I'd agree with this. Gameplay was decent enough but really the reason for being there was the amazing story and characters.

A good game would have me saying something like 'I enjoyed the hell out of that'. TLOU had me saying then (and still now) 'I felt the hell out of that'.

    • I thought the opening sequence was pretty amazing. Loved the game. Won't be getting this one just yet as I have so many to play.

    • +2

I agree 100% with you, the gameplay itself is meh. I still find the overall game fantastic though. This and Life is Strange are my all-time favourite games.

    • Hard agree

    • I agree with you. I got about halfway through and gave up. Didn’t really like the gameplay or the story.
Probably one of the most overrated games of all time.

    • I played half way through and then dropped off. It could be because of zombies i guess. Not a fan of horror games. Having said that, characters and environment were top notch.

    • I found it slow and a little bit boring at the beginning, but once I finished I think it is an excellent game, for me it was a 9/10 game.

Instead, I didn't like Zelda BOTW, yeah I know: Profanity!!

    • I think there are certainly similar games that have better gameplay (especially in the PS4/Switch/Xbox one generation) but the story and atmosphere elevated it enormously for me.

    • I'm playing the first one right now. I've still only played a couple of hours, but so far, I'd say it's just OK. Nothing really special about the gameplay. Hopefully it gets better. I realise it's originally a PS3 game, but it's not much of a remaster in the graphics department either. Somewhat dated visuals. In contrast, something like the Tomb Rader Definitive Edition holds up real well.

Oh, and my first impressions of Ellie is that she's a little shit with that mouth of hers.

    • I’d definitely give the game 10/10. For me personally the storyline and graphics itself is enough to justify that. The gameplay mechanics were adequate imo for what was capable to do in the game. Got the picture book edition back then and will be getting ce this time.

      Easy now…

    Potential GOTY right here

  • +10

As someone who worked at EB Games for 5 years I've no idea at all why anyone would pre-order from anywhere but Amazon. You don't need to leave your house, it comes to your door on release day, and is over 30% off on the very first day of release.

    • +8

this may be true pre-covid, however I've noticed significant delays with Amazon lately. I've had orders placed which haven't been shipped until a week later, added on top of Australia post's own delays.

Normally I wouldn't hesitate buying this from amazon, however if I want to get this on release day I might need to visit a bricks and mortar store to pick it up.

      • Agreed, I usually receive prior to release day too. So ordered away.

      • Must depend on location. I got next day delivery with them last week.

        • South Australia, I've been reading that people in NSW are getting stuff quickly. But it seems like people in states other than where the Amazon DC is are being affected.

      • I pre-ordered Nioh 2, RE3make, and FFVII Remake and they all arrived on or before launch day. Never had a problem with Amazon pre-orders.

    • +5

      Some more benefits you missed:
      - You don't get charged until the game is shipped
      - It is really easy to cancel your order if you ever change your mind
      - Pre-order price guarantee

Really all retailers should be following this.

I personally have not any issues with delivery times. It seems Amazon has been delivering packages themselves lately and relying less on Auspost (which is how they can deliver on Saturdays)

    • +2

The price on Amazon is due to competition, something to keep in mind I guess.

The allure of free postage is pretty hard to resist but I still do quite often, if Amazon runs the competition out of business (or at least out of video game sales), then you'll just be paying Amazon RRP, maybe $5 off for a pre-order.

It's great short-term to get the benefits but awful long-term to reduce our buying options.

Admittedly, in the immediate short-term, covid gives Amazon a sizeable advantage.

    • +1

Good to know. Never pre-ordered, was wondering how fast it was delivered.

    • +1

      Also:
      - Best Customer Service in Australia.
      - Fast Delivery and delivery is fast (at least in Sydney).

    • Is it possible to price match at EB? I recalled for the RDR2 launch day deal (trade in 2 games + pay $29), on the receipt, it says price match JB Hi Fi and then apply the trade in credits.

  • Anyone have any idea if Amazon are going to do that $5 off prime game preorders again?

    • +1

      No

    • Some people have been using the APPONLY10 discount when buying items from the amazon app for $10 off recently.

  • +14

    Joel in one!

  • +1

was going to jump on this but have decided to wait to see what competition does

    • Amazon usually price matches them and you get the lowest price locked in even if you have pre-purchased and money doesn't come out until it is sent.

    • +2

I learned my lesson from Anthem and Mass Effect Andromeda, that it's impractical to be enamoured by prestige and the hype.

I have seen the trailers, memes and the leaks, it seems like a cookie cutter sequel. The price will drop below $30 sooner than later, much like Anthem has been forgotten and bargain bin'd within a month.

