POE) :-p

  • -1

    I'll stick with Alexa

  • +1

Thanks for this. Finally added a Google Home to the bedroom, completing the collection. I also have two Nest Mini’s and an original Mini. I was concerned the standard sized Home wouldn’t be too impressive given its age but it’s actually pretty good, especially at this price.

  • +1

Thank OP , order one for $59 using $20 voucher from TGG .

  • +1

i presume the people that didn't want to download the government app due to data hacks are happy to give their purchasing history to a corporation?

    • +1

Neither matters in the big scheme of things.

  • Tbh, i find the google home mini (1st gen) to sound better. The google home has too much bass to the point where voice and vocals sound muffled, despite setting the EQ to min bass and max treble.

Home mini is clear sounding but the bass is lacking but cant complain when it costs <$35.

If i were to buy again. Mini. Or Max.

  • How does the sound on these compare to the OG Echo Plus? Really happy with the sound on that so if this is as good as the Echo Plus, I'd grab one to play YouTube Music instead of the default Prime music selection.

    • We play Apple ipad Music througb blutooth speakers. Sony XB40s I believe. Sound quality perfect for us. Jb or Harvey Norman, if they have not been superceded by now. Were about $120 each. Family has 3.

  • +3

After one week waiting, Bing Lee eBay asked me if I want to wait for others 4 months.

It's with regret we need to inform you that we have had a supply issue

After a few follow-ups today, it's been revealed that this model is sold out and stock in our warehouse is repacked or damaged.

Good News is that our head office has placed orders for this item

However, it might take almost 4 months for the stock to arrive

Please advise if you would like to wait for the orders to arrive

    • +1

      WTF

    • that explains my why order is sitting there supposedly arriving yesterday with no tracking number… At least you got a notification. I've received jack. Bloody hell should've just gone with JB or something
