  • I know it has been posted before but it's a good deal.

  • I still need to pay 20 dollars memberships fee to join the club. it doesnt justify the savings.

    • Same when I looked at people buying entertainment books — but then they are not just getting savings from Coles but also many other partnered outlets. Plus you just need to spend $400/year at Coles to get that $20 back.

However we normally just go to Aldi so we get the savings up front :) There are things that can only be bought from Coles/Woolies, but I don't think they add up to an amount that is economical for us to join a reward system — for my family anyway.

      • $400 might seem a lot but with the price of petrol going up, you might need to spend $400 in a couple of months. A good thing about the Wish Gift Card is that it can be used for Caltex and BigW and stuff.

But each to their own I suppose. If you have to go out of your way to use the Coles Gift Card (Coles) or the Wish Gift Card (Woolworths, BigW, Caltex, Dan Murphy’s, Dick Smith), then there won't be too much benefit for you. But I think the two giftcards cover a wide enough of area that most people should benefit.

      • Sorry Scotty, dont agree with you on this one! $400 per year is just $7.69 p/w spend at Woolies or Coles. I spend $150 on coles a week so thats a saving of $370 per year after the $20 sign up for me. Even you Scotty im sure will spend more than $7.69 p/w after your ALDI Shop. This is a great bargain in my opinion… +1 for sure!

        • Seriously, where do all of you shop? There's only a choice of Coles or Safeway (Woolworths) in most places. I buy groceries every week, sometimes with purchased gift cards, at Coles spend about $100/wk.

So its well worth getting the gift cards but from where is another story.

        • Haven't shopped in Coles for a while since there are not one but two Aldis within 5km of where I live :) Go for it if you do prefer Coles though — it's just not for us.

          • @scotty: Ah OK. Must be bigger up in NSW, only seen a couple in VIC.

          • @scotty: Sorry Scotty, this line gave me the impression that you shopped at Coles/Woolies in conjunction with ALDI…."There are things that can only be bought from Coles/Woolies, but I don’t think they add up to an amount that is economical for us to join a reward system"…With ALDI's limited product range I end up having to do two shops ALDI/Coles. I dont know anyone that can run a household fully off a ALDI shop?

  • often with these deals you also have to pay for postage - anyone know if this is the case here?

    • Which deal are you referring to Ozpete? The only deal I know is the Entertainment book where it is 5% off at Coles with FREE registered post on the vouchers.

    • Finally registered because I can help with something. I can confirm that I have been a member of Presidential Club for a fair while (only found out about the Coles/Wish cards a few weeks back though). The postage was nothing, so I paid $190 to spend $200 (nearly the cost of a week's groceries for me) at Coles. Oh and I read up on the use of the Coles cards at www.giftcards.com.au and you can use multiple cards in one transaction or partially pay the bill with a Coles card and the remainder on EFTPOS etc. Just be mindful of the people in the queue behind when using a bunch of cards with $10 left on each.

Someone pointed out to me after I bought the 2 x $100 cards that I could have saved more if I'd bought 4 x $50 cards as there is a small additional saving due to the rounding after the 5% discount is applied.

You may also wish (no pun intended) to investigate the Wish cards before buying as I'm certain I saw at a Caltex Woolworths the other day that Wish cards were not valid for use there.

      Great deal for sure anyway!

P.S. Confirmed that not all Caltex/Woolworths can take the Wish card - check this page for participating stores - http://www.wishgiftcard.com.au/Stores/Default.asp?ID=1

      • NE1WeKnow,

You are absolutely right. When you purchase 4 x$50 you actually save $12. Go for it…

        • i still don't get it lolz

          say 4 x $50 = i save $2.5 each x 4 = $10.

where did u get the extra $2 from ???

          • @tinx: $95 for a $100 card, but $47 for a $50 card - 2 x $50 cards is $94 so it's $1 less. Not worth the embarrassment of having to possibly use 4 cards to buy groceries at the checkout though.

  • Cheaper on EBay, although don't make the mistake I did ;)

    • Do tell, Neil :)

      • See yesterday's news…

        • Am I the only one who has no idea what Neil is talking about?

          • @Max: Same here Max - please explain more Neil.

            • @JeffreyM: http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,23991359…

The website where we collected all of the details.
              http://hybriddigitals.pbwiki.com

              Bargain hunting gone wrong.

