PDF markup app for Windows. Used to be $17 I think. The price varies all the time.

From the store description-
Drawboard PDF is renowned for smooth and natural pen inking, uniquely intuitive and easy user interface, pen and touch compatibility and an impressive array of markup and text review tools. And of course, all our annotations comply with global PDF specification standards.

They also have some sort of pro subscription which is paid but optional. The base app has all the features most people need.

I bought it a while ago - it was the first app of many I tried that worked with the pen on my 2-in-1 Windows laptop for marking up PDFs. The user interface has its quirks but I'd recommend it for marking up, especially if it's free. It isn't a (good) PDF reader for general documents - Foxit Reader is much better for general reading.

Did you ever try xodo?I use it on pc and Android and it does all the stuff you'd need and has always been free.

        +1 for Xodo PDF Reader

This PDF reader doesn't hog your computer like Adobe Reader or any other Windows App does (because it's a UWP app). Great for reading and also marking up PDFs.

Isnt Foxit already allowed you to do annotations?

I have use Foxit to do signature and annotations and work out OK. Not sure about mark up as I have not used it though.

    • You can import PDFs into OneNote for markup

      • i think this edit better than onenote for jsut pdf, simply because when you edit pdf on onenote, when you print it it will include the page borders

If you just need to do basic mark-up (highlights, drawing, signatures etc) you can use the Microsoft Edge browser. I've used it with both touch/pen and non-touch PCs and it works pretty well.

      • beat me to it

Side note: You can open any PDF in Microsoft Edge and click the "Add notes" button on the top right (Ctrl+Shift+M) then use your pen or mouse to mark it up then hit "save" or "save as".

      Saved my ass

  • Is it only me who sees Download PDF Essentials Free Now?

    • I think it’s free now with in app purchases?

Bought this when I bought a sp3, still use it weekly on desktop and laptop.

I've just downloaded it and wow. I have been using Acrobat Pro and its so limited for marking up so after playing around with Drawboard for 10mins it's been a revelation! Thanks OP.

Seems still more limited than many other free editors. Doesn't even allow splitting and merging pages.

    • From your personal experience, what alternative would you recommend that is free and allows splitting and merging of pages?

First thing that comes to mind: https://pdfsam.org/

Thanks, will check it out :)

Any recommendations for a free editor? (able to edit text in the pdf)
PDFsam requires payment for those features.

I got this free with my surface pro 4… dunno how but it was preinstalled so I’m surprised to learn it costs anything!

    • Same here

  • I found is the best, thanks OP for posting it came free with SP4, but had to buy for Surface laptop

This is just an ads to get you to pay in app.

  • I thought this app was free with all surface pros a while back. I have to admit I never got into using it but remember seeing it and trying it once when I bought an SP4.

  • This is a good app. Thanks

It's an amazing app, made in Melbourne with local support.

  • Thanks! I found this a decent app for my Surface Pro. Won't comment on it as a general .pdf reader. It does a lot more than that.

  • what is the best free pdf reader?
