Boost Mobile $150 80GB Plan Is Finishing on 30 June

I've confirmed with Boost that this popular SIM plan will be ending on 30/6.

The webpage is also displaying -

OFFER ENDS 30 JUNE 2020

Also ending on the same date is the $100 60GB 6 month SIM.

I'm not sure if you can recharge this SIM after 30 June. If you bought one to use at a later date, you might want to contact Boost to find out.

I think it can only get better from here. I got an extra 50gb this recharge. 40gb bonus, 10gb from telstra.

  • +3

And now his watch has ended.

  • +1

Damn thats sad. One can only hope there will be a better plan to replace this. This plan truly shifted gears and revitalised the competition in the mobile space.

Edit: just got this sms from boost “From 1st July $150 recharge vouchers will no longer be available. You can continue to recharge on our $150 plan using the Boost website, app or #111#. More info bst.st/010720”

    • +1

Wait what? You're saying I won't have to go back to 1GB p/m peasantry!?

  • ohhh so glad I just activated mine few days ago

what do ozbargainers think Boost will have after 30June?

  • +1

I'm not sure if you can recharge this SIM after 30 June.

Should still be able to get a sim before the deadline and activate it (with port out/in) when the current plan ends. The $150 plan sims I’ve seen have had activation days at least 2 years in the future.

  • Merged from Boost $100 and $150 Recharge Vouchers No Longer Available

just got a message from them saying its no longer available from July 1. links to this page

these vouchers were probably the most popular among ozb and we can no longer can get discounts off them : (

those who are on boost with an active voucher applied, will you stay with boost after it expires ?

  • +9

Interesting - in their FAQ, they've got a question "I already have a $150 or $100 voucher. Can I redeem it ater 1 July?", which they don't even answer.

EDIT: Seems to be a rushed update to their website - they haven't even done a grammar check or run it through the spellchecker.

Came in looking for an answer to this. How long are the vouchers we buy at woolworths valid for?

  • I think Woolworths had a similar alternative to the Boost if I'm not mistaken?

  • The sms I received this morning says,
"From 1st July $150 recharge vouchers will no longer be available. You can continue to recharge on our $150 plan using the Boost website, app or #111#. More info bst.st/010720"

  • Probably a sign of increasing their price?

  • Just in time to recharge for another $150 voucher, current one expires on 27/06/20.

  • +7

I read it as the plans will remain but you can't buy a recharge voucher. Just need to recharge online.
You won't get the discounted vouchers but the plans will still be available.

New customers will need to buy a 2 dollars sim and recharge online. Or get one of those lower value sim pack and then recharge for the 6 or 12 month plans on expiry.

    • yeah it says that recharges will still be available. just have to do it using card or paypal

  • mine expires on 7/7/2020
if i buy and recharge now, will it extend my current expiry date or will it start on the day you recharge?

    • +1

plan renews on the day you recharge.

I have bought 150 voucher from woollies and will use it in November when the plan expires.
      expiry on mine in 12/12/2021

      • 12/21 expiry is for the recharge voucher you buy at woolworths? I was planning on buying one right before they stop selling it but my plan does not expiry till Sep

      • None

      • +1

Have you called Boost about it? They told me I cannot redeem my voucher after 1 July even it’s not expired yet. They ask me to provide my voucher then they’ll suspend it but instead they’ll put $150 credit into my account so I can use it when my plan finishes (which is in September this year).

I haven’t called back just want to know if anyone else hear the same thing from them?

        • Do you want to sell your voucher?? I need a recharge by 04/06.

          • +1

@SNK: Why not just recharge through the Boost website, app or #111#?

  • +6

    The website actually says

"*$150 and $100 SIMs: Offer ends 30 June 2020 unless extended."

It appears to be talking about the SIMS not the recharges.

Seems they are herding people to recharge using a card or paypal.

Seems they wanna stop people taking advantage of specials from retailers

    • What are they losing out on vouchers sold through colesworth? Rebates and commissions?

  • I believe its for new customers only. they cant kick off existing customers like this.

    • Vouchers expire in 2021. I would be surprised If they remove the way to recharge using vouchers

  • I called Boost customer service and was told the voucher won’t be able to redeemed after 1 July, even though the voucher hasn’t expired. Has anyone called them to confirm if it’s true?

    • +3

      is that even legal?

      • +1

Well Boost staff asks me to provide my voucher then they’ll suspend it but instead they’ll put $150 credit into my account so I can use it when my plan finishes (which is in September this year).

I haven’t called back just want to know if anyone else hear the same thing from them?

        • Who did you speak to and how did you make contact with them ?

