      Elaborate?

      • I just think it’s worth paying an extra $80 for the 128 gb if you can’t be bothered with i cloud. I have a young daughter and I’m always taking photos so 64gb simply isn’t enough.

    • +1

As someone on a 16GB original SE I agree

      • +5

64GB should be huge for you then

    • +22

      Take less selfies then

      • +2

Or just offload your photos every once in a while.

        • +2

Oh no I can’t show any vainity without pictures and post on social media about the “highlights” of my life. no one will leave likes ::(

          • @Griffindinho: Lol, unfortunately this is like 50% of humanity.

          • @Griffindinho: Weird way of saying "oh no I can't share what I'm doing with friends". Unnecessarily toxic tbh

            • +1

@Jec: That's what direct messages and group chats are for.

        • +2

Trying to teach my parents this is a challenge… but leaving the photos on there until you amass a huge enough library and iOS sruggles to delete it is also an issue.

          • @jace88: No, like plug it into a PC and put it on the PC, or better yet upload it to Google Drive.

    • +11

Get good data plan, use icloud or google cloud?
what do you need on your phone these days? Music is stream, videos are stream.. if you take photos or videos you can bumpt them to cloud quick enough so they dont need to be on the device…

      • +1

Getting more storage is cheaper than a bigger data plan FYI.

        • +1

Circles and Amaysim offered $30/100 GB plans recently, your phone value is not determined with the GB on phone but the model and the age at the time of resale.
I'm using the lowest gb models and relying in cloud storage.

          • @tryingtohelp: A month? So over say 5 years, that's an extra $1800 right?

            • @onlinepred: Are you saying that you don’t have to pay for mobile service if you buy a phone with larger storage option??

              • +5

                @tryingtohelp: Okay, lets picture this. I am paying $10 a month for 10gb. That's $120 a year, $600 over 5 years.

                Option A) iPhone SE2 256gb $949 + $600 = $1549 over 5 years.
                Option B) iPhone SE2 64gb $699 + $1800 higher data plan = $2499 over 5 years.

                • @onlinepred: Google photos is free for unlimited storage.

                  • @J6: Compressed only. Reduces 4k to 1080. Also data to upload and download isn't free unfortunately :-)

                    • @onlinepred: Who gives 10GB for $10?

                      • +1

@ozhunter68: I got a further discount on optus pre paid 365. Down from 150 to 120 for 120 gb.

                    • @onlinepred: Last I checked Google photos only compresses after 16 mega pixel

                      • +1

@Dan83: Yea it's very sneaky. They compress every single photo, even when 16mp. They reduce the resolution of any photo above 16mp, and compress them. They compress and reduce resolution of any video to 1080 30fps. I've had many instances where they both reduced resolution and compressed badly photos I took from my PXL.

      • +6

        $, $, and $.

Why should this person have to pay more $?

Every time I read someone make a statement like you I think "well, they either don't know value (outright phone + boost) and/or don't have kids!"

    • -1

      Get a hard drive.

    • +1

      Hahahaha.

      I have an iPhone 11 Pro 64GB.

60GB monthly dataplan + unlimited NBN at home + "Optimise iPhone Storage" + "Unlimited Mobile Data Usage" + upgraded iCloud Storage plan = no issues at all in taking A LOT of photos and videos every single day.

I prefer to have my data stored via iCloud, as it means if I break or lose the phone, my data is not lost.

      • Yea it's fine until you travel somewhere that data is expensive :-(

        • -3

Data is the most expensive in Australia. If you travel overseas, you'll be able to purchase local simcards with data allowances that represent multiples of what you get in Australia.

So I disagree. It's still more than fine.

          • +4

@CrushJelly: I travel a lot, this is simply not true. Many locals get access to certain plans/predpaid sims but must provide drivers license or passport. In some countries like Italy, all I could get access to easily, was 10gb a month travellers sim from TIM without hotspot, or the rip off travellers sim cards available globally for certain regions. If I was a local, I could have got a 60gb sim for the same price.
I traveled to the US, and locally I could only get 15gb for $39USD through T-Mobile as again I wasn't a resident. At no point is that cheaper than paying a once off $100 bucks as an example to get more storage.

Anyway, glad in your experience it has worked for you, just know that as a tourist, it isn't always possible to get good deals.

          • +2

@CrushJelly: If you show this message to anyone in Canada instead of replying on the internet he might come to Australia at your home and have an argument and it will still be cheaper.

Australia mobile Internet is very good

    • +1

the cloud is your friend mate. Love it or hate it, a lot of your information is already in there.