              • @neil: Gotcha. Nice photo ;)

              • @neil: Nice work!

              • @neil: wow. nice job mate!

how he could open a bank acc with fake address ???

                • @tinx: It wasn't a fake address on the bank records but it was a fake name and address on EBay.

All we had was the company name, which provided little help. It wasn't until we received information that showed that Hybrid Digitals was owned/operated/whatever by Tim Tsang that we could find out tons of info via Google, Facebook, Linked In and various other sites.

  • Hey Ozpete,

The Wish Gift Cards and Coles Cards come to you via registered post with postage included. $95 is what you pay per card. That's it. We also have the $250 card if you like larger denominatons - its $237 for $250 and that's delivered to you.

That's only a couple of the 17,000 benefits we have in Presidential card. As a member you can choose from wine deals (about 60% off), dining (buy one get one free), car hire (25% off),Movie tickets (35% off) and lots more.

  • I get 5% off via work on these cards. So its the same thing. It's handy and great.
Can use the Wish Cards at Dick Smith and instead of buying food I seem to be spending my cards at DSE.

    • Want to make some extra cash?

  • Just tried the code on the sign-up page - doesn't work.

    • JefferyM apologies if the coupon code was confusing. The code is Oz and you should be through to the $19.95 price. Cheers

      • That's fine - all fixed now.

  • it's good that they give you discount at Dan murphy.
my staff discount card doesnt apply to Dan Murphy but I can save 4c/litre anYtime i want to refill the petrol.

    • why not sign up to the presy card, get a wish card and use that at 6% off of your fuel + get 4c off a litre? NOW thats a bargain

  • Just a warning on these cards that I learnt through experience!

    1. Treat them like cash - hence if you lose your wallet, the cards cannot be replaced. Would you carry $250+ in cash in your wallet? I wouldn't.

    2. They have an expiry date - From about 12 months from purchase the card expires. This is a big deal if you buy in bulk or move away from Coles/Woolies.

    3. They bind you to one retailer - The difference between this and cash is that the bind you to one retailer. Their prices might not be so good but if you have tonnes of vouchers to go through, you don't care.

Summary: Gift vouchers/cards are good mainly for the retailer selling them. 5% discount is pretty meagre when all of the above risks are considered.

    • I have been using Coles gift cards for about 6 months and i think they are a fantastic way to save some coin. I usually stock up on special items at Coles that i know im going to use and when i run dry they usually are on special again.

WaywardOne. As an experienced user of the scheme also here is my response to your statements…

      1. I take only the amount of voucher value with me to Coles that I need. $150 covers me and I leave any others at home. Same idea for Dicksmith etc. I agree dont not store them in your wallet. There is no need to keep 250+ on you at any time. Unlike Westfield cards the funds are not retrievable.

      2. Yep they have a 12 month expiry. Buy in small quantities (I buy in $500 lots) and DO SOME RESEARCH in the area your moving to. If there is no Woolies/Coles use up the vouchers before you leave stock up on non-perishable products or sell them to friends/family.

      3. If your closest supermarket is Woolies/Coles the chances are you will shop at woolies/Coles. So it doesnt matter if you get "binded" to a particular retailer

5% is a GREAT discount on something like groceries that your going to buy anyways

  • The concern I have here is that will this deal with Woolies expire?

Works well for me, I can use this, then use my 5% staff card ;)

  • I think the Union Shopper also sells the Coles/Woolies cards @ 5% off. As stated, being able to get 5% off groceries is a boon for any/everyone. My only reservation is that you're spending the cash BEFORE you get the goods - great for the retailer!! I went to monthly pay several years ago, and since then we buy EVERYTHING on the credit card, pay the total balance each month (no interest payment), and earn bulk bank loyalty points (worth $100+ p.a. "rewards" on groceries alone). You'd save much more @ 5% off "gift" cards though!

    Cheers,
Live Long & Save Anyway You Can.
    [ :- { )

    • Buy the gift cards on credit like me and it's just a 2 week time difference in the credit you'd spend at Coles/Woolies anyway…

      • Sounds like a win/win then…

        Cheers,
        Live Long and Prosper.

  • thanks for the clarification here - some groups like API do charge for postage, so this makes this a good deal
