In real terms, this is about 15% cheaper than last year's model at the same point. Bodes well for the rest of the pricing cycle.

    • +4

Yep, I am still waiting for the 48" LG CX to be released. Going to be using it as a monitor for my PC. Supports 4K 120Hz over HDMI 2.1, has GSync and Freesync support coming, and has the best PPI of the bunch being a 48". The only thing I will wait for confirmation on from reviewers before pulling the plug, is that considering not a single videocard in the market has HDMI 2.1 support right now (I have an RTX 2070 Super), will using a DisplayPort to HDMI 2.1 converter allow for 4K @ 120Hz @ 4:4:4 and support for all the HDR methods. If the answer is yes, then this TV is a definite purchase for me, otherwise I will likely wait for next year and hope that next-gen models come with DisplayPort support built into the TV.

      • +2

I'm using a 55" C9 as my monitor at the moment (I just sit a bit further back). 4K @ 60Hz support at the moment, just waiting to try out 4K @ 120hz eventually. I'm sure it'll be possible somehow since they've built the TV to allow for it.

I've also got a 2070 Super but I plan on upgrading to a 3080ti once that gets released. The dream is to play Ultra settings with Maxed out Ray tracing @ 4K 120hz on my 55" C9 with a 5.1 surround sound set up!

I can never go back to any normal monitor, C9 just looks so damn amazing and runs well it's insane. Highly recommend the 48".

        • +2

Yeah as per my comment to kirt below, I've been waiting for the 48" ever since it got announced and have been waiting for an OLED TV smaller than 50" for a couple of years now. 55" is too big for my desk space, my ideal OLED TV would be 43", same size as my current Sony 4K TV that I'm using as a monitor, but I accepted the 48" size when it got announced, now I am hearing other comments saying it won't be coming to Australia. Completely bummed by this news.

        • +2

I am using the C9 55. its amazing, i was gonna wait for the 48" back in Feb, couldn't wait, but so happy with the price i got for it @ 1800 approx and the size of 55" i thought was gonna be too big, but totally get used to it as desktop! And yeah looking forward to the 3080 series for 4k@120 !

Burn in ppl ask, well i have a black screen saver that kicks in after 1 minute and icons on desktop..well im using the computer not staring at icons. Its worth the risk imo!

          • @jt0505t: You don't get a sore neck from swivelling to see the whole screen?

            • @Felixrising: That was the only reason holding me back from the 55" because of the swivel sore neck sitting 1.25 meters away….Surprisingly no, being playing Bannerlord and the feeling of immersion is awesome and basic windows applications I cannot complain. 100% satisfied.

I probably use the screen for computing and/or gaming approx 1.5 hours a day.

Other tips i use, is using Dark Mode whenever on browsers etc, black background and auto hide taskbar.

        • +1

          The dream sounds orgasmic

      • I am still waiting for the 48" LG CX to be released.

Last I heard we weren't getting the 48 CX here in Australia, or has that changed (or are you importing it)?

        • +3

I didn't know this, I thought the 48" is releasing at a later date (around June). Why on earth would LG not bring the 48" here to Australia, I've been looking forward to this TV since it was announced. No definitely won't be importing it, and if Sony or Panasonic end up releasing a smaller than 50" OLED TV before they do here, I will definitely go that route. I've been waiting for an OLED TV in this size for a couple of years now, I'd even prefer a 43".

        • Where did you hear that?

      • You might have to settle for 4k @ 120Hz @ 4:2:0, and then use the AI text-sharpening feature to fix desktop issues, at least until next gen GPUs.

Converters will eventually arrive, but it's unclear how much they'll cost. If it's over $150, I'd probably just get a new card.

      • -1

Would not recommend an OLED for a PC. Your desktop icons and start bar will burn into the screen.