Stream Music & Videos, and then backing up your photos to really affordable Google Photos or Apple Cloud and you are set if you are on a budget.

    • 64GB is plenty with - onedrive, spotify, plex, netflix (etc) - I have about 23Gb free. Coupled with massive data plans these days, it works well. Always wondered why people complained about no removeable memory, it's just not necessary.

      • +1

For you perhaps? Try going on holiday with a family taking 4k videos lol. Fills up in no time. I guess many people here either don't take videos or don't go on holidays to different places mich…

        • +2

Maybe ppl don't make purchasing decisions based on <5% of their lifestyle, or actually have a holiday rather than being on their phone the whole time.

          • +1

@zqipz: You don't take videos or photos on your phone of family? I don't want to spend this much money only to find I need to pay more money later for something else. Easy to spend an extra $50 now and save money later rather than having to buy a hdd or bugger data sim while travelling. I guess for you travelling is less than 5% of your lifestyle, and taking videos or photos must be high on your list either which is fine. Just pointing out the obvious why others would want more storage, to save money….

    • +1

I get by on 32GB, with 16GB to spare.

    • +1

For like 90% of people, it would.

    • I would consider myself a heavy user and I have no issues at all on a 64GB device. Optimise your home network and cloud storage. Pretty easy to do ‘in this day and age’.

      • Heavy user of 4k videos? When you travel for a month or two through multiple countries and have very little data to use, how to you deal with all the full resolution photos and videos you take in addition to all the offline netflix/youtube videos?

    • I would have taken less than 20 photos in the last 5 years on my iPhone

      • +1

Then the 64gb is right up your alley.

  • Nice find!

  • only black available?

    • +1

      More in description

      • oh lol totally missed that. thanks.

        • +2

          It was updated later :)

  • +2

128GB is $779 (after code) from same seller

  • +1

    256GB also available for $949

  • +1

purchased last week from JB Hi Fi 64GB iPhone se2020 for $729 🙁

    • What do you think? Might sell my 11 pro for one, have a 256gb only using 27gb with iCloud.

      • +2

Might sell my 11 pro for one

Sounds like a really terrible idea. 11pro is better in every imaginable way

        • Your probably right and best i can see getting is only $1400 back. I have a Apple black leather folio i got new for $95 and really like it too.

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: I mean, it's just a phone at the end of the day - if you really need that money then sure, go for it

            • @ocoolio: Was more about going smaller/lighter and getting TID back.

      • How much do you think you can get your 11 Pro for?

iPhone SE 2020 does have the top and bottom bezel. Generally, the OLED screen is better (unless you absolutely cannot stand the colour shift). The screen is something you look at every time you use the phone. No night mode and no wide angle (you can kinda get night mode with a 3rd party app, but even with that, it is annoying). No telephoto either. Front cam is limited to 1080p video and the lens is inferior as well.

Also, due to the old design, the battery life isn't great for SE (in today's standard). That's also another area iPhone 11/Pro series improved quite a lot compared even to XS.

        • Probably $1400 from mobile monster, have had it on gumtree for $1700 with a few cases but one lousy offer only. Will probably just keep it.

  • Hmmmmm. Do I finally upgrade from my 6?

    • +10

Anything before 6s is worth upgrading from. Anything after or including 6s - hold on to it (and maybe replace the battery).
There are tons of speed tests on YouTube showing that the new Apple phones (X, 11pro, SE) are practically same user-perceivable speed as the 7 was (which is very close to 6s).

      • have a 6s and was thinking holding onto it, until I smashed the screen last week…

Thinking the 11, mainly for the camera. Not sure I can justify an extra $518 just for that :/

        • If you're really certain about sticking with Apple, and just want the camera, go for the SE. It takes better photos than the XR (and X I think, but uncertain), and the main downsides are that you're stuck with an outrageously outdated display and no face ID.
I'd lowkey recommend a Google Pixel if you're really invested in the camera, but still want a more modern feeling phone - if you don't care about that, then the SE is definitely the best purchase on Apple's side.

          • @Jec: Hm no night mode though.

I was toying around with 5c -> se2 for my partner. She has no issues with the 5c even though everybody else would balk at such an old model. But I was thinking about getting it for better photos of the kids. Except our house is quite dark so I'm not sure it helps if the SE2 doesn't have night mode.

  • 4.7”?
What version is equivalent to the old Max/plus?

    • iPhone 8's camera lenses, body, battery, with A13 CPU (including the image processing part). It does have WiFi 6 and 4G is the same as iPhone 11.

