Philips Series 3000 8-in-1 Face & Hair Multigroom Trimmer MG3730/15 $49.95 Delivered @ Myer

170

While staying at home I've begun using clippers to cut my own hair and it turns out it's really easy and much cheaper than paying for haircuts!

However, my clippers had a maximum length of 7mm which was a bit too hardcore for me. A friend recommended these which thankfully go a bit longer (2 stubble combs (1,2 mm) , 1 adjustable beard comb (3-7 mm) and 3 hair combs (9,12,16 mm).) See: https://www.philips.com.au/c-p/MG3730_15/multigroom-series-3…

Myer has it for $49.95 which is the lowest price around including free delivery.

I would say this is far from a deal. Has been $29.95 before. Can get the 5000 for this price a lot of the time.

Yeah Amazon has the 5000 for sub $50 occasionally. Waterproof ftw.

Bought this ~9 months ago for $29.95 delivered. Because of that wouldn't call this a great deal considering you can get better models at similar or just slightly higher price points.

Haven't had any complaints, does what it's supposed to do and at that price can't go wrong. The nose hair attachment is nifty to have considering even a cheap one on its own goes for about $20 so for a bit more you can get a competent multi-purpose grooming tool.

Main downside is it uses a NiCad battery which only lasts just under an hour and takes a few hours to charge. As such you sort of have to keep a mental note of the last time you charged it to avoid a scenario of it dying in the middle of a job. To be fair though you'll definitely be able to tell when its only got a few minutes left in that tank as the sound/power is noticeably different.

    • Can it be used while plugged into mains or does it only work from battery?

      • +1

Unfortunately not, it seems to run off solely the battery and the battery itself charges much slower than the rate it depletes which is why you need to be aware of how much battery is left. Even the instructions say to not use it while plugged in.

Thank you for the feedback - this is helpful. I don't think it's heaps helpful what the price was during a sale 9 months ago though, this is aimed at people who might be looking for clippers now. This is the cheapest price for this product and $10 off according to Myer.

That said, I'd be interested in what you'd suggest for better models at similar price points.

Can't comment on this one, but I've got the 5000 and used it for everything except the hair on the top of my head and it has been great so far.
Something must be going on in the market, because as of December 2019 we could get the MG5730/15 for under $40, and it is waterproof and comes with an additional foil shaver head and detail trimmer head. I can't find one for less than $75 right now, so the MG3730/15 might have to be the OzB go to trimmer for a while. I actually originally misread this deal as being for the MG3730/15 it used to ge tposted that often.

  • My beard hair is super thick and get's hard by the end of the day (even with oiling and beard wash) - other beard trimmers struggle a little and sometimes end up pulling the hair rather than cutting because of thickness - will this one be okay?

Don't think this is a "deal" but the trimmer itself cuts very well and has self sharpening blades that don't require oiling, unlike most other models around this price point. The noise hair trimmer isn't very good.