If you enjoy TLOU, this might be awesome. But the trailer didn't impress me more than A Plague Tale Innocence did, and that wasn't AAA produced.

      • +2

        Cool Story Bro!!

      • +3

        Lol
        You learned your lesson?
2 games from the same company, 2 years apart, after same company hasn't released a good game since 2011?

        Nothing gets past you!

  • +13

Hard pass on that one. Don't need video games to push their ridiculous agenda on me. Will wait for Ghost of Tsushima instead.

    • +4

Yeah, I loved the first game, not so sure about this one. it's gone woke.

    • +1

      Whats the ridiculous agenda?

      • +2

Main character is gay and I don't need politics in my game! /s

        • +5

Nice try I guess, but not even close.

          • @bert-lifts: What is it then

            • +2

@ScruffTheJanitor: Obviously I can't elaborate due to spoilers. I don't think anyone who was rational had an issue with ellie being gay. But they've gone far beyond that now with the sequel.

  • Good deal, although I still plan to pick up my copy from JB on the morning of the 19th for a dollar extra (got birthday vouchers)

  • Do y'all think this will arrive on release date? My recent Amazon orders (since covid) have been at least 1-3 days delayed, even with expedited delivery.

  • Any idea on release date yet? Just back into playing PS4 due to the whole iso thing played though God of War 3, Horizon Zero Dawn and am playing through the latest GOW now. Will probably replay TLOU next (had it on ps3). Any other games worth looking out for?

    • Give that Days Gone a crack

    • -5

Spider-Man. Not into comics or even marvel, but that is a great game.
Could possibly be free on PSN next month.

Uncharted and Tombraider, if you have not played them.

Can’t wait for Horizon Zero Dawn 2

  • +12

All the best to people who want to play.

I for one wont buying on release due to the recent leaks. The thing that put me off most, as a fan of the first game, was the gross mistreatment of the main characters. I wont go into detail as to not spoil it but once i found out the direction ND took and how it was such a departure from the first game, it completely put me off this game.

I'll wait for reviewers I can trust before considering a purchase.

    • +7

it's sad in this day and age that not liking a story direction, negative character development and complete contempt for the fans is seen as evidence of wrongthink.

Toxic people like Anita S set the movement they claim to be fighting for back generations and create new enemies, allowing them to be involved in game development and turning it into agenda and politics first over substance is just saddening.

I'm still going to be playing this game, but i'm not buying it at launch, naughty dog's political choices are one thing but to then abuse your followers over not giving blind support is another, then the whole claiming it was a hacker (The field I work in we call this the "shaggy" defense for a reason) still comes across as complete BS, how they've tried to silence any conversation on the themes of the game or choice of direction without spoilers, yet they're using copyright strikes…. this is another on a new level.

This isn't even covering the crunch and abuse of it's own staff.

To see Mr Druckman claiming he's out there fighting for equal rights and wants to "P/O" certain people who's values he disagrees with but wants to "school" them, and that he hasn't been mistreating the staff there and then follows up with a brag post about how someone working there voiced logical discourse that many other people thought about a particular scene in uncharted 4, he decided to interpret as misogyny and promptly abused the staff member and fired them.

This is why a lot of this political crap can get very toxic and dangerous quick, people have no idea how to disagree with anyone anymore.

In my field we have a training course that many people want removed, it teaches representation and interpretation, not in what a lot of modern keyboard warriors and political interests see it.

If anyone gives a statement in uniform, under a unit on representation, you are representing interests, as soon as you give any expression, you are now taken as an authority on it, with influence, backing and expertise.

A lot of people don't understand this and how far it goes.

That's boiling it down to a pill, and on the flip side you've got interpretation. We teach a method where we show people how many ways statements and information can be interpreted, edited, cherry picked if you will. That old saying of "that's what she said" can be interpreted in one direction as a statement and in other directions as a sexist comment, an inference, the list of interpretations goes on.

This is why getting political and going for Us Vs Them, Good Vs Bad, Right side of history Vs Nazi's that everyone loves to position themselves in is dangerous.

I'll pick this game up when it's in a bargain bin but it's been a complete fiasco PR wise and the funny thing is a lot of the things extremists backing this game are claiming people raising concerns are "hating" over…. a lot of these elements were in the expansion that was also in the PS4 remaster of part 1 and praised…

So the discourse and discussion on this has already gone crazy and all it's doing is showing a lot of issues with our society.

God help anyone working at ubisoft or lucasfilm right now who want to make good games or stories and aren't interested in a political agenda.

