[Refurb] 16-Inch MacBook Pro i7 9th Gen 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD / Radeon Pro $3229 Delivered (New $3,799) @ Apple Refurbished

170

Cheaper than ln28909's post at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/538965 by $10.

edit: Further info on what is renewed via Apple's website: https://www.apple.com/au/shop/refurbished/about

For what it's worth I think it's still a deal as it's from Apple themselves and their refurbished products are indistinguishable from new. Plus you can have it delivered straight to your doorstep with free delivery.

Only downside = No Wifi 6 AX

Even cheaper than buying one from the University of Melbourne education store ($3,339.6)

There's also a 1TB SSD version that comes in Silver and Space Grey for $3,739 (RRP $4,399)
16’ MacBook Pro 1TB SSD 5500M 4GB Silver $3,739 (RRP $4,399)(Back in Stock)
16’ MacBook Pro 1TB SSD 5500M 4GB Space Grey $3,739 (RRP $4,399)(Back in Stock)

Three grand on a used laptop!

    • +7

lol You get 1 year warranty as if buying new laptops from Apple. As said, their quality is indistinguishable from buying 'new' which are around $500 more mollas.

This would be great for those in need of an Apple laptop now and cannot wait for the next big sale

Apple fanbois will always be happy to pay more!
I can't believe $3229 to buy any used laptop!
Is everything renewed - keyboard, drives, screen, casing, battery, charger, ports, etc etc?

      • Is everything renewed - keyboard, drives, screen, casing, battery, charger, ports, etc etc?

Erm…no, I believe that would be referred to as ‘new’ and therefore subject to full price.

        • -3

Yep. So surely better to buy a new one for $10 more as suggested further down this thread.
All parts are then 100% - not refurbished or cleaned.
and the Apple fanbois have this years's model.
          done.

Please find the link below for your reference from "Why Apple Refurbished?" https://www.apple.com/au/shop/refurbished/about

Usually the casing and battery is renewed.

Anything broke is indeed fixed and what's not broke is unchanged.

So for $10 more, I would prefer all new parts and a factory "seal".
I guess if someone needed the shiny thing faster, they would take the refurb.

Spend $100 more and get a new one from uni edu store lolz or wait for 15% from wireless1 ebay

    • or wait for Apple cashback deal from tightarse, turns out cheaper with Uni Edu + cashback

AFAIK, 16-Inch Macbooks don't come with 10th Gen Intel Processors. It's 9th Gen.

    • Thanks, edited

  • Bit misleading putting the RRP of the brand new product in the title. This isn't brand new, it's used.

    • +2

      agreed

    • Thanks, just edited the title.

      • +4

I think leaving the RRP is ok, gives people an idea the saving vs new (granted we can look up ourselves, but it'd save us some search effort).

  • how is this a deal for a used, price match OW for $3239.72 new see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/538965

    • -2

This deal can co-exist with the deal from ln28909's OW post.

It's up to the buyer to decide between the two. More options, the better for the consumer.

Some people might not want to walk all the way to Officeworks to collect and prefer to get it delivered for free by Apple.

Besides, the quality is the same with 1 year warranty. I've even seen Dave2D from youtube recommend refurbs as well.

      • +2

True but 10 dollars more for new… I know which one I would take

    • +1

Commenters said no stock at OW if you read that deal.

      • and he/she was given a raincheck

        • +1

They didn’t let me price beat.
No stock at OW for the 1TB

  • +1

Dang, might be worth it for the 1TB. Defend discount.
I’ve been waiting for stock at centrecom and OW to match up and then price beat. But it hasn’t been good.

any downside to refurbished vs new?

  • I know the screen is great and all and I have friends who use Macbooks for design etc but are these really that great? I mean can you do the same with other machines in the same price range and get great screen + performance and portability?

    • +1

I know there are question marks there but I'm not sure what you're actually asking.

Yes they're great. Sure, you can do similar things with similar Windows machines in a similar price range. Coke vs Pepsi. Choice is a great thing. I prefer Mac OS and Pepsi Max.

      What do you prefer?

I sleep in a big bed with my wife.

Other things to keep in mind:
      1. Ease of service/support - very easy/quick to get serviced (Apple products in general). If it's a design issue, they'd support/replace it well past the warranty date. E.g. iPhone battery issue and Macbook butterfly keyboards.
      2. Resale value. 3 years down the track if you want to upgrade or move on, you'd get a big chunk of your initial outlay back. Heck, even 5-8 years secondhand Macbooks are still in demand. Not many people bother looking for other brands secondhand unless they are dirt cheap.

Seriously, this is not a deal. This is normal activity of the refurb store. Are we going to start posting every time every brand has refurbs?

And no, this is not the first time the 16 has been in the refurb store.

  • Great deal.

    • +1

Why is it a "deal" - it's literally the everyday normal price for refurbs.

Are we gonna put up deals for the dell, Hp or Lenovo refurb store every week when they re-add the same items over and over?

      • +1

        I was 107% trolling. Apologies.

To be honest, it's not a terrible deal and if there were no other options (which is true right now - this is the best deal if you want that laptop today) then it's quite useful. To help exaggerate the point, almost all 16" refurbs are now sold out again with only the 1 model/colour available. People are buying them. They're happy with the deal.

I don't believe refurbs from those other brands would garner much interest, outside of maybe some Dell Monitor refurbs.
