    • Where can you get this cheaper right now? Also it doesn't matter because the preorder price guarantee will match it anyway if it drops.

    • Include more DLC…?

  • +2

The game isn't out yet, and it's already on sale?!

    • +1

Games are usually this price at launch at Amazon and JB.

  • Why must games be released on a Friday?? I have to pass, don't want to risk it not coming and missing the weekend.

    • They usually come in on a Wednesday Pre-covid shipping delays.

Check your preferred store on Thursday, or the day before and they may have stock and won't think to hold inventory back for embargo / publisher launch windows.

    • Why are people worried about the specific day a singleplayer game releases? You could play it next year, it'd be the same game. Probably actually better due to patches.

    • You get a credit if they miss your delivery date. Also Amazon delivers on Saturdays if the Friday is missed.

  • +2

Had to really skim the comments out of fear of spoilers. As much as I want to save money by pre-ordering, the last time I bought an unreviewed game with so much controversy surrounding it was Mass Effect 3. Hopefully the haters are wrong and it is excellent, but having learned my lesson I will wait for reviews, even though paying that extra $20 hurts.

    • +1

I'd expect deals within a few days to push $90, then land around $59, and in 2 weeks, $39 and below. JB might undercut soon enough.

While it could be $99 Doom Eternal pricing, it shifted below $60 if you were lucky… I believe it's more likely akin to Fallout 76 pricing if you remember the yo-yo of people and prices shifting, lots of screaming and so on and the drop from $79 to $39 to $19 and below each week people were exchanging copies at EB and other stores for credit.

As for the price drops to Anthem levela, I don't expect right away. Wait for the returns and eBay / Facebook sales.

I wont spoil things, but you can read between the lines that it's not the same story, and characters.

I've only just opened my PS4 after it was sitting unboxed for more than a year. I started playing TLOU, and it's OK so far, but I hope it gets better. My impression though is that Sony is becoming more and more political. First they started censoring games in Japan because the feminists in the West were making noises. TLOU2 looks like it's going to be an SJW agenda driven mess. I heard Horizon Zero Dawn also has elements of being similarly agenda driven but in a more subtle way.

That's the reason I love the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy. A strong female lead without pushing an agenda.

    • +1

It's more political, due to the move for SCE, and SNIE a few years ago during the Sony Email hacks as well, to form Sony Interactive Entertainment, SIE in San Mateo. California next to Sony Pictures, which handles the movies and licensing.

A lot of the management teams and lawyers are California-Based and deal with Sony Pictures for Movies, so there's inevitably crossover.

There was a plan for Sony Interactive to be combined with Sony Pictures for licensing deals, and studio interaction but it's likely that the Fox/Disney deal and the financial crash of Sony Pictures got in the way in that period too.

In 2021, they're also planning to change things around again… for their exclusive PlayStation titles for the PS5, from SIE Worldwide to PlayStation Studios in 2021, which will have their big name studios like Sucker Punch, Insomniac games, Media molecule, Guerilla games and Naughty Dog, etc.

Sony Interactive Entertainment in San Mateo, is home to both SIE and SIE Worldwide Developers, to be closer to Sony Pictures and SIE San Mateo, but also studios like Sucker Punch and Naughty Dog etc. in nearby San Diego, Burbank and LA among other studios.

The fallout from the consolidation back in 2015-16 or so, is that a lot of big decisions rely on the US side, even though development is done in Asia for the Asian markets, a good deal of PR decisions are made in LA/ San Mateo for the Japanese PS4 market due to the legal and HQ being US based. Even though Tokyo runs the show normally.

How it actually works, is a bit more confusing as SIE job titles also change hands too.

      • I don't think it is actually Sony pushing to become more political. Sony basically give their first party developers complete freedom. Some of their first party developers decided to make games the certain way.

Most of their studios are not pushing anything political. Spiderman, God of War, Days Gone, and the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima, I don't really see any political views in there. I am not sure about what other people are referring to on Horizon Zero Dawn. Uncharted 4 seems okay, though I know a right wing person is really pissed about it.