          • +1

@finbar: I rang 1258881 and talked to a girl named Maricar.

            • +1

@ytxwz34: If I get time I might call them and see what they say to me

        • +10

I just spoke to the girl at boost. $150 vouchers wont be available to purchase from shops.
if you have existing voucher, you will be able to use to recharge normally as long as the voucher is not expired.
          her name is Casie

I confirmed 3 times. she said she will send email to her team to update this

          • +1

@Ronthecrypto: else recharging that plan via $150 value will always be available from CCard

            • +1

@Ronthecrypto: thanks for update. this sounds right. i reckon "Maricar" got it wrong

              • @finbar: very true. no worries. The first thing I did is updated everyone here. even I was panicking for this issue.

                • @Ronthecrypto: Here's hoping there will be one last $135 deal from colesworth before July 1st then, need to stock a couple.

                  • +1

@vawiyoci: Highly doubt it. Better off waiting for a Flybuys deal and getting some bonus points.

          • @Ronthecrypto: Thank you. I called again another girl confirmed I can still use my voucher in September, so I assume the first staff provided wrong info.

        • I have a $150 Starter Pack rather than a voucher. Not sure if it's also valid until it's stated expiry date like the vouchers?

          • @code695: Pretty sure they will honour $150 sim starter packs just like they are the already issued/sold $150 re-charge vouchers.

  • Damn just sold a discounted voucher to a friend because I've had porting issues since Jan (never using Coles Mobile ever again!)

So buying a sim and paying boost mobile directly should work? From July onwards

  • +2

I think this is the epitome of the term 'OzBargained'

If just the Pre-loaded SIM Packs of $100 & $150 are being discontinued, but you could still buy a $2 SIM and recharge on their Website/App, then this certainly looks to be an attempt to plug retailers like Auditech, Best Deal Plaza and others on Ebay who are selling this for a lower price. I wonder how it affects Boost though. It is the commission of these retailers that's being compromised here. However, I think, that outweighs the sales Boost would have made from these other Big retailers who still sell at Full Price, like Woolies/Coles and others. If thats the case, this is a clear OzBargained case.

All existing users received a Text saying that they will still be able to recharge $150 using Boost Website and App from 01-Jul-2020. Note that their FAQ states:

Yes! The $100 and $150 recharges are still available to any Boost Anytime Plus customers who recharge using a credit/debit card or paypal on the Boost App, boost.com.au or #111#

Does this qualify new guys who buy a $2 SIM? Are they "Boost Anytime Plus customers"? Boost has never been clear on what the "Anytime Plus" Plan really means. Is there even any other plan name with Boost? In this case, it's not really a concern for Existing Customers. We should be able to recharge using Boost Website / App for $150. Just that we lose out on discounts on Paper Vouchers when Coles/Woolies run a Special, as well as those 2000 / 400 Bonus Flybuys Points that Coles gives out - I used them twice for my $150 Boost Recharges so far.

Coming to the validity of existing Paper Vouchers which do mention as 12/2021 - this is certainly best to be confirmed with Boost. I'd still suggest all those who have such vouchers, get it loaded into your Boost Account as credit for you to be able to use later. Otherwise, its a risk to lose them, sadly Boost has not clearly answered the question in the Website FAQ "I already have a $100 or $150 voucher, can I redeem it after 1 July? I hope Boost fixes it soon so that its clear on the Website. Calling the Support and getting different answers by each Representative is not helping anyone currently.

  • I have got 4 elderly parents onto this plan and now they are making it difficult to get cheap vouchers for the $150 plan.
I also noted that Kogan has also stop selling their $4.90 40g data and voice starter sim with vouchers which I am using as an alternative to joining NBN for home.
Well, at least they are not getting rid of the Boost $150 plan.
I wonder what is the next best thing if I can't get more Kogan $4.90 starter sims. I have found catch connect at $4.90 for 40g this morning.

The $150 and $300 plans are not discontinued, only the $150 and $300 SIM cards and physical vouchers. Customers can still recharge onto these plans in the standard way:

    https://boost.com.au/get-help/vouchers-faq-010720/#WHAT-RECH…

WHAT RECHAREGE VOUCHERS WILL NO LONGER BE SOLD FROM 1 JULY?
From 1 July, $150 and $100 recharge vouchers will no longer be sold. All of our other recharges will still be available as vouchers.

You can continue to recharge $150 and $100 using your credit/debit card or paypal on the Boost App, boost.com.au or #111

    • The pressing question is what about those who have purchased additional purchase vouchers (using offers / bonus points / etc.) since they "were valid" till Dec-2021. Ideally these should be usable until the expiry date mentioned on the paper voucher which is Dec-2021. However, with the recent update from Boost, everyone is worried about this and are getting conflicting replies from Boost Customer Care.

