  • quick question is there such a thing as HDMI to USB-C cable/adapter?
i want to connect laptop (hdmi port) to a dock (USBC-C). later, the dock will connect to 2 monitors using HDMI.

i found a lot usbc to hdmi cable but I'm afraid my setup is different and that cable will not works

    • You can't use the HDMI output to connect to the USB C dock. Your computer need to have USBC port to connect to the dock then 2 monitor out.

      • hey thanks for replying.
yeah thats the problem, my laptop has USB c but the dumb one, just for data. already confirmed this with MSI tech. so sad….
i can connect using USB 3.0 port from laptop to the USB C on the dock. this is fine for working, but playing movies are bad. is this because of speed of USBC 3.0 is too slow to carry the video data? (the movie is just FHD, x264)

        • looks like your computer using the first-gen of USB-C and I believe it cant use USB-C for charging right?

So there is only 1 video output?

          • @SnoozeAndLose: yes the laptop spec says Type-C USB3.2 Gen1. but, just tried to charge my mobile with it, yes it can (maybe slow charge, not sure).
the laptop has hdmi, USB A 3.2 and that USB C.
now i am thinking to get new USB A to USB C cable with 5Gbps transfer speed. the current cable i think only can do 480Mbps.
would that help with outputting a better movie quality through the dock to the external monitors?

            • @CyberMurning: YOu can give a bit of reading on this https://www.imore.com/whats-difference-between-usb-c-and-thu…

The cable would be the problem, it is the port itself.

So have you tried to plug in the Monitor to USB-C port?

              • @SnoozeAndLose: yeah i know now the C is just connector name, there are different techs can be built into it. goshz….
so faster speed cable has nothing to do with video quality?

monitor has HDMI only, and i don't have the cable (USB-C to HDMI) but i think i can forget about using USBC on my laptop except for data transfer from mobile or portable HDD. what i tried, connect laptop hdmi to monitor hdmi directly. this way, movie is good not choppy.

but i prefer to get everything connected via dock for work and also for watching movies after, without to plug and unplug the hdmi
but not going to happen i think…..

                • @CyberMurning:

so faster speed cable has nothing to do with video quality?

in theory yes, but not in your case.

If you are using it for 4K then you will need a better HDMI cable on the dock, Normal USB-C to USB-C cable to the dock will be fast enough.

                  • @SnoozeAndLose: found a messy solution: connect laptop to 1st monitor via hdmi directly then laptop->dock>2nd monitor

                    • @CyberMurning: Can you connect 2 monitors via the dock then?

                      • @SnoozeAndLose: i can and fine for work/web BUT choppy laggy when playing movie on any of the two external monitors (monitors are FHD, movie is mkv x264 FHD).
when i do the messy setup, movie is playing perfect in the main monitor, and i still can browse on the second monitor.

someone said that chopyness due to i am outputting via USB 3 instead of USB C thunderbolt, or due to the dock is using displayLink technology which is not good for multimedia.

                        • @CyberMurning: FHD to FHD should not be an issue. So if you are using only the dock and your laptop's on-screen monitor, can you recreate the issue?

I suspect the display card issue, what is your display card? or it is the processing issue if you re using i5 or i7 should be a problem. Sometimes I find the lag also contribute by the RAM, when I use 50 tabs across multiple Google chrome browser, the video I play can be laggy. You can check this using the task manager to see if the CPU or RAM is overload.

  • Got it for 53 delivered. The 10% off coupon works off the full price.

  • Please be aware that your laptop must support USB-C alt mode in order for the HDMI port to work.

  • Delete me, Dupe post

  • Not going to lie, this is a pretty impressive lil dock if it works even at it's full price it's still a bargin.

    • how so? i see there is a vga port which is kind of old and many wont be using

      • It has hdmi
2 usb ports (keyboard and mouse)
        Network port

Suits my needs perfectly. I plug it into my personal or work laptop as needed.

  • would this still work if i connected a USB-C to USB-A converter and then connected to my laptop which doesn't have a USB-C port?
