  • It says the LED strip has reconnection strips? Anyone know how these work? Id like to run LED strip light under out kitchen cabinets, its 1m on the left side then 900mm wide rangehood and then 1m on the right. Ideally i don't want light to run under the rangehood. I was originally planning to just buy two x 1m long LED strips and have the both pluged into 240v but ideally just one would be better.

I ran mine under the rangehood by sticking the LED strip to an alumium extrusion first then screwing that underneath the cabinets. The original lights in the rangehood were hopeless, so this is much better lighting to see what I'm cooking.

Not sure how the reconnection strips work - maybe they puncture through the clear plastic coating to make contact.

      • +1

+1 for aluminium extrusion across the rangehood. I used this one. Our rangehood sits flush with the cabinets so the one continuous LED strip looks great.

The reconnection steps usually work like usb. You scrape off the plastic to expose the pads near where you would cut the strip and the reconnection thing usually has pins that would make contact with them when you insert the led strip into it.

You theoretically should be able to run as many strips as you want as long as the 240v transformer can output enough amps to drive all the leds. If you run it all in series then i guess voltage drop becomes an issue too.

    • Not sure if it helps, but IKEA have white LED strips that come in 4 pieces for $15. I used the recent IKEA promo code on here for $10 off that. Only issue will be that you will need to mount the transformer somewhere, but assume the Aldi one has one as well.

      • isn't it just 3 pieces of 25cm as stated in the description and is only warm white.

Aldi is 5m RGB + white

        • Yep, but chillybags wants something in multiple segments and doesn't need to be coloured. Don't need to run the whole 900mm. A 250mm strip will still illuminate that whole area..and it's half the price.

You too can have a bedroom like my daughter. 🤦‍♂️

All my Aldi dimmable LED bulbs died within 3 months.

Replaced them all with Ikea ones for similar price and all are still going strong.

    • +1

Lucky they were still under warranty.

    • Replaced them all with Ikea ones for similar price and all are still going strong.

Why are all the dimmable IKEA ones ES not BC :/

  • +3

Not really smart then , thought it's google/alexa smart

    • +2

Agree, smart these days means integration with Google, Alexa, etc. Still decent price for led bulbs and strips.

Every light I have purchased from Aldi they haven’t lasted more then 4 months. So keep your receipt. Even the workers said they don’t buy them because they are no good.

  • +1

Too bad it doesn't say the wattage for the smart bulbs

  • Stays on for up to 15 seconds?

    • +1

After you turn the light off at the switch.

      • What a great feature

Do they also turn on 15 seconds after you turn on the switch ?

        • It's actually not bad for a bedroom light. When you turn it off at the switch it goes to half brightness for the 15 seconds, then fades off over a couple of seconds. Good for switching off then having enough light to make your way to bed, if you haven't invested in a smart bulb system like Hue (or even if you have).

  • Recently saw $5 for 10 LED bulbs at Bunnings so…

    • Apparenty they are rubbish and die in no time (search on here). I got one of the government RECS crew out and they replaced 45 of my led globes for $0. I used YESS.

      • Same here and they really work well. Tax well spent

        • Yep, used them three times now. That's 130 LED globes for nothing. Beat that ALDI

          • @tunzafun001: How does this work? Do they try and upsell other gear?

            • +1

@wellglued14: Nah, just an environmental government initiative to replace old globes with LEDs. They can change your shower head and give you an auto shut off powerboard as well if you want. No catch (other than you need old globes that need replacing). That's why I don't understand why people would pay for LED globes. The options are 5/9 & 14w in either warm or cold white (14w are flood lights for security lights etc).

On sale after 11days? Do I still remember it? Even am I still alive? lol

    • Click the reminder button

      • I never knew the reminder button. Thanks.

  • Nice collection, hoping for some smart plug from Aldi

  • Only found light bulbs

    • Regarding the LED strip. I went to my local 10 minutes after opening and was told they sold out in 5. Just got back from another and they said they never received any.

      • I was looking for the nightlight but didn't see a lightstrip either.

  • Got a LED Smart Motion Sensor Bulb today, thanks OP :)