Boost's website FAQ has intentionally or unintentionally avoided the direct question in their FAQ. The response there does not make any sense w.r.t the actual question:

I ALREADY HAVE A $150 OR $100 VOUCHER. CAN I REDEEM IT ATER 1 JULY?
Transferring your number to Boost Mobile service is easy. Simply head to activate and click ‘bring my phone number.’ You do not need to contact your previous provider. We’ll sort that out with them.
Please keep your old SIM in your phone until you’ve completed the activation form. As you’ll be sent an SMS to verify you have access to the phone number that is being transferred.
Your number should be active on Boost Mobile within 4 to 24 hours after activating. If you make a request outside business hours, including Sundays and public holidays, we’ll process it on the next business day. You can still use the number with your previous provider until the switch to us is complete.
If you are porting from Telstra to Boost, you’ll need a special blank SIM. Please call 1800 100 933 and we will send one out to you.

      • where are all the conflicting replies apart from only one person (who seemed to have got it wrong) ?

    • I can verify this. I'm moving to Boost and I spoke with them on the phone today. They will still offer the $150 plan as a recharge after 30/06.

  • Curious as to what Boosttel have in store wrt data / year plan come offer 1/7, for any eager bit of notice.

boost mobile post new FAQ on 01-July-2020. for existing plan users on how to recharge without a voucher. https://boost.com.au/get-help/vouchers-FAQ-010720

  • +2

The $150 (12-month) and $100 (6-month) SIM have been removed from Boost's website as anticipated.

So, taking these plans is now possible only via Card from Boost's Website/App meaning that no further discounts will apply. $150 stays $150 now, and can't go down to $135 (Coles) or $128 (Officeworks) as we've been doing so far.

IMHO, $150 is already a great value - they plugging the SIM and Paper Vouchers, is probably just to ensure they get the full $150 at the least to be able to provide this value to users.

    • So you're saying Boost themselves were paying for those 10% discounts at colesworth?

      • They weren't. The discounts are absorbed by Coles/Woolies or the several "Best Deal Plaza / Auditech" sites that we saw. However, this would have severely impacted sales from Boost's own Website and App, which would also mean they earn something when we go via thier App (and not via third party).

Now, it will all go thru only their Website/App, so their own sales and their own internal commission will start flowing thru.

Just noted a new line on the direct page URL: https://boost.com.au/shop/150-prepaid/

    $150 PREPAID RECHARGE
80GB FOR 12 MONTHS. RECHARGE AVAILABLE TO CUSTOMERS WHO ACTIVATE BEFORE 10 AUGUST

    CURRENT CUSTOMERS:
Recharge available to customers who activate before 10 August.

Well well, so those who "activate" a Boost SIM after 10 August will not be able to recharge $150 plan, ever? Looks like Boost's prepaid plans will undergo an overhaul in August and there might be more plan names rather than the current "Boost Anytime Plus" which seems to be default for all.

    • ANYBODY know the answer?

CURRENT CUSTOMERS: Recharge available to customers who activate before 10 August.
      https://boost.com.au/shop/150-prepaid/

So, my current subscription expires in Sept. Does this mean I MUST renew now (before 10th Sept if I want to get away with another $150 year. If I do then will lose 5 weeks as renewing today restarts activation today.

IGNORE as just spotted below link to other thread, Sorry,

    • They are bringing Boost Anytime Ultra from 11 August :)

  • please could we have 10-40GB' sars-cov-2 sweetener for port in by existing starter pack customers.
Predicting August plan = $180/150GB alternatively.

  • I have a boost 80GB 365 days starter kit, not yet activated. My aldi $99 plan has not expired yet. Could I activate Boost sim and port in my Aldi number on 1 Nov 2020?

Unfortunately I only see this info today!

    • Consensus is yes. I have the same thing, an unopened $150 starter pack. I fully expect to be able to use it early next year.

  • Please see my post regarding actual expiry of the 80GB plan

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/555278

  • Hi, all.

To everyone having a $150 sim kit and wants to add in your current number, call 1800 306 013 and ask if you can convert the sim kit to credit loaded into your current number. I did get through and the customer service set my plan expiring in Oct 2021.

  • If you renew ahead of time does it still extend from the expiry or you should only renew the day before?

    • Sorry not sure but I have successfully renewed both my parent's 365d plans the day before the current plan was due to end. I didn't want to take a gamble on the very last day of the plan.
