      Thanks for the correction ;)

If anyone enjoyed the first film I can't see how you wouldn't like this. This is one of those sequels that should never have been made and somehow they pulled it off.

Also $15 for the 4K/UHD disc.

        • +7

As a fan of the original, watched it back to back and loved it. Can't please everyone. Great film though.

        • +2

I highly suspect that this was edited by committee based on the feedback of the dumbest test audiences ever assembled.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt again if there's ever a director's cut, but I won't hold my breath.

        • Do you happen to know which streaming service has the first one?

          • +1

@bajirao: It was on Netflix, unsure if it still is or not. It definitely wasn't "The Final Cut" version though which I think is far superior to the noir/detective story type cut that had the narration.

            • @fatherofraptors: There are many versions of the original Blade Runner. The thetrical release has the narration. Personally I prefer the directors cut over the final cut.

        • +2

You do know the first blade runner flopped at the box office right?

      • +3

It's a beautiful looking film, it has fantastic music, the writing is great and the story beats are mostly earned.

But Ford is wasted and irrelevant.

And replicants having babies is a s***ty retcon.

    • +2

I watched it and remember literally nothing from it. The original I can remember every scene.

  • is there a special features section in this blu ray? Can't seem to find any mention of it

  • +18

I can understand why some people dislike the film being a bit unconventional in the traditional movie sense but I enjoyed every moment of it.

$15 for the 4k is great deal imo.

    • +9

It's better than the first one IMHO.

      • +1

Yes agree. Watched 2049 first and was a pretty good movie, then went back to the original. Found 2049 better

        • Had you seen the original before 2049?

If I watched 2049 then the original I think I'd find the original hard to watch. Been a while since I've seen both, really want to watch them again.

          • +1

@Ghost47: Depends which version of the original you watch as well. I think the Final Cut is amazing. I tried watching the version on Netflix but felt the noir/detective story style narrating throughout ruined it.

            • @fatherofraptors: Interesting, I think I've only seen the Director's Cut. Think I'll have to get the Final Cut version for my next watch then!

              • @Ghost47: I loved the movie. Took me a lot longer to appreciate the first film.

              • @Ghost47: Director's cut is pretty close to Final I recall.

              • @Ghost47: No the Director's Cut is famous for the Director having nothing to do it and hating it! Final Cut is his actual vision for the film.

          • +2

@Ghost47: Saw 2049 first. Thanks for the tips, will search out Final Cut

Not enough explosions for most people.

    • +3

I think there's a great film there but it was ruined in the edit.

Presumably a few comments slipped into the test audience feedback about the wooden horse or some other coulda-woulda-shoulda been a subtle clue, and then they made the fatal mistake of going back and spelling everything out for the lowest common denominator.

The subject matter really needed at least a Nolan-level of respect for the audience's intelligence, not Disney-level. It's still a good enough movie in its own right, but as a sequel to a movie with such impressive longevity and rewatchability it's surely a disappointment.

    • I actually liked the original release with Harrison Ford narrating. Helps the movie make more sense if you hadn't read the book first.

  • it's on Netflix too

    • +1

But not forever, which is why people still buy Blu-Rays and DVDs

  • +2

This was $2.19 a couple of weeks ago, as mentioned in the comments of this deal. Just received my back-ordered copy.

    • I picked up the 3d bluray of this a while back for around the same price as OP, so yes worth looking around or maybe waiting

  • +5

    Correction, Great movie.

  • +1

It's on netflix at the moment.

  • Do you have to watch the first to watch this?

    • -2

Do you have to watch the first to watch this?
You don't need to watch the second ;)

    • -3

Yeah just watch the first one and be done with it.
The second one is complete rubbish

    • +1

If you want to get the most out of this one, it's definitely worthwhile to watch the first. However, you can still watch this as a standalone and appreciate it. Purely from a visual standpoint, it's completely stunning.

  • +1

$6.99 for the 4K on Google Play too if you don't want the physical disc.

    https://play.google.com/store/movies/details/Blade_Runner_20…

    • +2

If you want crappy mpeg encoding from Google Play though :-(

  • +5

Highly recommend getting the 4K release for this assuming youve got a 4K TV. This is right up there for a benchmark on 4K visuals - looks stunning.

    • +1

      and a 4K Blu-Ray player.

  • +1

    Great movie, incredible price. Thanks

  • I didn't enjoy the movie personally. It probably just stems from not having a huge cinematography understanding so can't appreciate the feats this film reached. I enjoy cliche action and superhero movies so go figure.

    • Now that you mention it, I recall being stunned by the cinematography in this movie. Looked up the cinematographer and lo and behold it was Richard Deakins, who I previously thought did great work.

I too like action and superhero movies (the Marvel ones in particular) but the Blade Runner movies are absolutely amazing movies for their genre. I do have to be in a specific mindset to watch them though.

          You mean Interlinked!

    • Thanks IMDB

      • Thanks username I can't say.

Looking forward to Dune from the same director.

    • Every time I see it mentioned I get annoyed at having to wait.
      I just want it now.
      Just need to be patient…

    • If Dune is being remade then it should be none other than Jodorowsky's Dune.

  • Thick milky…

this is worth $0 with torrent

    • FBI OPEN UP

  • got it last time for 2$, arrived just now

  • this or the OG?

    • Both. Definitely both.

  • I think i saw this on Amazon Prime for free… Or not. Can't remember.

    • If you have a proper 4K TV, then a 4k blu-ray wins over streaming any day of the week.

edit: looks like this is the blu-ray only.

      • Even if you don't have a 4K TV the HD audio usually wins over the standard blu ray audio.

  • this one is meant to be good in 4k

  • For the die-hards. When Roy confronts Tyrell in the original, Tyrells says he can't extend Roy's life because he was made the best he could be. Then Roy kills him.

2049 says that Rachael is a Nexus-7 built by Tyrell. So Tyrell did have the technology to create longer lasting replicants, and hence increase Roy's life? So Tyrell took one for the team, rather than giving Roy more life?

Dont shop from Amazon guys. FOK JEFF BEZOS

    • Why do you sound upset with him?

  • Bought one just to get some perceived benefit from my Prime membership. Doubtful I'll ever watch it.
