    hmm…. I need my chopper

  • Anyone have any idea how to do this? I am trying with a VPN but doesn't seem to work. In saying that, I am a complete noob with something like this…

    • If you aren't in LA County, it probably isn't available to you

    • The same way people get cheaper fuel via the 7/11 app - spoof your location on your phone

      • How do you do that CC123?

        • Refer to this

          • @CC123: Thanks for that, worked it out!

      • +1

        'spoof' duzn't compute w a noob!

        • Back in my day, spoof… Oh never kind…

  • +2

Title should be clearer that its limited to certain people.

  • +1

Tried all LA servers on windscribe, no dice. Curious to see who can get this to work

    • Create a VM in azure or aws? Any datacenters in LA county? There must be

      • Got it! Needed to change location services in system preferences on my mac. Logged In! Thanks OP!

        • my surfshark VPN is not working with Location Services on MAC. What did you change in location services?

          • +1

@NerdYoda: I used firefox, in my system preferences go to 'Security & Privacy' click location services, enable location services with firefox. Also test your vpn location to make sure its actually in LA.

    • Just used Windscribe on PC via Chrome browser - US West - Los Angeles - Dogg server

      woof woof ~ good boy!

      • Did the same on Mac. Couldn't confirm my location in Chrome (even though I clicked allow), and on Safari I wasn't seen to be in LA County. Worked in Opera!

    • +2

This is doing my head in!

  • +2

Spoofed my location on my phone to LA and it worked. No VPN needed.

    • How ?

      • Nox is one way. The use of 3rd party software is another (generally paid)
        This might work. Not sure

        • I confirm Nox works. I tested this a couple of weeks ago and it worked.

      • +3
        • Initially had trouble setting this up but your guide really helped.

          Cheers

        • Thanks Wally - followed your instructions and all worked out OK. Brilliant!

    • Use bluestacks instead. I find it much faster than NOX

  • +1

All of these VPNs / spoofing / etc., just to get access to a free app; is it that good?

    • +8

Yeah it's quite good. And this is OzBargain, and it's free until the end of 2020, so….

    • +4

It's premium access to a free app.

  • +7

I have signed up with this on Android.
Downloaded and isntalled "Fake GPS", set the location to LA and then followed the links and verification email.
After going to https://checkout.headspace.com/subscription/manage I can confirm I now have an active subscription.

    • Awesome, thanks and thanks OP.

    • I did the same. Towards the end of registration I got an error message saying they detected I was not in LA despite using Fake GPS. However when I check the link you mentioned it shows me with a B2B Subscription till Dec 31st 2020 so SUCCESS

  • I want this app but not sure I can be bothered doing what I need to do to ‘spoof’ my location.
    2/10 Ozbargain spirit.

    No VPN required.

Go to Developer tools if you're using a browser.

    • What do I do once Developer Tools is open? It's just showing me all the HTML code etc.
EDIT: Using Google Chrome on a Windows PC.

      • +8
        1. Click the 3 dots top right of the developer tools screen, then go down to 'more tools. Click 'Sensors'
        2. Under Geolocation, click drop down and select 'other'
        3. Then put in LA's coordinates, 34.0522 latitude, -118,2437 longitude

        Worked for me

        • +1

Thanks mate, appreciate it. I'd just figured it out and was about to post the instructions for everyone.

-Go to https://ctrlq.org/maps/address/ and search an LA address
-Drag the red icon anywhere, and the Lat and Long will appear in the box above it.
-Open Google Chrome on your device.
-Press Alt + Shift + I to access Developer Tools or click the 3 dots on upper right of browser
-Select the three-dot menu icon in the top right of the pane developer tools.
-Scroll to “More Tools” and select “Sensors.”
          -Change Geolocation to “Custom location…”
-Add the Lat and Long coordinates you copied earlier into the boxes underneath Geolocation.
          -Reload the web page.

        • Thank you, I was having trouble with LA coordinates. Worked successfully using Chrome desktop. Very easy using Chrome desktop but have done it first time. you have to set LA location before hitting the "share my location"

        • Awesome, worked for me!

  • +5

Worked for me. Used Location Guard extension for Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/location-guar…

    • Thanks for the tip!

