No thanks, not buying any Chinese goods for now while their totalitarian government tries to blackmail Australia.

    • -3

Don't confuse the Chinese CP with the citizens of the country, let alone within Hong Kong itself or Taiwan etc. It's obvious the people of China would like an investigation into how this happened, considering it's killed a heck of a lot of people there.

  • Nah, I agree.
    China no good.

Won't be buying anything Chinese while they are blackmailing AU/USA

    • It's like watching a couple of puffed up pigeons fighting over bread crumbs in the park…

    • You do realize that the majority of commodities are Made in China right?

It's silly but we are reliant on China, unfortunately and unless we can cosy up with another country, we'll have to work it out.

I'm thinking this or Google pixel 3. Is their much difference in camera quality?

    • +2

It's easy to sideload GCam on Xiaomi phone, especially one with Snapdragon chipset. However, the Pixel 3 has guaranteed Monthly security update even though it's almost 2 years old now, it's guaranteed to get Android 11 + 12 on release. Redmi Note 9 Pro is likely to get 11 & 12 but you will have to wait quite a while.

      • Ty for info!

Looking at the gsm link, how can I tell that the phone includes NFC?

    • Scroll down to the section "Comms"

    • Ctrl + F
      NFC
      Optional: F3

  • This or Mi 9T?

  • Where's the best place to buy screen protectors, etc? I looked @ aliexpress but shipping time is a bit ridiculous

    • Nillkin accessories seem to get good reviews from Xiaomi users.

Never used their products before but I've ordered a protective case from them to see the difference.

Only mentioning it because I noticed they also offer screen protectors.
Again, never used them before, but haven't been impressed with the cheap screen protectors from eBay etc. so might be worth checking out.

      • I have one of their cases for my One Plus 6, and I will be buying the same brand case for this phone when it arrives.

  • I do not believe this version adds NFC as it is not advertised on the seller's site. As I understand, there are almost 3 versions of the Redmi Note 9 'Pro'.
The one in this deal I believe is the Redmi Note 9 Pro(India) with no NFC.

    Redmi Note 9S
Redmi Note 9 Pro Max = Redmi Note 9 Pro (India)(?) = https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_9_pro_(india)-10120.php = Release date March 17
    Redmi Note 9 Pro = https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_9_pro-10217.php = Release date May 05

Edit: With that being said, the phone is offered in Tropical Green which is not available for the Indian version…

I'd advise any buyers to do their due diligence…

    • Redmi Note 9 Pro supports NFC, Redmi Note 9 (MediaTek) supports NFC in certain markets and Redmi Note 9S does not support NFC.

      Source: Xiaomi

    • Well I've ordered one so will be able to confirm once it arrives.

However, I will point out that the posted deal does specify a 64mp main camera.
The non NFC models, including the 9s, all sport the 48mp main camera.

Still you make a fair point regarding due diligence. Same confusing differences were abound when trying to source the RN7 with NFC.

      • Any feedback on NFC?

        • Only just saw your post.

Yes it's the NFC model with working GPay on stock ROM.

I've since moved to xiaomi.eu ROM which unfortunately is now a questionable move as the unlocked bootloader triggers a safety net fail with Google's new hardware attestation.

Just something to be aware of.

          • @sir_bazz: Thanks mate. I ordered off Toby's Deals and haven't heard a thing so could be awhile before I get to play with it.

  • Which one would be better this one or $398 JB HiFi Huawei P30?

    • Is huawei p30 $398 now at JB hi-fi?

  • Gonna give this a go. Sick of waiting for a decent Mi Note 10 Pro deal to come around. If I dont like this phone, I can always off load it to the wife :D

    • As another who's been waiting on the sidelines, that's how I felt too. Bit of a punt as it's only just been released but the price was acceptable for the features.

My biggest concern is actually third party ROM development. It's too soon to know if the development community will get behind this device as it's a different codename to the 9s and 9 pro, (India version).

It's a bit of a gamble at this point in time, if third party ROM support is a feature you rate highly.

    • Hey mate, can you share a review when you've used it? I'm on the fence about waiting for JB to release a S10/iPhone SE Telstra deal, or just biting on this

      • +1

Coming from To deals in HK… don’t hold your breath waiting, as it could be 4 weeks before it gets here.