Gears 5, we have a female lead. That's fine. However, I find the Gears 4, 5 story arc so far being disappointing. Gears 5 is better than 4 though.

Neil Druckmann is the VP at Naughty Dog. Due to the success of TLOU and Uncharted 4, he pretty much has the full control on TLOU2.

I think TLOU2 leak issue was blown out of proportion a bit. Yes, the company Sony employed to get rid of the leak went overboard. However, you cannot help about think that a lot of youTubers are angry because of the $$$. Honestly, we are not that gullible all those youTubers are ONLY having our best interest in mind. There is money involved.

If TLOU2 story is going to be what the leak indicated, then it is quite disappointing. Part of what made TLOU(1) great was that ending. It's hard to continue that wave well and TLOU2 obviously need to deal with it. If Neil and the other writer did what the leak indicated, then they simply lack originality. All the wait, for that? No amount of SJW or awesome graphics can change the game.

        • +2

Funny thing is with Mr Druckman, he's done a Johnson (or for the female version a Larson)… Talks up diversity and being an ally and changing things… yet pushed out someone diverse to do it.

It was long suspected and recently proven that his antics are what caused award winning creator amy henning to leave naughty dog…

It's always interesting when these people want to play up their political views, they're always first to preach, use and abuse power and justify their position based on their political views.

Yet when it comes to actually living their creed, how many of them step aside to help someone up they're claiming to help?

(lets be honest, after seeing Amy's character, I doubt she would have taken it, she's made it quite clear she's capable of standing on her own merit).

          • @typhoonadventure: I am interested to know the actual story behind Amy Hennig's departure. Also, her version of the Uncharted 4 story. You do wonder why the whole story was re-written. Uncharted 4 feels different. However, given that Neil would have dropped TLOU2 development in order to take on Uncharted 4, I don't think Neil was cause of Amy's departure. Even with the re-write, the core idea (Nathan's Drake's brother) remains. Amy gave Neil full credit on a key part of Uncharted 2 in a recent youTube video. She also mentioned she did have to pull back on some of Neil's ideas as on occasions they can be too dark. Troy Baker wasn't surprised at all.

I think people are over-analysing it too much. Yes, you can say TLOU2 is pushing some left wing agenda. However, by doing this, a significant portion of people won't play this. Also, good luck having this game approved in certain regions (i.e. middle east). The biggest shocker would be that if Neil were to go to that extreme, if the leak were true, the core story would be a huge let down.

It is worrying the way Troy Baker talked about the leak. It's a real irony that the most recent excuse to delay TLOU2 was they want to ensure everyone gets to play it at the same time so the story won't be spoiled. Then, within a few weeks a huge spoiler went out. It's hard to top TLOU on the story level as that ending, while a smart move, is something TLOU2 has to deal with. Dealing it with a simple outcome will be a big disappointment and ruin the whole series.

    • +2

      Looooooooooooooooooool

    • -3

Not sure you said the word "agenda" enough

      Want to try again?
      You (profanity) retard

  • +5

I'll pass on this, rather play Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf on Steam.

  • +2

I'll wait for the PS5 remaster!

    • +1. Loved the first one but yup will wait for PS5 version!

  • -1

never bought a game near launch, but definitely will after reading this thread

any computer game that has any sort of storyline or context has an "agenda". That's every game. This one just doesn't conform to some of your sensitivities, nothing deeper

    • +3

That's a really weird way to look at things, and you realize that a lot of marketing is playing to this angle?

We're framing discourse on this title as us vs them, you aren't them are you? THEN YOU HAVE TO BUY OUR GAME OR YOU ARE THEM.

We aren't going to openly say this but we want to give you the smug satisfaction of thinking you stuck it to THEM.

      Marketting 101.

