How important are OS updates? I know the Sharp Aquos S2 used to be an ozbargain favourite and its even cheaper.

It's a bit different to this one. They are not like for like.

    • +1

Sharp was a much superior product

  • +11

I would go samsung a20 with that price. Personally i am vigilant to buy Chinese brand electronic devices.

    • +12

Got a Samsung s20 when on sale for $179. It is a great phone. I personally at present prefer non Chinese goods and will do so until they stop threatening to destroy our economy (if it is not wrecked already).

      • +5

I totally agree with you. They always bully weaker ones or take advantage on ones in difficulty. We still buy made in china goods but not goods made by chinese companies.

      • +3

S20 for $179!? Deal of the year!

        • Oops a20

    • +3

I kinda got burned. Thaught i was getting a pretty good deal on a tablet. It had good specs and the price was reasonable. It worked well, but they use crappy batteries, the no name brands. That what screwed me. The battery only really lasted a year then it was cactus. Cant really replace the battery of something like that so in the bin it went.Like you say, go for brand name (samsung, LG and such. Even Sharp) rather than no name brand.

      • +1

        What tablet??

        • +1

The brand was chuwi, which was a more popular brand at that time.

          • @RandomBob84: Thanks. Just wondering how bad mine will get. Teclast. Much better than cheap local ones i have experienced.

            • +2

@Cinnamon Crunch: Yeah, it taught me specs is one thing. Quality of important parts is another, and only time will tell. Hopefully you will get longer than i did though. good luck with it.

For sure. As soon as I saw this generic random Chinese phone for only $2 less than I paid for my Samsung A20 (which had band 28 and NFC, not to mention local warranty support) I couldn't imagine why on earth anyone would buy this thing.

    • both made in china, no?

    • Hi just wondering (not the hardware) how does the UI2 compare to it's bigger brothers like the S8 upwards, as I really love the newer UI2 over the original touchwiz overlay can really customise my Note 9 with UI2 and goodlock app, shame havent got the Bixby routines like the S10 and above but im happy with Samsungs direction with one UI

  • +10

its OUKI to buy sumting else.

  • +5

Will not work 100% on all three AU networks as missing too many 3G & 4G bands.

Looks good and modern if that's what your after, move on if you want good phone/mobile data functionality.

I would be really worried, tried two Chinese brands so far, Mizo (total rubbish) and Oppo (which is supposed to be good) for the following reasons:
1-Support : not a single response from both
2-Both Kill important apps in the background (such as CCTV) even when power setting are clearly set to leave them running.
3-Mizo quality was very bad inside out
4-Oppo keeps on reverting my launcher to the default rubbish launcher (which they literally copied from Iphone)

Beware and pay a few extra bucks and get your self a Samsung, LG, Nokia…

    • +1

Older oppo ColorOS was pretty bad at shutting things down. On newer phones their Chinese roms are still way to aggressive at shutting down apps, while the same phones with international roms are better. Avoid the Chinese version.

For $180 the A20 seems like a no brainer compared to this phone.

  • Good phone for a kid, buuuut the lack of NFC is really off-putting.

  • +2

Can we neg this as not a bargain as the A20 is a better phone at this price?

    • +1

      Go for it !

      • +1

A20 is a run out out dated model with slow CPU
        many known issues
        2.2 SIM/Network problems.
        2.3 Earpiece Sounds Robotic.
        2.4 Slow Performance.
        2.5 Overheating Problems.
        2.6 Apps not working properly.
        2.7 Poor Camera Quality.
        2.8 Poor Battery Life.
        2.9 Slow Charging.

You can choose the poor quality anytime.
Not everybody needs to understand good phone.

CPU: Helio P25(Mediatek6757), Up to 2.3 GHz 900MHz
        RAM: 4GB
        ROM: 64GB
Dual SIM Dual Standby(2 Nano SIM Card or 1 Nano SIM Card + 1 TF Card )

        CPU: 1.6GHz, 1.35GHz
        RAM 3GB
        Storage 32GB
        One Sim Slot
        Screen size: 6.4"
        WIFI: 2.4G

        • Thanks Mate… I meant go for the Neg, not the phone :)

        • +1

Any phone that doesn't have NFC will struggle to sell in Australia against any other phone that Does have NFC. The Majority of Australian banks require NFC for contactless payment. This OUKITEL might have slightly better specs than the A20 but by not having NFC it is at a huge disadvantage and is therefor a worse choice. I personally would never consider a phone that doesn't have NFC.

  • +2

    That screen resolution though

  • +1

Also pretty good buying IMHO is this. Just ordered one to replace a well loved Galaxy Note 2. Also available is a larger capacity version here for not much more.

    • I like Asus and had one. The only problem I like to have bigger screen, and camera seems to be good with this one.