    • +1

You said the key thing, "Reviewers I can trust" - smart move, man.
Apparently Sony/ND is turning down sending review copies to a lot of reviewers (who are typically critical) and are being extremely selective on who's getting a review copy, so there could be some shilling and bias involved.

      https://twitter.com/PaulTassi/status/1265680643024916482

      • Yeah have heard this going around. Will be interesting to see how it goes once it comes out.

  • +10

Pretty good from what I have heard - you can smash the patriarchy right in the face with a golf stick!

  • I brought the last one for like $25~ bucks remastered and it was a really good game. I'll probably do the same with this one sounds like they have ruined a few main characters from the plot leaks but until reviews are in no one can judge this game

  • +7

It should also be known that the company that developed the game, NaughtyDog, has been silencing people by falsely copyright-claiming Youtube creator’s videos talking about the game in a non-positive way. No one likes the fact that the game has been bent to be politics first and story second. There are multiple reasons why many people are not going to be buying this game anymore. ‘The Last of Us II’ was a highly anticipated game and many, many people were looking forward to it for years. If those same people are not going to be buying the game anymore, it begs the question, “Why?” If anyone doesn’t understand why people are upset at the game and the game developers, I STRONGLY recommend that you find out why, even though the game’s story will be spoiled. If you still want to buy the game, go ahead. Though I would be surprised if you do.

    • +4

I still want to play the game. People love animals but still ear meat, so really don't see the big deal. Not sure why everyone is so up in arms about this, like seriously pick your battles

    • +5

God damn I hate video game drama. Its a game. Buy it or don't. Its not a big deal yet so many act like things they've been knifed in the back.

      • +1

        Self importance and group-think

        • -2

This one is a bit different unfortunately, this becoming a megahit reinforces a lot of the bad practices going on.

There are a lot of games out there which became megahits despite people suffering horrifically under them and taking these outlooks to them reinforces these just being accepted par for the course.

We still have industrial relations legal action going through the motions for team bondi who were put through hell by the guy running it who to this day has no regrets about leaving his staff with ptsd and a suicide attempt for how he treated them making LA Noire.

It was so bad that when team bondi were looking to be acquired by rockstar games after seeing the treatment of the staff they wanted nothing to do with them, which the irony is how they've now become quite well known for crunch (but even they werent as bad as to mentally abuse their staff).

You can stll have the games but demand better ethics and work practices out of it. Not buying this game day one and waiting for sales believe it or not is a great way to do it. There are going to be a lot of bonuses's paid to the people making these horrible calls on the games politics and horrible working conditions for week one sales and pre-order numbers.

These bonus's don't go to the people who suffered under them. Even waiting just a small amount of time can have a huge knock on effect, and the way things are going, looks like the game ain't gonna stay $60+ very long…

          • +1

@typhoonadventure: That's not different at all. That is as just about all AAA games yet people will pick and choose which ones they pick up day 1 or not.

The bad practices have already been reinforced for decades unfortunately.

            • -1

@ScruffTheJanitor: That's the we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas approach.

This is how change comes about, it won't happen overnight but it starts somewhere. Why not make it here?

Then again we live in a day and age where people are aware how bad G2A are, yet defend them, even when they find out a lot of the money off that site isn't just rewarding G2A for bad ethics and business practice a lot of people then refuse to acknowledge that a lot of the money off there goes directly to crime organizations that fund sex trafficking and other horrors.

Yet people go oh me making any slight change will do nothing so I won't pay it any mind, you might not be able to move the world but you can become aware of whats going on and push for better changes.

Helping Neuter the bonus's ND are going to get for week one sales? that's a reasonable target and a good starting place.

              • @typhoonadventure: Stop asking for more. Stop crying at game delays. Thats how it gets changed, not by 0.0001% of buyers 'boycotting' it.

                • -1

@ScruffTheJanitor: ?… that completely had nothing to do with anything

No one mentioned anger at delays or wanting more, no one mentioned a boucott…

                  Simply wait for a discount.

  • +10

i think this game will be a flop compared to Part 1.

There are controversies about the excessive aggressive behaviour of Ellie, something about her romantic relationship in-game, and few other bits and bobs.
ill wait till it's released for few weeks

    • considering the first was one of the best selling games of all time, yea will be hard to compete haha

    • -3

      It will sell double

Because every (mod: edited) that hates it will still buy a copy so they can stream /record game play footage and ramble about what girl didn't like them, then they can be in the algorithm

  • -2

A quick google search shows this game has a huge amount of controversy, especially with the devs silencing people. My recommendation would be to wait a week and probably pick up for around $48 when sales tank, maybe cheaper. Who knows, could be another Anthem - JBHIFi can barely give them away at $4.
I will definitely be playing through TLOU again though!