    • I don't get why so many people talked about the heavy left wing feel / agenda. Based on the leak, the REAL issue for most people has nothing to do with that. If the story is mostly what the leak indicated, then it is going to be one of the most awful sequels from a story level.

A person, who claimed to know about TLOU2 indicated, the ending the leak mentioned is incorrect. However, even that doesn't matter, if early in TLOU2 story, that event actually happens (and like that - spoiler alert: golf), that's just bad, lazy writing.

Honestly, if the leak is correct, I am definitely going to save money and time. Hopefully, the leak is just a load of ****, but doesn't look good so far.

The game reviews should be out 1 week before the actual game is available for general public. Reviewers have started playing the game.

      • review average of 94%, universal critical acclaim, amazing sales numbers, and an amazing game. hope you didn't miss out

  • Are there any sites that sell digital edition by any chance? Other than the PS store of course, if they're cheaper.

  • Cancelled my pre-order. Have been holding on to my PS4 Pro just for this game. Rather sell it now for a good price and then get the game (if it turns out to be good) for cheaper when I get myself the PS5

  • +4

Gosh I am glad I found out about the leak and controversies. Cancelled my preorder. I just don’t see how they will justify the stories that got leaked.. thoroughly disappointed with the approach they have taken.

    • I get that if it is actually like the leak, then there is no point playing. However, something doesn't quite add up.

      • We were told we will be playing the game as Ellie for most of TLOU2 2 years back. So, that is no longer the case?
      • Troy Baker, the actor who plays Joel, indicated when he Neil (the writer / director) briefed him about the story for TLOU2, he said we will get to find out a lot more about both Joel and Ellie. Again, it was 2 years ago. That also got changed?

Hopefully, the reviews 1 week before launch will clear things out a bit. They obviously cannot spoil the story, but if they can at least let us whether to avoid reading the leak or the leak is completely wrong, that would certainly help.

    • you missed out

      • -1

        Don’t think so buddy.

        • -1

94/100 metacritic disagrees with you, sucks to have missed out on such an experience. easily the best game i've played since God of War

          • -1

@[Deactivated]: Lol 5/10 user reviews say otherwise. Glad you enjoyed the game, I’ve seen the entire game play and that was enough from me. You go preach your experience.

            • @lookingforTV:

              seen the entire game play

reminds me of the the painting I read about the other day…it was terrible

                • -1

@lookingforTV: Should I have said I heard a movie? What would make more sense to an incel?

I don't understand how buying and enjoying a sequel to a great game makes me a sheep, but deciding to avoid it and piss and moan about it because someone told you "dead smuggler = bad game" makes you the free-thinker, this is some Trumpian logic…and we're Australian! I feel sorry for you, not experiencing the best video game story ever written.

Hopefully you enjoy Part 3, and hopefully this time Ellie finally gets killed off so Abby can fully take the reigns. I'm sure Druckmann will nail it again.

And fyi I came back to the post to thank the guy for letting me know people would likely spoil it, thank god I got to experience it by actually playing it without anyone else's negative influence telling me exactly how to think, or be scared of tHe LeFtIsT AgEnDa.

I'll be purchasing this game day one, June 19 without a doubt. The first game was such a revolutionary experience for me and I enjoyed it across two console generations. Without a doubt there will be a PS5 release for this game and I'll pick that up too. Enjoy a game for what it is, don't get too caught up by the politics and just have fun. Stay safe out there gamers. :)

  • +2

5000 friends and I already cancelled our preorders after the leaks.

Will get the Ps5 and the PS6 versions of this game.

    • +1

Assuming there is going to be a PS5 version, how do you expect it to be different? Remove golf element and replace it with hockey or baseball?

  • +3

Any idea what's happening to pre orders from Amazon? Mine still shows delivery date pending

    • +1

      Mine is the same

      • +2

Same, emailed them and they said they'd let shipping team know and credited me $10 but didn't give me a date.