I have not negged you. I am in AU and successfully obtained this offer. If the title would have said "LA only" I would not even bother with it and would have missed this deal.

    • read first

  • You get one year free if you are unemployed too.
Is this deal forever or 1 year?

    • +1

Until the end of the year

access Headspace Plus at no cost until December 31st, 2020.

      • Thanks mate.

  • +3

What do they say in the biz? Fake it till you make it? step 1 pretend you are in Los Angeles?

  • +5

I find it interesting how much effort people are going through to get this free app, which is usually understandable, but in this case the app has been made freely available to residents of LA County, to assist those people affected by COVID-19.
I wonder if, it were locally available but restricted to, say, health-care workers or similar, would we be going through all these steps to (what is effectively) scam the freebie?

    • +2

If you're unemployed they offer it free too and conveniently we are all unemployed right….RIGHT?

      • If people can live with that…

        • +3

Hopefully they can use Headspace to deal with the guilt :)
p.s. I'm actually unemployed due to COVID.

  • Thanks op

  • This is defrauding LA County taxpayers who are funding this support service.

    • Not necessarily

I got calm for 3 months - very happy for that.

For apple, they had yearly subscriptions for $12.99. you had to go to the subscriptions and select it from the list. Not sure if it's still available to choose. Same things for memrise ($25 or $26 yearly though)

For anyone using Chrome on computer.

If you have already gotten the message. 'You are not located in Los Angeles….' Go to Settings(3 dots on the top right corner of your browser) -> privacy and security -> Site Setting -> Location -> remove headspace from the list.

Bring up the Chrome Developer Tools by pressing the Cmd+Option+I keys on Mac, or Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows.

Click on the Kebab Menu (three vertical dots) on the top right corner of the Developer Tools window (Not the Browser menu).

Select More Tools >> Sensors to open a new Sensors tab in the Console window. Change geolocation to custom

    Enter in Latitude: 33.952682 Longitude:-118.190975

On the same tab where you did all the settings above load up the site https://work.headspace.com/lacdmhresidents/member-enroll and allow it to use location.

    • Wow. Does this work for Netflix US too?!

    • I followed all these instructions and my browser still seems to show this lat and long when I go into developer tools but it still tells me I'm not in LA

      • Nevermind, I got it.

    • Excellent instructions - thanks

Didn't work with FakeGPS on phone but did on desktop chrome

  • how does it compare to Calm?

    • I can't compare the products, but the Calm deal was sponsored by Kleenex (so the app provider received some income) and freely available locally.
That is a positive in my view.

      • calm and headspace are different, headspace is all purely guided meditations. It's more the traditional meditations that you think of and they are all different lengths. Calm has less guided meditations and includes other things like relaxing soundscapes and bedtime stories.

  • Is hard to keep meditated when l need to constantly refreshing click frenzy and check OZB LMAO!

How do we check if the subscription is until December 31st, 2020?

  • +1

Despite of VPN, there’s aren’t any chances of mobile to work as there’s still GPS location of the phone pinging.
However, I just used ‘Mac Brave Browser’ with Nord VPN and it seemed to work very well.

  • Windscribe + Chrome worked 😊

  • Thanks OP :)

  • +1

If you’re an Educator you can get a subscription for free. I just sent in proof via a payslip with some details whited out.

    • Is this lifetime?

  • I have the Calm premium app, how does Headspace compare?

    • It’s free

    • +1

Headspace has more meditations but no equivalent of the daily calm feature, and way less of the sleep stuff i.e soundscapes, music and sleep stories.

There is less diversity of narrators on Headspace and it's English accents whereas Calm is American.

If you don't already have Calm lifetime and want it you can get 60% off here: https://www.calm.com/lifetime-offer?plan=lifetime&coupon=60_…

  • Looks like my subscription signed up a day or 2 ago via this method got removed from my account. Anyone else experiencing this?

  • All good signing, verified email etc. Seem to have full access through browser, but App is still the free version? Nothing's Unlocked, how do I get Plus in app to work?

  • is this still working? with VPN in LA and chrome sensor override, i get a headspace 404 error page.

  • Works if you do everything via computer rather than iPhone. Set vpn to LA and log in/sign up on your computer. Accept email verification on your computer as well. Then refresh the app on your phone and boom, premium membership :)