        • +3

Burn-in really hasn't been a big issue for OLED over the last couple of years, before that it was much bigger. The TV's come with pixel shifter setting now that basically moves & refreshes pixels stuck on one area for a while. Turning them on & off in such small scales, and shifting the screen one pixel to the right or left, and smarty, is not even noticeable to the human eye. There have been a lot of techniques & technologies added to prevent burn from happening. Basically unless the TV is blasted to maximum brightness and those settings are turned off, it's highly unlikely to notice anything within the first few years at least.

          • @ThatsCheap: All that pixel shifters do is increase the size of the burn in on a static image. It just takes twice as long.

        • +6

I currently have my OLED plugged into a HTPC used for watching video content as well as gaming.

Set the screensaver to timeout within 1min so the screen goes blank quickly. Have a black desktop background. Auto-hide the start bar.

This has worked perfectly for me. Little to no burn in, and this is after 3 years worth of almost daily usage.

Its definitely doable as a PC screen as long as you take reasonable precautions to avoid the image remaining static for long periods of time.

          • +2

@FuRyZ: Sorry mate, no one wants to hear your solid anecdotal evidence that burn-in is no longer an issue. They'd rather keep perpetuating a myth that may have been relevant 3 years ago.

            • +1

@d3ft: Woops I apologise, I meant to say OLED burn in very bad. CRTs forever!!!!

      • +1

I used a 40inch 4K screen as a computer monitors and found it way too big. When I had to move my head around to see the whole screen, I knew it was an issue. Went down to a 34 inch ultrawide and a secondary 24 inch and it’s a much better solution for me.

        • Yes I watched a video on YouTube where the reviewers were discussing a 40", I was all gung-ho about the 48" CX as a PC monitor until I saw them describing the same issue.

Will stick with my 34" ultrawide and focus on VR gaming with my new Oculus Quest instead.

          • @zan5hin: I've got a Samsung Odyssey +, but I find the resolution too low and the image too pixelated, the field of view way too small (it's like I'm looking through a keyhole), and frankly, on anything that my brain thinks is somewhat realistic (DCS or iRacing), I get terribly motion sick.

My biggest problem though is the fixed focal point, it's not realistic to have to turn your head to look around and stay in focus. You should be able to move your eyes around and see everything in focus. I believe these problems are synonymous with all VR headsets.

      • The CX is supposed to be able to do 4k 120hz over hdmi 2.0

    • +2

It's allowed just not relevant to the deal at all

      • -1

Thanks but I do think it's relevant? Just would like to hear suggestions from you guys for the pros and cons for these two models.

  • -2

    Lower….

  • +2

Bargain price given the fact it's a new release. If you want it cheaper wait longer.

  • +5

Good post here on "new features and differences between the 2019 C9 and the 2020 CX":

    https://www.avsforum.com/forum/40-oled-technology-flat-panel…

My 10 year old plasma has served me well, but it's time for an OLED - can the 77 CX hit $5.5k by the end of the year???

    • +1

Still waiting for the C9 to hit that price lol

      • Oh sh!t really - what's the lowest it's been?

      • +1

I bought a brand new C8 77" end of last year for $3999 from David Jones, C9 should be possible in a few months time I'd say.

        • Wow! do you keep it on the floor or did you wall mount it?

  • -4

The c9 old or ancient still is hdmi 2.1 built, so it's a better investment ( this is just a increment) so no value

  • Anyone know where I can get the LG C9 65 for cheap?

    • +1

      Online

      • +4

I heard that's where all the cool kids shop nowadays.

        • Shop eat work play date excercise socialise.. everything is online these days.

      • I bought something online once, I can thoroughly recommend it.

    • Any of the sales where it was around $2600.

    • Problem is finding stock

  • +3

this is good price but also note you can get it for $3788 from the good guy commercial

    • I got it for 3800 in the store. Took a bit of bargaining though. Now I know why they were prepared to give me that price if commercial was a fraction cheaper

  • Their eBay store doesn't have the 65SM8600 listed.

