Isn't this the price it's been for the last 2 years?

    • +1

      keeps fluctuating like heartbeat

    • +1

I can't downvote as the price is competitive. However, don't buy this phone unless your budget is low. It slows down quite fast and it is pretty old now. I think it is best to pay more for something newer. It's almost 3 years old, it has 4GB of RAM, and I paid this amount 13 months ago.

    • +1

For something 3gen old, shouldn't it be a bit cheaper?

  • If at least 6.7” I will get this to replace my 6.9" Xiaomi.

    • +4

But it's not. So I guess you won't.

      • And I guess you are right.

    • -2

I thought Chinese brands were no more than 3"

      • +1

        They grow after corona.

    • +2

That doesn't make sense. The A20 is $179 and this is $399.

    • +2

It's half the price but the screen is 720p, whereas the v30 has 1440p and cameras to match. If you plan on taking photos with any consistency, definitely this.

      • +4

I reckon the selfie camera is pretty average though and I hardly use the front camera.
But this has better display, better glass, HDR10, IP68, dual sim, 4k video, DAC, wireless charging….essentially comparing a flagship with an entry phone even if the flagship is 3 years old, it's still better.

    • -1

      Oppo A52 better i think

  • +7

Don't care about it's camera or phone features. Would love to own this just for the Sabre Quad DAC. Read the reviews about the phone's audio capabilities and apparently it's phenomenal specially with MQA files.

Wish it would go down a bit more (less)in price.

    • Huh never know about mqa format.
But do you need special headphone to get full quality of it?

      • Hi-Res Music even with soundpeats already big difference to me. Can't go back now.

        • Thanks learn something today, will download some and try with my various headphones headsets.

Oh forgot the player needs to have that dac thingies…. I don't think my laptop has

          • @CyberMurning: Tidal is your friend.

            • @pacificstorm: i see had a bit read i get it now tidal is like software decoder, okay but not as good as hardware decoder for example this v30.
              ok will try now

              • @CyberMurning: Tidal is a high fidelity music streaming service….essentially the same as Spotify/Apple music etc but lossless audio, 1411 kbps vs 320 kbps.

          • +2

@CyberMurning: If you have a reasonable good headset you should already feel the difference, even without DAC on the phone.

        • A lot of confirmation bias when talking about sound quality.

Majority of people simply fail to spot hi res track. Go to
https://www.npr.org/sections/therecord/2015/06/02/411473508/… and see if you can.

Even professionals confirm the same thing :https://online.berklee.edu/takenote/high-fidelity-music-streaming-can-you-tell-the-difference/

          • +3

@Indomietable: MQA, Hi-Res Audio are not just about higher bitrate or lossless.

Those samples all from the same source (may be CD) and export as difference bitrate, of course you may not feel big difference. But real Hi-Res, MQA music they are not produce with the same way, that is why they are better.

Find some real DSD music and you will know what I cam talking about.

            https://www.whathifi.com/au/advice/mqa-audio-what-it-how-can…

            • @superforever: Yep. DSD is the mother of all hi-res music and I think (not sure) the V30 plays it natively making it a must have DAP instead of a phone.

              • +2

@pacificstorm: it V30+ can play DSD natively, had it for 2 years, now upgraded to the V50 :)

                V30+ audio quality was awesome!

                • @homersyd:

it V30+ can play DSD natively,

                  What headphone you have?

                  • @superforever: Hifiman 400i, Beyerdynamic DT-770Pro 80ohm, Sony wm-1000xm3

                    • @homersyd:

                      Hifiman 400i, Beyerdynamic DT-770Pro 80ohm, Sony wm-1000xm3

The Sony is wireless but V30+ can play DSD natively only through wired I think, right?

                      • +1

@superforever: Technically DSD is still be decoded via the quad dac chip either way, but yea it'd be compressed via LDAC to send the DSD audio thru wireless cans. So you'd only get the best quality from DSD if you use a pair of wired cans

          • @Indomietable: @pig that's really interesting, on laptop I picked 320kbps over 120kbps most times (but not all) but couldn't spot difference with uncompressed WAV. I wonder if having a DAC would make a difference.

            • @nessism:

I wonder if having a DAC would make a difference.

With the same music/song I don't think you can hear that much difference unless you really have a good set of speaker.

But with DSD you will feel the difference with normal uncompressed WAV of course you have to compare it with the same music/song.

    • i guess latest sony xperia 1 mark 2 can play high res audio as well

  • As with all OLED screens don’t use Waze on it for long periods of time. Learnt the hard way.

Need v50 with second screen cover deal

Missed out last time due to covid

JB accepted the order, but after a week refunded as there were no stock :( :( 😭😭😭

    • Hi there.

Sent my from V50 with (much unused) Dual Screen.

      • +2

        haha the feels.

I got the v50 dual screen deal and the 2nd screen has been sitting in the drawer after about 3 days of having it.

        • I've stubbornly got the second screen attached as a really annoying case… I'd love that android 10 update to arrive so we could get some more use out of it.

        • Did that $599 deal come with the dual screen accessory??

          edit: Holy shit it did!

God damn that was a great deal! Only broken by the single sim D:

    • lets hope for next v50 deal jb will generous enuf to down to $399….

