[QLD] RACQ Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy 5% Discount for Existing Policy Holders

710

First deal post.. hopefully it's a winner!

Saw a banner when on the RACQ website stating "We're giving back up to $5 million^ to motorists. With less Queenslanders driving and fewer claims, we've reviewed our premiums for new and existing Comprehensive Car Insurance, Third Party Fire and Theft, and Third Party Liability policy holders to give you the best value. With RACQ you know you're covered."

Hit up a conversation with live chat, quoted the banner and the rep offered me a 5% discount on my existing policy. I pay yearly so the amount will be refunded in a few business days - haven't received any marketing or contact from RACQ. The representative was more than happy to help me with an additional discount on my policy due to the current situation with COVID-19

  • Scored a quick $44 for using the car less.

    • Awesome! Glad it worked for you too :)

  • only for comprehensive ?

    • I see no harm in trying. The banner does state comprehensive though..

    • I got the discount for Third Party Fire and Theft on one of my vehicles.

  • Thanks!! I got almost $80 back on my policy 😁

    • I'm glad! Did they offer you 5% straight up? I tried to barter for more but the rep I got wouldn't budge so I was pretty happy with a similar return.

      • They didn't understand what I was talking about at first so I just said I saw I could get 5% back. It could be worth trying to get more if it's possible 🤔 As you said though I was also pretty happy with the return!

        • I just quoted the banner word for word and the rep seemed to understand 🤷‍♂️ Let me know if you decide to press further 😂

          • +1

@Flumewavey: I did a new chat and they said 5% was the max. The only way to get more would be with their financial hardship application

  • Thanks OP

Just completed my online chat - got refunds on 3 cars and a camper

    • No worries! Did you manage 5% off of each policy?

      • Got 5% back for each

  • Just got my 5% off

  • thanks op just got 26 dollars back not a lot but who cares money is money thanks for that

    • $26 is definitely better in your pocket

  • I think we have OzBargain'd live chat LOL

    • $35 back for me, nice.

      • Glad you got through in the end!

  • Got 5% back too cheers.

  • Is the 5% on the annual premium, or just on the "unused" portion? My policy will expire in less than 2 months so if it's the latter, the savings would be minimal.

    • I can confirm it's on the annual premium!

  • Thanks OP, quite a long wait but got the 5% which was $35 - not to be sneezed at!

    • You're welcome! No sneezing here either :)

  • $48 back for me. Thanks OP!

  • Works faster if you're already logged into your RACQ account and start live chat rather than having an anon account. Took ~5 mins to talk to someone for the claim. Thanks OP!

    • Can confirm as I was already signed in! I will add this to the post - thanks madlad07 :)

  • Thanks OP got $80 back (5%)

  • great deal.

    have 2x policies.

$80 per month and $75 per month.

They knocked $15 per month off each policy valid until the renewal period (5 months away).

    so happy with those savings!

      Can't grumble at that! :)

    • Another winner!

      Fingers crossed for you!

  • Good stuff will try today !

    • Hope it worked for you too!

  • Has anyone tried Hug Insurance? Underwritten by RACQ.

  • Looks like a great deal - aside from using chat as fastest way to follow up about this, what did you say to the chat operator to start the enquiry as it doesn't actually say 5% discount in the blurb?

Hey Coastgirl - I quoted the banner word for word "We're giving back up to $5 million^ to motorists. With less Queenslanders driving and fewer claims, we've reviewed our premiums for new and existing Comprehensive Car Insurance policy holders to give you the best value. With RACQ you know you're covered" and asked what they could do for me :)

Just be a normal human and ask them about getting some of your premium back due to covid virus easy

I had Lindy process my request super easy!

Lindy: Great that is what I have thanks, that will take 5-10 working days to refund to you
Me: thanks again! Now off to do some house chores lol
Lindy:House chores gets boring when we don't travel far now though
Me: house is a clean as ever now, I just do more exercises to keep myself sain lol
Lindy: Yes true. Have a great day and thank you for using RACQ Click to Chat

        I got Lindy too! $75

          Me too!!
Saves $5/m for next 8 months.