  • -3

Any improvement to the burn in, or will i still ruin this one in 2-3 years?

    • +2

Free replacement thanks to the kind people at the ACCC giving you rights.

      • You're not going to get a replacement for OLED burn-in.

        • Check Whirlpool, lots of people say you're wrong.

        • +1

After about 2.5 years my B755 had very noticeable burn in from the channel 9 and 7 FTA morning TV. Well out of warranty however LG were great and replaced the panel about a month ago. Well out of warranty. So yes unless things have changed then burn in does occur ( or did on B755s) and was no need to go to ACCCC , a polite and factual phone call followed by emails and photos of the screen, The panel was replaced for free.

          • @ern123: That's really great they done that, but at the same time a bit of a worry paying $4k for a TV wanting to get 8-10 years out of it and it topping out at 2.5 years.

Working from home i run music video stations like MTV all day with static content, so I'd probably burn the panel in less than 18 months.

Wow 4 downvotes, some snowflakes are sensitive about their TV's.

  • +2

Can confirm my C9 is the most amazing panel/TV/computer monitor. I'd consider an upgrade but there's not much different about the CX. I'm usually one to upgrade quickly but the C9 is just so good it doesn't need to be upgraded. If the C9 price drops as it should, get yourself one. You won't be disappointed.

    • Except for the 10/100 Lan port on the back…

    • C9 was over $1200 cheaper too. Couldn't imagine spending near $4k for essentially the same thing

  • +9

Ok guys buy the C9 over the CX if you’re looking to future proof. LG has just revealed that this years models aren’t full bandwidth hdmi 2.1 like they had claimed previously, and that last years were. Pretty damn annoyed as I am going to buy the CX When it drops some more and wanted it to be future proofed for many years to come. https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarcher/2020/05/04/lgs-2020-…

    • hmm glad i got my C9 55 as a gaming monitor with nvidia.

    • That's news to me. Glad I got the C9 65" when I did in November. I was debating whether to wait for CX but couldn't pass up on the price ($2295).

    • What a strange move!

    • +5

These are still as future proof as a 4k 10bit OLED panel supports. The inputs are HDMI 2.1, however only seem to support up to 40GBPS rather than the full fat 48GBPS. As the article states, they still support 4K 120hz 4:4:4/RGB 10bit. 48GBPS would only make a difference if the panel was 12 bit and/or 8k (which it isn't) so I think this is still hugely future proof. I think full fat 2.1 would only be a 'future proof deal breaker' with 8k televisions.

    • +3

It supports enough bandwidth to display the maximum the panel can achieve (4k 120hz 10bit) @40GBps
      Full 48GBps is for 4k 120hz 12bit.
The panel is 10bit so there is no single use case scenario where you will ever require the extra 8GBps

So you're wasting your time even mentioning it. It is a non issue.

And if you're saying it's deterring you from buying a CX, you clearly don't have a clue what you're talking about.

      • Agreed this is a non-issue in real-world use. A much bigger inconvenience is the inability to natively decode DTS audio, and the C9 can't be bought anywhere anymore if you'd like that feature.

  • Way out of my budget :( I've been looking for a deal on b9 or even c9 if I empty my pockets… but it seems the stock is pretty low these days? where all those b9 have gone?

  • I've got the C9 55 and it's amazing. Was waiting to grab a CX 65 too, thinking it'd be a big improvement over the C9 65. Reviews I've read are leaning towards there not being much difference, so now I'm after a deal on the C9 65!

  • I have a C9 55" wall mounted in my bedroom. Absolutely no need to upgrade, phenomenal tv.

I would also wait till black friday which is only a few months away, this will be down to $2695.

Picked up my 55" for $1712 from JB.

    • Picked up my 55" for $1712 from JB.

      I wish I got that deal. :/

    • Still waiting for a good price on that one, with the way the US is handling COVID19 though we might end up with a strong Aussie dollar again so who knows.