    • +1

Mine just changed to "Arriving 22 June - 23 June"

      1. I pre-ordered it on 5th May
      2. I live 10 mins away from Amazon Factory in Dandenong
      3. I usually get shipped items from Amazon overnight

It might mean they aren't shipping till Fri-Sat.

  • +1

I live in FNQ, Mine says 'Arriving June 24 - 26' and hasn't shipped yet..
I just canceled the order and I'll buy it locally tomorrow.

  • +3

I pre-ordered in October. Shipping just updated to say arriving on Tuesday. Considering cancelling and picking up from JB tomorrow, but not sure if it's normal for Amazon to under promise delivery on pre-orders.

  • +1

Got into a mini argument with Amazon as they said it was never going to be shipped by release date and it was shipping after release date.

I mentioned that all competitors with their online stores aim to ship it and have it received by the release date. I then told the customer support dude to expect a slew of cancellations and to pass my feedback on to the customer support team. The customer support guy then told me that I was the first cancellation he's had in the 4 hours.

He said I was misunderstanding and it was never promised to be shipped by release date.

Anywho, cancelled my order and off to Harvey Norman or Big W tomorrow morning.

    1stWorldProblems

    • I cancelled my order shortly after my post above, pre-ordered for pick up with JB tomorrow. I got similar response from Amazon but I wasn't interested in arguing about it… I felt kind of guilty being annoyed about it, knowing this is the most 1st world a problem can get!

  • +2

So it seems I'm not the only one. I pre-ordered in October yet today the day before release there's no shipping notice, no tracking. The estimate is Tuesday delivery which is 4 days late. I've been given a +1 month Prime membership bump but my concern is there's no point ordering videogames from them if they don't arrive on time.

@turna: re 'it was never promised to be shipped by release date.' that's absolutely wrong. Per https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/help/customer/display.html?node… it states: "Release Day Delivery is available to eligible areas by Expedited Delivery, as long as the order is placed by the pre-order cutoff date. Choose Expedited Delivery to get it by the release date. Orders with Priority delivery or Residential Express Delivery won't arrive by the release date."

In simple terms that means if you pre-ordered this game with Expedited Shipping (comes free with Amazon Prime membership), it should have arrived tomorrow. We should expect better from Amazon per their promise.

    • I was positive there was some guarantee for launch day delivery when I ordered in October, but of course nothing on the product page about that now. Thanks for sharing the link, at least I know I'm not going crazy.

  • Mine says arriving tomorrow. Hopefully it does. If not, cancelling and getting it locally.

    • Just got an email saying it’s been dispatched! Yayyyy! Also got the code for the pre-order DLCs.

      • Still showing as tomorrow for delivery date?

        • Yep, before 8 pm tomorrow.
I have prime with expedited shipping. Also being in Sydney probably helps.

          • @RocketJack: yeh i'm within 20km of Sydney CBD and had estimated delivery for Tuesday before I cancelled.

            • @chriise: Then as someone said above, it all depends on the shipping method selected.

  • +1

God dammit. Pre-ordered this last October. I got RE3 Remake three days early a few months months back so I had high hopes for this one too. Just got an email saying my order had been shipped by Amazon (via Australia Post) and the delivery is estimated for Tuesday. FFS.

    • I got the same :(

  • Arriving Monday. FFS

  • Mine was shipped at 5:28pm from Dandenong South VIC, arriving Monday supposedly but I'm in VIC Metro so it'll probably arrive tomorrow. I did talked to live chat team, they promised to provide credit if it doesn't get delivered tomorrow.

    • That's what I'm hoping as well. But on live chat at the moment just in case.

    • What credit did you get promised ? Mine was +1 month Prime membership — mindful I had $5 pre order bonus discount, I guess it’s not bad?

      • I got $10 credit after complaining fairly heavily. I also had the $5 pre-order bonus… And it's now onboard with Auspost for delivery today, so all in all I can't complain.

  • Cancelled mine today after a conversation with customer service saying there was a high possibility it would be delivered on Monday.

