    • I never understood these comments about buying PC's.
I have a $2k pc and a LAPTOP and an ultra book, and they all get less than 1% usage of my phone. Everyone uses computers the way I do, just use Samsung dex and stop being a pleb.

      • +1

        No, not everyone does.

  • -4

    Hahaha ,
unless you have very special use case for apple (super high end graphic work or fancy music mixing…etc), Mac is absolute waste of money for normal BAU cases imo!!

    • +2

Tim Apple would like to know your location

    • Thanks for the opinion!

Whenever there's a post about expensive Macbooks the comment section will just be a repeat of what's been said like hundreds of times.

People have preferences and this is a free market so just deal with it. How others spend their money is none of my/your business.

    • You gotta love them, they are always present from airpods, iphone, mac, macbooks to ipads comment section. O wait, not to mention even with the iphone case.

    • +1

Yes, but it does not mean people don't have a right to comment about it. We are not in a dictatorship with no freedom of speech.

      • why I said you gotta love them because they care so much for people that buys apple product.

      • I have no such meanings

      • Freedom of speech doesn't mean obligation of speech, people can think before they open their mouths.

  • +1

Still doesnt beat the last deal with the Vega at OW. Gimme back that deal :(

  • +2

The definition of "Laptop computer" means to use a computer on your lap and "Desktop computer" means to use it on a desk.

For those who reckon the people who would spend 3-4k for a laptop is silly and told them "Yeah, better off building a desktop" have to understand the reasons they want one.

They have to consider people can't carry a desktop, monitor, keyboard and a mouse to work, uni or school and walk for 500m before reaching their destinations. It's just too heavy.

People bought ultrabook/s because they would like to have a slim, light and "powerful" laptop to carry around or to put it inside their bags and to use on their lap.

To be fair, I believe no one wants to put their 3-4k desktop on their lap with a monitor on top of it. Anyway, have a good day.

  • +4

It’s a bit strange all the people shouting Apple down here. It’s like Kmart shoppers shouting down someone who wants to buy a swanky bag on sale - who cares? Spend your money as you wish. This is a deal either way (compared to RRP).

  • +1

    Is this 10th Gen i9 or 9th Gen i9?

    • +1

They are both based on the same Skylake architecture. If you actually look up reviews of the equivalent 10th gen, it's actually slower due to thermals.

    • +1

      9th gen

    • 9th gen. Released in 2019

  • +1

I was tempted by the previous deal at OW for the 15.4 with 32gb at $3200 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/532274. Seemed much better value if the keyboard was not a deal breaker for you.
I've always had 17" laptops till I got a 13"mbp through work and found it a totally liberating experience! Reluctant to give up that freedom with a larger unit.

    • That was a very good deal on MBP market. Lots of used MBP with same spec asking for $4000 level..

  • +7

Upvoting because a deal is a deal and posting deals should be encouraged. Just because a deal isn’t targeted for one’s use case does not mean it is not a deal. If you need macOS on the go and need the most power available to you there is no other option…..

Some people forget that a similar spec high end Surface Book or XPS will also be around the same price.

    • You should up vote a deal when you feel its relevant/helpful to you. When everybody does this, it helps deals that are more relevant to majority of the people land on the front page(if my understanding is correct). Not everybody gets the time to go through all deals. Correct me if my understanding is wrong.

  • +1

Some people will buy this just to browse Facebook and Instagram. Those same people have $700 USD wheels on their cheese grater.

    • +2

I guess web pages will load faster, and you can open more browser tabs without experiencing slowness.
Nowadays, so many JavaScript included on websites will slow down user experience with weak computers.

      • +2

Are you being serious? Is this a Mac problem?

  • -5

Holly hell that's expensive, and that's coming from someone who's saying $2000 for a razor gaming laptop or general Asus laptop,(that's a year supply of $5 Domino's pizza)Yep i also think it's expensive, for what you get.

Dam you don't need a bad as laptop for uni, but if you do, your uni must be gawd dam easy where ever your going to.

Very expensive, you can get a second hand anything, pay 4 years of on Rego tax, pay your bills off for one year(give or take based on the average statistics) dam and the hardware requirements are not even worth that much.

    • +8

For someone working on a Mac and get paid 150K+ a year, it is actually a cheap price.

      • -2

Must be a industry issue, where the first person infected the rest of the development team by putting up a job notice.

Must be compatible with apple or work in Apple ethos.

Still, it's a industry problem with a variety of price gauging.

      • +1

Also, how can you compare a car or pizza to this?
It’s like people who say “why buy a Tesla or BMW when a Toyota Camry or Ford Fiesta will get you from A to B. Second hand.” Clearly missed the point (and save for electric vehicles, all cars run on petrol or diesel whereas macOS and Windows are vastly different operating systems).

  • Should I take this or wait for 10th Gen 16" MBP?

    • +1

The 9th gen CPUs are effectively the same as the 10th gen when under load, save for the Intel Iris Pro graphics (which wouldn’t matter in this Mac, as it has a dedicated graphics card).

    • -3

Just buy it, the government needs tax money.

  • 720p FaceTime cam. Good for security

    • Nice try but most buying this would have a iPhone for FaceTime anyway.

      • it's a $4000 laptop. They can at least included a 1080 webcam for that price

  • +5

Those bagging you don't have to buy it, probably couldn't anyway.

  • +3

Who remembers when laptops routinely cost this much?

