Apparently the phone has NFC as well despite it not being listed on their site.

    • Oppo's own website says no NFC

      https://www.oppo.com/au/smartphone-a52/specs/

But apparently the phone still has it.

        See the thread below:

I have the oppo A9 and it has NFC

      • I just had a quick look at that link and it actually says that NFC: Supported…
So it appears that it is supported.

        • +3

Yet I got down voted haha

        • +2

This morning it definitely said NFC not supported

          • @His_Holiness: saw it said not supported this morning

            • @FitLineSale: I was told it shouldn't have nfc when I contacted Oppo last week (was told only overseas models have NFC), but they also assured me JB would have Australian stock. I told them about all the reviews saying it had nfc and was told it would be escalated and they would get back to me. Haven't heard back but good to see.

  • Missing NFC?

    This is RRP.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great value and I bought one last week for my daughter but this isn't a deal.

    • but for what you get its good value. Hoping to get one for parents but not showing any stock in VIC?

    • +2

Technically, it's cheaper at mobileciti - by a dollar.

  • Looking at benchmarks, this is slower than a Pixel 2

  • Dual sim or not?

  • +1

    RRP, so no deal.

local phone manufacturer…. i'm sorry, what?

      • +1

all your base are belong to us

        • I tried to give u 2 upvotes, just saying.

    • Please link me to the true blue Aussie phone you use

    • Name 17 local phone manufacturers.. I'll wait

    • I wish I could, but what do we have? Some poor rebrands of the lowest of low phone models from the telcos?

The closest Aus has to "local" are the Chinese phones.

  • +7

So you got the JB email like many and posted a deal for the RRP announcement.

    OK.

  • does anyone know if this is gorilla glass front & back?

  • anyone seen any reviews on these? Looking for a new phone for my wife, which has a decent camera and performance. All reviews i search tend to just tell me that they are on sale at JB and Officeworks.

    cheers

    • Try Samesung A51 from educational store if you have login, I think it is on special with $50

  • Looks like a good deal at $249… Right JB?

    • 199 i will splash cash on my screen. waiting for a upgrade from my galaxy S5

    • JB did it for $275 and using a suncorp 5% off gift card brings it down to $261.75

  • Considering I just bought one from MobileCiti for $268.20 delivered…..

  • Looks like a slightly updated A5 2020. Same processor, battery, dimensions. Just an extra macro lense and fingerprint sensor moved to side.

  • 5000 mAh battery is definitely a plus.

Yes, but some chips do suck way more power than others. I wouldn't call this phone extremely efficient.

The Oppo’s looking far better as the Vivo screen isn’t Full HD and the processor is an inferior Mediatek Chip.
The nearest phone for the specs including NFC is the Redmi Note 8T.
You can get this on Tobydeals at the moment for $235 but I’d be swayed to the Oppo if you prefer the 2yr local warranty,

  • I just bought this yesterday, coming from a Huawei Nova 3e with cracked screen.
It's noticably faster for 4g usb tethering - Amaysim (30mb vs 64mb, uploads oscillate around 12-15mb).

It's not a thin phone, noticably thicker and larger than Nova 3e, tho seems snappier, and quite impressed by the video quality (4k x265), which has some bokeh - which must be software based, which is seriously impressive if it's processing that realtime - I have no idea how (I'm a videographer, will spare you details, but yeah, not the usual everything-in-focus video, and not possible to get that bokeh from mobile lens/sensors).

    Nova 3e: 149mm x 71mm x 7.4mm
    Oppo a52: 162mm x 75mm x 89mm

I'd say Huawei has the edge on the screen (tho IMHO it's stoopid the hiDPI of some mobiles these days), and photos - with many more pro photo features in default app + decent software bokeh features, though the pics are better than many, and do have some manual options.

I personally prefer something smaller than this, at Nova 3e or smaller size, but this will be handed on in short orde: a stopgap before something better and my lady friend likes a larger phone.

Was happy to see, after activating developer options, that all the apps I disabled with "all in one toolbox" app, inc System apps, actually carried over and do show as "disabled" (this never worked in Nova 3e, had to disable 1 by 1 manually). So that'll make a noticable difference to snappiness/cut down on the cruft.

    • Can you explain how to perform the last part. Recently got this phone but would love to optimise it to make it less bloated and more responsive.

      • +1

Download "all in one toolbox" from play store, scroll down to "boot speedup" disable everything you don't need to launch :) .