    • Funnily enough there is a pre-order option and "Express Delivery" for $10 showing up for me that would get it to me tomorrow.

I spoke to chat and they gave me a $10 discount but I'll still be annoyed if it doesn't arrive tomorrow. I might end up buying a copy in the morning from JB and just return the amazon copy.

I've pre-ordered two games from Amazon, the other being Red Dead 2 and sure enough the exact same thing happened that time around.

On my chat I was told "we shipped it by standard aus post" which I complained about as it was supposed to be expedited shipping and then he replied saying "I've just spoken to Aus Post and they will do their best to get it to you tomorrow"…… yeah sure you did.

  • Realised I wasn’t getting it by release date. Just cancelled this order too

  • I’m pretty upset about this. Midnight and still no shipping confirmation, no tracking. It still states Tuesday delivery estimate. I live in South Yarra for context. I’m happy for you folks who managed to get confirmation but feels crappy to get the short end of the stick!

I also had a polite but stern word to the customer service officer that instead of customers finding out the hard way it’s not being delivered on time, that instead they’d do better to proactively alert and notify customers there’s a hiccup.

What’s the point of having a delivery guarantee if it’s not met? I really don’t know how they can blame coronavirus on this one, and even Sony took precautions having pushed back the release date.

Update: I’ve received my pre-order bonus DLC code. Half tempted to cancel now out of frustration — I’ve got a $100 JB HiFi gift card burning my wallet that’s due to be consumed.

    • It still states Tuesday delivery estimate

I’ve got a $100 JB HiFi gift card burning my wallet that’s due to be consumed

Seems like a no brainer. Hope you made the right decision!

  • I've got my copy. Giving my local some love!

Same issue as people above. I called Amazon and they said that I'd only selected "Standard shipping" not Expedited, despite my order confirmation in October saying "expedited shipping".
They gave me $5 credit, so it ends up being $58 delivered. I'll deal with not being able to play this weekend.

    • Yeah, I just got a $5 credit as well but it doesn't feel like adequate compensation for not being able to play this weekend. I'm still tempted to cancel the order.

      • Mine's shipped. I could buy from JB/EB and return the amazon one when it comes, but oh well.

    • +1

Amazon AU offered $20 credit and upgrade to expedited delivery (but due Mon/Tue). I'm still canceling order and getting local. I've done Day-1 releases with Amazon AU 2 or 3 times before, but never again after this. Good luck to everyone else.

      • +1

@poshjimmyxo can you share more about your conversation that led to a $20 credit? keen to get the same level of service.

Also did that credit hit your account yet or was it promised ambigiously? My history with Amazon is they'll promise to credit but I have to hound to ensure it gets done.

        • It was online chat. I didn't say much - just that I expected a Day-1 delivery and that I'm interested in a refund. I let him do the talking and he just offered it. I accepted, thought about it overnight, and decided I'd rather play Day-1 and got back online for a refund.

The $20 was to be used on another purchase (like a voucher) not a deduction on the purchase or a refunded credit. It still applies automatically when I cart an item now…

        • i just had a chat with the online chat. mine still hasn't shipped and they said its still in the process of being shipped. no credit offered. will be cancelling the order.

    • +1

@theguyrules one way to check if you truly 'selected' Standard shipping, go into the Order itself and select Invoice. In the invoice, it will state the option selected.

That said, it's clearly obvious it's bullshit whether it's standard or expedited effecting shipping time - the fact is they are not shipping them yesterday or today to all customers (I still have yet to receive any shipping or tracking notification and mine is definitely Expediated).

      • Yep, definitely expedited in there. Not sure why they'd lie to us. If they express posted the game yesterday I'd have it today. But they didnt even do that.

