Scotts Hand Sanitiser 950ml $13.20 [in-Store Only] @ Bunnings

200

WARNING: Word is it reeks. Buy at your own risk. Might be a good one for the reserves in case of the panic-buying sequel: Corona 2.0

First time post after long time lurking so please be kind!

While at Bunnings today I saw a large amount of these bottles available so I near the registers so I bought one.

I see Chemist Warehouse has 500ml for $5.99, however it’s a half-price sale and they claim the usual price for 500ml is $11.99 (as I’m sure they do with many of their products so not sure how legit that is), meaning $23.98 per litre outside of the sale.

So while it seems it’s the normal Bunnings price for this (with the 1L version costing $0.70 more and thus the same price per litre and no better value), I think $13.20 for 950ml is a great bargain these days!

Note: The MSDS concerns me regarding the percentage of ethanol (>50% ethanol with 30-60% (????) of other ingredients), but it seems the aloe version has the same MSDS (according to the company’s list of MSDSs which only has one MSDS for Scotts branded hand sanitiser) and its label states it contains 70% ethanol. Interested in seeing how this goes - I’d expect it would be scandalous for them to release all this sanitiser under that brand and it not be effective for COVID-19 protection.

Based on my personal experience and the the comments in the OzB deal, fat chance of finding it. It’s also a special buy, so it won’t be back for a while.

        • @JV Only one?

Not as good as picking up 6 for $5.99 each back in January when Aldi was trying to clear unsold stock from the previous time that they had a sanitiser special buy.
I didn't post here at the time because I left less than 10 bottles at my local store and ethanol content wasn't a selling point during the bushfires.

Did you sell them for a profit last month?

@jv: Used half of one. Waiting to sell a couple of the others during the second wave. Based on what I've seen in Sydney this weekend, we should see prices spike again in two weeks.

That's exactly why I haven't yet opened mine.

I actually read this on the Chemist Warehouse reviews! I should add an update to the description.

    • Not from my experience of being near arse. It's a good smell.

      • "It's a good smell"

Arse cracks or Scotts hand sanitier, or both?

        • Hand sanitiser

    • Mate, look likes you been smelling many arse cracks…oppps I mean sanitizers ..

    • I think it is deliberate, so you don't sniff your hands and get "C"

    • I use this daily, it doesn't smell much. However I never smelled an arse crack, so can't comment.

Cheaper at Chemist Warehouse per litre or delivered at My Chemist https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/537237

I acknowledged this in the description - that’s on a half price sale, not everyday price. Its everyday price is 23.98 per litre, so not a bargain. This is the everyday price, so that’s why I consider it a bargain.

  • Ramsay renames Scotts to "Reek"

This stuff smells so bad, it’s just awful.

  • +1

this stuff is absolutly terrible.. that smell

  • +3

Effective against corona because people will want to keep their distance from the smell

  • Of course this is what staff have to use all day at work in Coles. It is horrible smelling but that does go away.

I must be the only person in the world that actually likes the smell. Maybe they've changed the formula recently, because the one I was using at Bunnings (the complimentary stuff they provide on entry) had a fruity gin smell to it.

  • It doesn’t smell any worse than some other sanitisers. However my bottles from chemist warehouse expire April 2021 (purchased 4, date on 1 only?) which is unusual since this brand is supposed to be new and sanitiser should have about 2 to 3 years of life.
Every other product I’ve bought recently has an expiry of 2023.
