Crucial MX500 is hard to beat

Avoid the BX series as they are dramless which is not great for the small savings

      • -2

Low price , low performance mate~~~~crucial mx500 read write speed is even slower than WD blue, almost same as WD green, the lowest level in WD series

        • +2

I think he is talking about general storage and ONLY Crucial drives nothing else.

          … i would go a Crucial MX500 over a Crucial P1 any day.

When i move a 100gb file it will move at 500gbps the whole time on a Crucial MX500 and on the Crucial P1 the first 10 seconds will move at 2000mbps then slow slow down to 65mbps :) and take longer to finish overall.

          NO THANK YOU<

@vid_ghost: Only thing that turned me off MX500 is the issues it has had in UnRaid Cache. My Samsung 850 Pro has been running for 5 years - going so strong. Got an 840 Evo, and 860 Evo as well. No issues ever.

Building an unraid server, so working out whether to assign the 850 Pro 512GB and 860 Evo 500gb as cache drives, or just use this NVMe for cache. I probably won't need over 500gb for cache, but would do Raid1 if I used the 2 Sata. Or maybe I could do the pro with this NVMe, decisions,decisions.. i know the cache would run as fast as the slower drive, but still.

  • Amazon must have "Dynamic pricing" that increases according to demand: price has gone up to $AU162 now!

    • Damn impressive speeds!

  • My WD Black 500gb was posted from the US this morning 14/05/2020

Now lets see how long it takes to get to me.

  • Mine still hasn't been shipped, ordered five days ago, seem right?

    • The deal was hammered.. so expect a little delay.. i was the first to order then i posted the deal on here after :)

  • Back at the price for order

  • Can the the Intel NUC take this/any m2 ssd?

  • :O

    Estimated delivery: Jun 26, 2020 - Jun 30, 2020

    Good Deal though

    Any MacBook Pro experts here?

Looking to upgrade my 15” MacBook Pro 256Gb SSD with a 500 or 1TB.
    Mid 2015 model
Can I use the one in the post?

  • Wow as someone who's only seen normal sata drives i cant believe how thin and small ssd are…. guess ive never seen a picture until i clicked this one. My new hp spectre is pretty light so i guess this is how they get it razor thin ans light (it's just a tad over 1kg).

Just wondering - i want a ssd for an external hdd backup for less chance of failure when dropped etc. Given no physical parts for the failure… and for speed diff.

If i buy this can you simply buy a SSD external hard dive case on the cheap and chuck a SSD inside like you used to be able to with an old sata 2 hdd?

Or do you need a specific SSD for externals?

    • they have enclosures for nvme drives but they are not as cheap as the normal sata ones

    • Nvme external cases start at $40 .. not cheap at all

      • are the NVME drives cases price point make it better to buy a NVME drive that already comes with an external case?

Otherwise perhaps not necessary for a ps4?

    • Does anyone have any recommendations for a good enclosure that fits this SSD?

  • Thanks for the update. Got one.

  • June 26th delivery..ouch

    • +1~~~really long time

    • When we ordered for this deal my delivery estimate was Jun 10th, it has already shipped and cleared customs in Australia. So that might be a conservative estimate. It could be a week or so sooner than that.

      • Arrived on the 27th so approx 2 weeks ahead of estimate.

  • Nice deal op.

fingers crossed for a cheap 1tb deal soon. these modern games are way too big.

  • I just bought one, I kinda wanted a 1tb but the price was good.
I'll keep my eyes peeled and might get a 1tb too :).

  • Thanks bought 1. Wanted 1tb but comments say this is good price

  • I googled first but the results I get are contrary to a comment written here.
How does this compare to Crucial MX500/P1 m.2, benchmarks say this is a slower drive.
I will be putting this in a gaming Dell G7 laptop.
Can anyone enlighten me on SSDs or direct me to some literature i could read or any well explained videos i could watch?
    Thanks.

    • This is in the top 5 fastest PCI3.0 nvme drive in the world

      1. Samsung Evo 970 Pro
      2. Samsung Evo 970 Evo Plus
      3. Western Digital Black SN750
      4. Adata XPG SX8200 Pro
      5. Samsung Evo 970 Evo

Crucial P1 would be in around the 30th posision its one of the slowest nvme drives you can buy and the
M.2 SATA Crucial MX500 in speed and performance would be around 50th position because its a m.2 SATA drive (NOT PCI3 nvme).