But sure, as soon as I get it, I’ll post up a review of what my initial impressions are and then give it a test drive for a week and see what it’s like and I’ll update the review.

        • Awesome mate. I think I'll go for the Telstra deal then provided a reasonable offer comes up.

  • Worth upgrading from Pixel 2 XL? Misso's screen on the Pixel is pretty bung up.

  • Anyone received shipping notice for this yet?

    • I ordered as well and have also heard nothing…

    • Edit: just got notification of their plan to ship it. No shipping note, just a “we will do it soon” notice.

      • Same, got a "it will be leaving our warehouse shortly". Hopefully it's actually soon and not "soon".

  • This is the Redmi 9 note pro global version which is sold elsewhere as the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max

    • I don't think so, the one in the link has a 16MP front camera - whereas the Pro Max has a 32MP: https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=10217&idPhone…

      • Oh really

        https://www.gsmarena.com/redmi_note_9_and_global_note_9_pro_…

        And i quote.

        Redmi Note 9 Pro (Global)

The international Redmi Note 9 Pro is actually identical to what Indian customers know as Note 9 Pro Max. This means a 6.67 FHD+ IPS display, four rear cameras with a 64M main shooter and the Snapdragon 720G chipset. The design on the green colorway has been slightly tweaked with a new two-tone finish and a slightly altered camera placement. The fingerprint sensor remains on the right-hand-side.

        • To be fair though, you didn't mention the Indian version in the earlier post.
The India version of the Pro Max doesn't have the same band support, or NFC, which combined are the reason I was prepared to pay a small premium for this phone.

Not sure if there's a global version of the Pro Max yet, but it wouldn't surprise if there is just to add to the confusion.

And as an aside, got the same email that's it's packed and ready for shipping soon.

Edit: Just received the 2nd email to say it has been shipped.

          • @sir_bazz: 128gb ? Colour ? N when did you order it ? Just interested to see if they are improving

            • @Wayne7497: Ordered the day this deal was posted so 9 days so far.
And it was the 6/128 Interstellar Grey

Bought a Redmi Note 7 from them around Sept last year and that took close to a month to arrive, so I understand where you're coming from.
To be honest, I had much lower expectations this time around.

              • @sir_bazz: 379 bux now

                • @Wayne7497: Banggood around that price too.

                  • @sir_bazz: Bangood says 517 for me

                    • @Wayne7497: Yeah that's what I'm seeing now.

The sub $400 price was via the app notifications. Thinking back, I didn't even click on the link so can't confirm it was the 6/128 version.

In any case, it's bound to get cheaper over time.

                      • @sir_bazz: So did it end up arriving ?

                        • @Wayne7497: Mine arrived today, ordered 15/05/2020

                          • @jikijiki: Excellent took the plunge myself @379 at picking at present 2 days

                          • @jikijiki: Ohhhh nice….gives me hope as I ordered on the same day as you.

Too soon to ask for first impressions?

                            • @sir_bazz: If I get the time, I'll type something up but other than that this version comes with NFC

                        • @Wayne7497: Mine has been showing in transit from Hong Kong, for 5 days now. Can't be too far away.

                          • @sir_bazz: Well if it doesn't Kogan have the interstellar grey for $420 shipped locally bought from this seller heybattery before local stock fast shipping.

                            https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/heybattery-xiaomi-redmi-note-9-…

                            • @Wayne7497: Mine arrived this morning.

To be honest, pretty happy with the delivery time, (on this occasion). I ordered a few other items from overseas around the same date and this is the first one to arrive.

                              • @sir_bazz: Mine says SHIPPED by Dpex tracking number supplied fingers crossed

                              • +1

@sir_bazz: Unbelievable i ordered mine on the 28th May delivered today 3rd June 6 days from order to delivery, they are getting better i hope it keeps up.

                                • @Wayne7497: That's fantastic…..such a nice looking device ain't it.

Mines just sitting on the lounge room table at the moment. Waiting for the 168 hours to countdown in order to unlock the bootloader.
No custom ROMs available yet, but I trust the xiaomi.eu port more than the preinstalled global ROM. Not even gonna install any apps until I've switched ROMs.

                                  Enjoy.

                                  • @sir_bazz: It's an awesome phone very nice indeed.. custom roms will come yeah bootloader countdown via.