    • Dell Precisions and Toughbooks and HP Zbooks have always been like over $5000.

    • +1

Yeah, and that was back when $2,000 was the deposit on a house. When I dropped my Compaq Pentium II with 128mb RAM and cracked the bezel around the monitor, I cried.

Felt pretty leet watching movies on the bus. Well for 20 minutes until the ni-Cad battery conked out.

  • Tried looking back but couldn’t see what the lowest price in history was?

The model below this, is there a massive jump for the price?

  • Am wondering if I should hold out for the 10th gen Intel updates…

  • Where can we get discounted Coles Myer gift cards these days? Last real deal I'm aware of is the Amex/Myer one back in December last year

  • +1

good god apple is a total RIP

    • Upgrading the RAM to 64GB increases the cost of this machine by $1200. 😱

  • +14

Imagine sitting there waiting impatiently for the alerts email to come in from OzBargain that a new MacBook Pro deal has been posted, so you can once again show your great wit and vastly superior intellect about how shit Mac’s and Apple are, how overpriced they are, and how anyone who uses one must be a sheep.

  • +2

I love that the comments on these Apple posts always turn into dick measuring contents.

  • +3

My old boss wanted one of these on a desk, I said no, you can't have one, we're running Windows server. But he kept asking. Eventually I said, fine, but you'll have to boot it into Windows. He said fine. So AFAIK he still has a Macbook Pro on his desk that runs nothing but Windows.

The funny part is that he wanted Bloomberg Terminal as well so he can make out like he's some kind of bleeding edge day trader. So he has the Bloomberg terminal keyboard connected to the computer by USB. Uses it for nothing but restaurant reservations and occasionally checking stock prices. Work pays $20 000 USD per year for the subscription. I suggested if all he was after was the look of having the keyboard on his desk then we could probably mock up an exact replica of the Bloomberg terminal keyboard for less than $20K. Thats probably why I dont work there anymore.

I could never buy anything Apple again after working for that guy.

    • +1

Damn, what a story. Your boss sounds like someone who would sink a company for his $20K keyboard.

    • -1

If your boss was bringing millions a year then this expenditure is insignificant to keep him happy and stay with the company. Operational people often don't get the simple cost benefit of the bigger picture - waste $20k to retain someone earning millions seems like a no brainer frankly.

  • +1

Has anyone been able to successfully price match at officworks?

    • I just got mine at OW Mentone (VIC). $3799. Happy to answer any specific questions

  • Have any of the upvotes priced beat with officeworks?

Also, what’s the cheapest price this macs been?

    • Dont see any reason why it cannot be matched. I have once got the 15" price beaten off of now defunct MacBook store

      • Thanks!
Now just trying to see how much cheaper it was previously?
Tried searching on ozbargain but can’t find it

  • Where does one buy $3800 worth of Discounted Coles/Myer gift cards to use at officeworks?

    • +1

You can get 5% off Coles Group & Myer gift cards on the Good Guys Concierge site if you have a membership to that. I think they work at Officeworks?

      • Thanks but no concierge.

May have to just price match at JB hifi and get gift cards at 7.5%

  • +1

GST back and instant tax deduction. Even better bargain.

    • I’d be doing the same but not GST registered and no prospect of TRS any time soon :(

    • Put it this way, salary sacrifice the laptop, pay no GST, pay no income tax on the expenditure, gets you a macbook for half price. Then sell it a year or 2 later for $2k and you are probably breaking even and had a free laptop for 1-2 years :-)

      • How do you not pay GST? Isn't that only for business and not individuals?

  • +2

Just got one from OW on PB. Thanks OP!

    • Where did you find stock?

      • +1

Doesnt need to have stock. Just place an order at the store and it will be delivered next day to the store so you can pick up

        • +1

When does the price match take place? At the time of ordering?

          • +1

@Nuggets: yes. You have to pay on the spot and they will send you an email when its available to collect in the store

            • @InternetExplorer: Right, whereas at say JB Hi-Fi the item must be in stock at the time.

              • @Nuggets: Wait. were you originally asking whether it needs to be stocked at Centrecom or Officeworks? Officeworks might not match Centrecom now because its pre-order at Centrecom if you are looking for space-gray colour.

                • @InternetExplorer: Both silver and space grey are pre order. Don't worry I know it has to be in stock at the competitor.

    • Did the store have stock when you did the price beat?
Can’t seem to find any store with stock and unavailable to buy online.

I tried calling and they said can’t do it unless they have stock.

  • +1

CentreCom had stock in Silver when I called up OW around 230pm AEST. I matched against that at OW and they offered to get me one in Space Grey which they can get stock the next day. I didn't care which colour so went with it.

  • Guys, just got given the go ahead to purchase.
Does Centrecom have to have stock for OW to price beat?

    • Do I do it at the store, online or over the phone?

      • +3

Usually Centrecom need to have it in stock. But wouldn't hurt to try. Try calling first and if you get rejected try visiting nearby stores.

Centrecom says new stock arrives tomorrow so you can always do it tomorrow if you get rejected today

        • Thanks! Will give it a whirl.

        • Hey, it’s back in stock and I just tried to call and price beat. The person on the phone said that they (Officeworks) don’t have it in stock and can’t be price beat/ordered.

Is this correct? I need to find a store (Officeworks) with stock?

  • Just pricematched from Mediaform. The assistant entered the price excluding GST so almost had it under $3500 but unfortunately he realised the mistake.