This WD Black SN750 drive is a high end enthusiast Gaming nvme drive and sells for around $200 in aussie PC stores

Those other drives you listed are low end entry level budgets drives.

I orderd one of these for $119 and a 1TB version for $258 when it was on sale… Its going to be a big upgrade from my SATA MX500 and Team T-Force Delta MAX ARGB SSD 500GB.

Not that i will notice it too much though.

      • Thanks for your input.

      • This one is fair enough~~if someone want 2 know the disadvantage of these 5 ssd~

        1. 970 Pro (perfect but very expensive)
        2. 970 EP (Too hot and expensive)
        3. SN750 (A bit cooler and cheaper than 970 EP but still hot and expensive)
        4. SX8200 pro (Not proved as reliable as Samsung/WD, double sided design—-not suitable for some laptops)
        5. 970 EVO (similar to 970 EP)
  • If only I had a mobo that supported NVME… i5-2500K is still going strong but the mobo doesn't even support SATA M.2!

    • $25 gets you an PCI-E card that you can slot an nvme drive into :)

BUT some of these cards dont work with unformatted nvme drives and the nvme drive will needs to be partitioned and formatted before being used with some PCI-E nvme cards.

  • Good Good~got 2~~even cheaper than the previous time

    • +1

Yep, I just got my 500GB today too. The satchel had a hole straight through it though… like a cigerette burn. Didn't go through the box luckily

      • +3

It came from America so it was probably a bullet.. they love their guns

        • Hadn't thought of that! Courier went above and beyond to get it delivered

@aragornelessar: Lol it actually sounds like a keyhole inspection by border patrol sniffing out dodgy packages

            • @s3n: Blardy big key! It was at least a centimetre in size!

  • Back on Sale… have to click the other sellers link

    • Don’t see any sale

      • Sorry i edited my comment last night to say it was sold out but odd that the comment has not changed

  • Back in stock.

  • Am I going to notice any practical difference between a Samsung 870 Pro ssd SATA3 vs this?

    • +1

Only when you copy files. This will move files at 3400mbps VS 525mbps on the Samsung Sata drive you have..

BUT.. to get those speeds you will need to be copying files from one high end NVME drive to another high end NVME drive.

In day to day use you wont notice any differance…

Making copies of files around on the same drive is also very fast.. thats why video editors like nvme drives.. if they wanna make a backup copy of a 60gb video files before they start chopping up the one they edit its super quick for that purpose.

Some games and windows apps load slower on nvme drives.. but overall its an improvement by a little bit.. nothing worth upgrading for.. only if more space is required is it worth the move

      • Thanks Vid_Ghost.

bummer though, nvme sounded so cool and looks great on benchmarks.

        • +2

PS5 and Xbox series X may make nvme drives really worth buying in the future as game developers start taking advantage of the speed they provide.

We will probably start to see games that wont even run unless you have an nvme or Sata SSD drive for the quick "live" loading of game data while you play.

So for future proofin. Nvme maybe a good idea.. no one should be buying new sata drives if they have an nvme slot and the price is almost the same

Nvida and AMD are looking at bringing in new tech that uses fast DDR4 and nvme speeds to boost video graphics memory in their next gen cards comeinf out so theres that too.

    • +1

This is a really interesting video comparing SATA SSD to NVME for gaming, basically showing that in a blind test all participants chose the SATA SSD as being the fastest when they all thought it would be the slowest.

      https://youtu.be/4DKLA7w9eeA

I think we will see the speeds really being used in the next gen consoles and PC gaming after that.

  • says $133.71 + $7.42 Delivery for me now

    • +1

Prices change.. was 117 all day.. check again tomorrow morning.. also check every now and then..

  • +1

It's back at 112.38 + 7.42 delivery, slightly cheaper than last time. Mine only shipped yesterday. Is there any chance Amazon will refund me the difference?

Edit: I spoke to a customer service agent and they gave me $5 account credit because the price dropped before the item was delivered.