  • +1

Good deal but I'll be waiting a bit longer. We get sub 3k and I'm pulling the trigger!

  • +1

    Apparently 2020 LG Oleds will only support upto 10bit 4K @ 120Hz unlike the 12bit 2019 models. 40Gbps vs 48Gbps.
    https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarcher/2020/05/04/lgs-2020-…

    • Just read this. So only 2 ports are HDMI 2.1?

      Maybe the wording is confusing.

      • +3

Thats for b series. Cx all ports are 2.1. All the panels are only 10bit, so they have allocated resources to the CPU and GPU instead. So 48gps is pointless on any 10 bit panel.

      • That's in the lower tier, 'you will get two HDMI 2.1 ports capable of 10-bit 4K at 120Hz with RGB 4:4:4, and two lower bandwidth ports that max out at 4K/60P with 8-bit RGB 4:4:4.'
WX, GX and CX OLED TVs will have 4 10Bit HDMI 2.1 @ 4K 120Hz.

  • Picked up 65 CX for $3805 including delivery from GG Nunawading last week. Being delivered in the next hour or so.

  • +2

I'm going to wait a few more months once it gets to $3200 or below. I will pull the trigger. It's only a matter of time.

  • are the burn-ins a thing with the new one? i guess to early to tell

  • What is better in the CX over the C9?

  • Is this a good price? Listing is shown as
    More than 10 available / 4 sold

    • It’s a good price for a TV so new to market.

    • From LG: “real content that requires 48Gbps is not available in the market.”

  • +7

People reporting the 40Gbps bandwidth as if it were some kind of issue, please take a look at the specs more closely. These are 10bit panels not 12bit. No amount of extra bandwidth will change this physical limitation and LG are simply taking advantage of the additional unused bandwidth in order to improve image processing. The C9 really is a great TV and for the money and arguably a better buy value wise if you get a good deal, but I'm getting tired of reading misinformation about the CX being inferior when it is purely an upgrade spec wise.

A brief view of the main differences that may or may not justify a CX over a C9 taken from AVS:

CX has support for FreeSync versus C9 which does not).

CX supports 4k120 over HDMI 2.0 (via 4:2:0), while C9 will not be getting this feature.

CX has 120Hz BFI versus C9 which does not (this is a major upgrade and will improve near-black uniformity by 50%)

CX supports Cinema Motion Pro which is probably double-shutter and/or triple-shutter emulation of 24fps content.

    CX includes Aloha-9 Gen 3 processor while C9 includes Alpha-9 Gen 2 (~half as fast/powerful)

CX has Ambient AI (or whatever ir’s called which will modify gamma/EOTF based on ambient light conditions while C9 does not.

  • +1

Must resist, I need to be patient and wait till 75” comes down In price.

  • +1

Would brick and mortar stores honour this as a price match?
Something like a TV that’s this expensive I’d rather get locally than only - in case of warranty/dead pixels etc

    • Depends on the store/sales person, I've always found they tend to prefer my business and have matched online prices for most of my big ticket items. They may try to push for extended warranty (in the hopes you don't know know your consumer rights) or try to bundle cables, consoles etc to get more out of the transaction, but you can sidestep these easily enough.

  • So when are the C9 going down in price?

    • They already did. Now there is hardly any stock left.

  • LG OLED CX 77” my question is, is there a bigger one than this? Say 82” or 85”? Tia

  • +1

Bought CX 65 from TGG today for effectively 3350 delivered. 3650 delivered - 300 cash back promotion.

    • Is that using gift cards - ie: haggled to $3850, then used gift cards that you got for 5% discount, making it $3650?

  • No gift card. Just negotiated the price to 3650 delivered. I can give the copy the the receipt if u want or call the same sales guy if that is easier.

    • If you could post a copy of the receipt that would be great, thanks!

    • Bit late to this thread but could you message me a copy if you have it?

      • Just sent the copy in PM to you.