    • +8

      Why the neg though?

    • +3

You can't get it cheaper, so don't neg.

        • +4

Dude you serious, like did your scam rader not even set off?

Everything is dodgy as Freddy about that site.

        • +1

Shipping alone is $64.99. The total price is $110.16.

          https://imgur.com/YyyHb2v

          • +1

            @evanjd: It's a scam website. AVOID

            • @Hybroid: Yeah, don't worry, the $110ish asking price was enough of a deterrent. :)

        • have fun with the ban

          • @johnwinkle: Please note that the user is/was not banned (in the penalty box), rather the user has disabled their OzBargain account.

    • +3

Who knows, could be another Anthem - JBHIFi can barely give them away at $4.

      LOL

  • +2

My first pre-order, damn you COVID 19.

  • +4

Game will be on sale within 3-4 months. Leaks will hurt sales significantly.

    • +2

Why not get the winning Powerball numbers from that crystal ball of yours?

    • +4

I disagree. The same was said about the new pokemon game.
      https://www.theverge.com/2019/11/21/20975624/pokemon-sword-a…

Gamers that sit on forums and reddit and talk about games/get into controversy of it live in a bubble. Those people make up a small minority of people that buy games but they think are the majority.

Most people that will buy it will never know about the controversy.

      • +2

Yeah, I remember when people boycotted Modern Warfare 2, which as a result tanked, only selling 4.7m copies in its first week, just counting US and UK. Utterly dismal.

        • +1

The people who said they would boycott mw2 due to the airport mission didn't even play video games lmao. You do know who cods target market is right?

          Completely different scenario to this.

          • @bert-lifts: My point was that boycotts don't work - people will shell out and buy this because it's something that they want to play, and I dare say that the leaks won't stop this, just like they didn't stop people from preordering MW2.

As an aside - a leaked part of a sequel to one of the generation's most influential games dealing with a topic considered widely to be taboo going on to spark outcry… different how?

          • @bert-lifts: And the latest Pokemon? Those were gamers. What happened there?

    • Already went gold.
Even with the high number of pre-order cancellations, this will stay gold as the sale counted.

Also still many people that were not impacted by the leaks

  • +4

There'll obviously be a true 4K version of this for the PS5.

  • +5

Confused why this has so many upvotes. The game has been $69 on Amazon preorder for weeks.

  • +7

    Don't pre-order games!

  • +7

The way Sony and ND have treated the leaks and controversy is pathetic. Avoiding this game like the plague. Which is probably a good thing given the plot and direction the story/characters have gone.

  • +1

    I loved the 1st game.
One of the biggest reasons was Joel?
I have yet to see any gameplay with Joel in it, That's seriously disappointing?
I had a hard time finishing Ellies DLC.
Shes Ok? But never would I want to play Her over Joel?
I haven't read any Spoliers at all. But every time I post something about Joel, People just post and say, I am going to be very disappointed.

Now regardless I will be buying this game. Still excited to play it! Trying to stay Positive

    • -1

Doesn't he die at the end of one?
The game had like 50 endings so I don't even remember what happens

I didn't even remember the vaccine thing till I read it recently

      • +3

No, it had only one ending and he didn't die

        • Oh no that's right
They only pretended to have him die like 5 times

He had to get up for that (profanity) slog through the hospital that took forever

No idea why that game had to be so long but then the transformer movies are 8 hours so knows

  • anyone preordered yet?

  • +1

there is only 2 games I ever buy on first day, gta and the last of us
will amazon deliver on first day the game is released?
i have not looked at or searched any news about the game, all ive watched is the trailer, and i stopped in fear of reading any parts of the story.

    • +3

      Soylent Green is people

    • +2

In the past Amazon have delivered the day before.
I hear you, but then I heard Neil Druckmann's speech about how the game.

I don't have your confidence to pre-order a game that by Naught Dog's own admissions isn't expected to be enjoyed by the existing TLOU fan base.

So need to see some trusted reviews, before I order this one.

PS: Never trust reviews on PlayStation. 2000+ reviews across multiple editions of this game, that according to media hadn't even been released for their review. Sounds suspect.

So even if it's not meant to appeal to the existing users, love you hear your review on the game.

  • +2

Was the prequel called "The second last of us"?

    • +1

The Last of Us II: We found a few more, but that's it

  • -2

Not the cheapest and based on the high pre-order cancellations, the price will likely fall or include more DLC