  • Loved this phone and probably would've still kept using it if it wernt for the G8X upgrade.

The only thing this phone lacked was stereo speakers and a bigger battery.

Feature wise it has everything else and LG kept rehashing it over and over again with the V30+, then V30S, and then the newer G series and V40 is basically the same thing or inferior etc.

  • +5

If nobody buys it, maybe they will finally drop the price. It's been at this level for ages and by now it really should be $199.

    • People keep buying it at this price because it's good value.
If they dropped the price and sold even more, they'd just put the price up again. It's not like they're on clearance.

  • +1

hoping the g8s deal comes up again.. kicking myself for not getting that.. need to get off ios!

    • It's good. I don't regret jumping from Sony.

  • My V20 is still going pretty well. I'm gonna wait & see if there are better EOY sales on phones.

  • +1

Make sure to download Gcam if you get this phone!

    • I don't find it much better than the stock cam, only for the front. It seems very slow using the rear cams for some reason. Don't know if it's just me?

  • +2

JB need to drop the price of this phone. This unit is so old and it's been this price forever. The appropriate price for this phone in 2020 should be around $250 mark.

    • Although I would also like to see this cheaper new for local stock, $250+- is currently the second hand price.

      • +1

Hmm tempted to get 2nd hand if $250 just to test if it can replace my mi max3. I really want NFC.

But worry the battery won't be good for a 2nd hand.

Edit. Uh no wireless charging. Pass.

        • +3

          It has wireless charging.

          • @Buyingcrap: Oh didn't say on the listing. Alright.
What do you think of its battery on 2nd hand? Will last a day moderate to heavy usage?

            • +1

@CyberMurning: Better wait for a second V50 deal if that ever comes again but dont hold your breath though. Or maybe as a second option a V40 deal?

    • +4

The phone might be old but these are not old stock. These phones are still being manufactured. I bought one in June 19 and the manufacture date was April 19. You can confirm by looking up the IMEI (printed on the outside of the box). I did this before purchasing as I didn't want to buy something with a 3 year old battery in it. PS, spec wise it is a beast of a phone. In my opinion $399 represents good value for money.

  • +1

"LG are no longer supporting the device with OS updates past Android 9 "

  • I have this phone. It's going fine for my use except for two main issues:

    • bluetooth connectivity issues. I couldn't get it to pair with my fitbit (but it worked fine with my JBL speakers) so not sure why. Many things show us as Misc
    • can't use 4G and call at the same time. Also, if I'm on a call, sms don't come through. This is super annoying.

    Anyone else have these issues?

    • +1

My BT can be a bit hit/miss. Sometimes it just needs turning off and back on again to re-pair to things but no issues connecting to things first time generally.

      Which telco?
I'm with Telstra and don't have any of those issues you're talking about.

      • I've been using Optus/Vodafone network on amaysim/catchconnect/kogan so that could be why. Thanks for the tip!

But the bluetooth thing I haven't been able to resolve - it took be almost 1 hour to get my phone connected to my Sony speakers - and but my fitbit versa I've given up on (it worked on my previous Oppo phone) :( but then, my LGV30+ connected fine to my car, so not sure what the problem is. I have googled this online and it seems that some people have this problem?

    • I've owned the phone for about a year and have not noticed these issues. Have you updated to Pie?

      • I'm on Oreo - do you think that's why?

      • Good point, could be why.

  • Thanks OP, wife's phone broke yesterday. Perfect timing.

  • Nothing past android 9 is sad.. G6 has android 9 :( to buy or not to buy… does this has faceid?

    • Yes, has face unlock.

  • Does the face unlock work like apple's, do you happen know? ie works for logging into apps, banking, payments via nfc etc?
*note, coming back to android after 1.5yr on ios (formally an android fanboy!), but these features have become super handy…

    • +1

I believe the face unlock feature can only be used to unlock the phone. I'm not sure why you would want to use face unlock for banking and payments when fingerprint is much more secure, easier and works in the dark.

      • agreed for making payments but for logging into xero, nab, other pass protected apps - very quick and easy.. fingerprint will do though and as you said, more secure..

  • +1

    I have the v50 and the v30+.
I enjoy both but this remains my favourite phone.
It does everything I need, it's narrower yet the screen is wider so text is generally larger.
The DAC with good headphones and music you love just needs to be experienced.
The v30 is lighter and easier to hold/carry, and has dual SIM to boot.
Bonus points for 260k Antutu on an "old phone", unlockable bootloader, alternative ROMs, GCam, TWRP and Magisk, and an active XDA community.

  • is it worth upgrading from my S8+ that is 3 years old? or v40 or v50 or something else?

    • dont think so. u might want to stick with samsung(bigger battery). or update to v40 or v50

  • +1

JB will clear their stock if the price is $250-$300. This was good flagship phone but pretty old and has no more upgrade path.

  • AVOID
I bought two of these and both have gone back for warranty for the same screen fault.
The current one is still at LG as they have no parts and are delaying at giving me a refund/store credit or replacement phone.

Worst thing though- the service or lack of.
Appalling service, lies, lg blaming the repair agent and vice versa, never return calls even though they say they will call.