        • +3

this is what I find most outrageous.

          if Amazon simply:
          1. told customers immediately once they realised it wouldn't ship on release date,
          2. were transparent that it was an unusual, unexpected delay for X reasons, providing assurance that were aren't forgotten so that we know pre-orders should expect to be in-hand on release date going forward
          3. not lie to customers that shipping was not delayed, that this was not a Release Date promise, or that they have the wrong shipping type, etc.
          4. not continue to state on the product page up to midnight that it's a release date promise, which was evidently not true!

we'd all feel a lot better. also some consistency on the credits would be nice too!

  • Update: Ordered on the 29th of May (Expedited Delivery). Processed and shipped on Thursday (yesterday). Out for Delivery today. Received DLC Code via email yesterday. Item arrived just now. Anyone received there's today?

    • Mine just arrived as well. So hyped!

    • Update 1pm: Still no tracking, shipping, no contact. So I contacted Amazon support again, ranted about why no update. Received an additional $10 credit on top of yesterday's +1 Prime month. Commitment made to update me in the next 24-48 hours.

Concerningly I was informed I cannot cancel my order as it's pending shipment status (there's also no UI element to do so myself). Which is a pretty weird relationship to have with a customer — they'd prefer I can't escape the order and comp me.

I'll wait until Sunday and fire off another contact support, hopefully get another $10 each time they continue to break their promise.

      • How did you manage to swing a credit? The live chat I agent I spoke to was adamant that release date delivery was never promised (I'm sure it was when I ordered it) and I couldn't do anything about it (and that it would be delivered Monday). They said I couldn't cancel either.

EDIT: Thanks to your helpful earlier comments I was able to get a credit equal to 10% of my order, so $7. Heck I'll take it (it was already $5 off as I pre-ordered in October).

  • I had a whinge on chat as well. They gave me $20 credit.

    • I contacted live chat and they just said that release date delivery was never promised. They didn't give me a credit :(

EDIT: I went and live chatted again and mentioned what tommypickles commented earlier (thanks tommypickles!) about the Expedited delivery and they gave me a 10% credit.

      • +1

So what I’ve found with Amazon is, prepare your points best to be direct. I said what I want or need is the item immediately delivered and compensation for the delay.

Given it’s a chat window you don’t need to mince with words, just be assured and state reasons why you’re disappointed. per above posts, lots of evidence to point out the logic of why they’re in the wrong and an apology won’t cut it.

Be sure too to ask explicitly how you’ll be compensated and the process. I’ve had an operator make verbal commitment but then not actually pass credit in the past, which is why I always log my chat and ask explicitly if when to expect funds or coupon in account.

  • Guys, they said they gifted me $20 credit. How do I check this?

    Thanks in advance.

    • +1

Add something to your cart. When you go to check out it should show the promo credit.

  • +1

I was given a $15 credit and an extra free month of Prime. I would have preferred to have the game on release day, but some kind of compensation is better than nothing. Thanks for the suggestion to contact live chat and the advice about being direct.

  • Still not delivered today. Went to Amazon again and they gave me another $10 credit. Hope it stacks with the last one!

  • Yeah, mine wasn't delivered today either, despite speaking to Amazon this morning and they assured me it'd be here by 5pm. Don't pre-order with Amazon.

    • +1

Yep, definitely learnt my lesson here.

    • Still haven’t received my pre-ordered copy. They insist it will arrive tomorrow. Got a $10 promotional credit for raising the issue. If I still don’t get it by tomorrow they said they’d offer a full refund and cancel the order. First and last time. Will not be pre-ordering another game from Amazon.

      • Didn’t receive the order today. AusPost said order was delivered but nowhere to be found on-premise. Reached out to Amazon support and quoted the conversation from the day before and they issued a full refund to my CC. Raised an enquiry with AusPost as well so they know it’s missing. Has been fun pre-ordering from Amazon.

  • +1

    Got mine delivered today (Brisbane).

  • Damn, wish I had ordered through amazon for all this credit they are throwing out. My $49 from the Gamesmen still isn't here (Vic) and seems the price would have been the same or less from Amazon after all the credit.

  • My order just arrived. Got $15 credit for complaining.