  • Got $90 back. Thanks OP

    • Nice cashback for you!

  • Can confirm third party liability policies are also eligible for the 5% discount. I also have policies with NRMA but they said they not giving any discounts.

  • Thanks OP - scored $73.92 - credit applied over remaining 7 months of policy.

    • Woo - glad you got it through!

  • I got a $30 reduction on my policy. Thanks OP!

    • That's awesome!

  • This the warning I got after being offered 5% discount on chat
    Timothy
Thank you. So after my calculation your refund amount will be $41.89. Please also note that your duty of disclosure will still apply and these one off discounts might will impact on your next renewal premium (might see slight increase).

Did anyone else get the same warning?

    • No I did not.

I did get Timothy initially but then it took so long for them to respond I forgot about it. Went back and got Terri instead who didn't disclose that to me.

    • I didn't get that either, but I'll definitely keep an eye out for 5% increase in premiums next year…

  • Thanks Op.
Saved $57.36. Had to re-open the live chat 3 times because I kept forgetting about the chat window in the background. :)

    • Story of my life forgetting about the chat window! Nice saving :)

  • Thanks OP, got 5% back refund as I pay for premium annually.
Another policy due for renewal, they gave 5% discount on renewal premium

    • Awesome! Glad they were able to do it on both policies :)

  • I tried RAC WA two weeks ago, they were a joke. For a comprehensive policy that is worth almost $1000. They said I could get back $2 a month.

  • Got approximately $8 back.

    lol, but hey it's something.

    • I'm curious what motor vehicle you have that costs $160 per year to comprehensively insure

      • Third Party Liability.

Someone here said it worked for them so I asked.

        • +1

Ah nice work then. 2 policies here, they applied it to my comprehensive but not the other one that was 3rd party.

    • +1

Buy yourself a nice bargain from elsewhere using the $8 ;)

  • Were you asked if you had been affected at all e.g. loss of employment or financial hardship or was it available to everyone (i.e. from using car less due to restrictions)?

    • Available to everyone, I was just asked to give some detail about how my travel had changed/reduced. Mentioning working from home seemed to do the trick.

    • I was asked by the consultant who helped me. I told her I've been working from home for two months, and that was enough to satisfy her.

  • Got $35, thanks OP😊

  • Got $29 back, thank you OP!

  • Woo got $160 back! Awesome, thanks OP!

    • I think that's the best I've seen so far!

Thanks OP. Took my $146 refund & I’m about to cancel, very unhappy with my RACQ motor policy.

    • Glad you got a refund too! Why are you unhappy with your policy?

      • They've just called me up to overturn a not-at-fault claim that they paid out over a year ago, they want me to pay the excess stating there is new info from the 3rd party, long story short, there is no new info and i've complained to the ombudsman, it won't eventuate but I'm annoyed that they would even try.

  • Got $65 back, cheers OP!

    • That's awesome!

  • Has anyone received their refund in their bank account?

    • +1

Yeah, my refund appeared on Saturday 🙂

      • I was going to ask as well, mine hasn't still lodged 11th May so that's 13 business days+ hmm

        • +1

I figured mine out before. They refunded to my credit card rather than the savings account I gave them during the live chat so it actually went in last Friday. Live chat was quick at looking it up so might be worth sending a message if you haven't got yours.

          • @DealDevourer: Just looked at my credit card account and sure enough the credit has been placed on the credit card, interesting..

Because we went over our chat and confirmed the bank details.. oh well it's done and dusted now :) guess it's now a contribution to some credit card payments I owe lol

26 May 2020 transaction RACQ LTD EIGHT MILE P

  • Hmmmmm annoying, I still haven't received my refund and they have just advised that it was sent back to the original credit card I used for payment. I explicitly told them not to do that as the card account was closed and I provided them with my bank account details.