  • +2

If Apple releases a $499 phone they can be really competitive. For now I will stick with old LG and new Xiaomi phones.

    • +4

They already did, you are just looking at the wrong $. It's not Apple's fault that our proud AU$ worth nothing these days.

    • +3

Not really comparable, which is probably why they won't be targeting the ultra cheapo phones as they won't be able to maintain quality and service standards.

      • So they say. Thing is, their annual report says otherwise. No prizes for guessing which one is the truth!

  • +1

iPhone SE or wait for iPhone 12 5.4"?

    • Definitely wait, 12 5.4” is going to be cheaper than 11. But it’s going to take a while. Rumours suggest delayed launch.

  • -4

That bezel in 2020 is ridiculous LOL

    • +2

have you checked your own bezel

      • -1

is that supposed to be funny or smart?

        • L

    • I don't understand how bezel is a factor in the purchase decision. Enlighten me?

      • -4

You really need an enlightenment to understand why having a bezel the size of a football field will factor in people's decision to buy a mobile device?
This phone probably has the same screen to bezel ratio as my 5-6 year old Ipad Mini. Unless you are a fanboy, you don't need someone to explain why that's ridiculous in this day and age.

        • +1

          Your opinion =/= fact

          • -1

@Cyphar: How funny given I never used the word "fact" anywhere in my post. I suggest you go and get your eyes checked.

Fact is Apple was bloody lazy with this phone and decided to use the same design from many moons ago and yet fanboys are fine with it.
            Sheeps will be sheeps.

            • @keejoonc:

How funny given I never used the word "fact" anywhere in my post. I suggest you go and get your eyes checked.

You are telling people off for having a differing opinion from you.

Fact is Apple was bloody lazy with this phone and decided to use the same design from many moons ago and yet fanboys are fine with it.

              Again. Your opinion =/= fact

You really need to grow up. A phone is just that, a phone. Why should you care for how people prefer theirs?

              • -2

@Cyphar: I told people off? Are you hallucinating? Let's track back. I just said that bezel in 2020 is ridiculous then I get the fanboys saying silly things like how bezel doesn't impact on people's decision when buying phones, which is non-sense. People were complaining about notches and now having a bezel from the early to mid 2000's is now acceptable? How interesting.

If you think using the same design from many years ago is anything other than being lazy, there is no getting through to you.

Where did I say I care? You really love making things up don't you?

                • @keejoonc:

I just said that bezel in 2020 is ridiculous then I get the fanboys saying silly things like how bezel doesn't impact on people's decision when buying phones, which is non-sense.

Do you act like a baby all the time? Or is it just your hatred toward's people's freedom of choice that make you act like one?

Where did I say I care?

You're arguing the matter passionately. I'm not sure why you're bothering if it isn't because you care.

You're contradicting yourself with every post. My advice is to just stop embarrassing yourself further.

                  • -1

@Cyphar: Says the person who thinks they don't care yet cared to post and continues to post against my comment. Hypocrite much?
Being passionate means I care about other people's decision? Once again, making stuff up.
A word of advice, bolding words don't do anything to strengthen your argument.

                    • +1

                      @keejoonc:

I'm not arguing over right and wrong. I haven't disrespected a person's opinion. If they go "I think iPhones suck. I don't like them", then so be it. I'm not going to protest that. If somebody says "iPhones suck. You should feel bad, you sheep" or calling them "Fanboys", then that's wrong. Guess which one you fall under?

Being passionate means I care about other people's decision? Once again, making stuff up.

A word of advice, bolding words don't do anything to strengthen your argument.

It points out your contradictions. You need a long hard look at yourself and how you approach giving your own opinion in the face of others. It's fine to be critical. it's fine to be objective. It's NOT fine to enforce your opinion upon others and you're saying "herr derr I don't care about others" then why on earth do you persist with it?

If you can't understand that, then no amount of common sense will get through to you and this conversation has run its course

                      • -1

@Cyphar: I didnt even bother reading all your irrelevant drivel because it's got nothing to do with the topic on hand.

Please explain how having that much bezel is beneficial in anyway? Arguing that bezel size is irrelevant to phone's design and usability cant be explained as anything other than being a fanboy.

How am I being a fanboy when I have a valid reason for dissing this phone? If you want to talk about morals and warm and fuzzy crap, seek it elsewhere.

                        • @keejoonc: "I didnt even bother reading"

                          Incoherently argues points in post

      • +3

Some people dislike the look of it - it's a preference thing. There's an argument to be made that having a higher screen/body ratio is also better for viewing media, but honestly from someone who spends most of their time on youtube, I can't really argue for that in most cases. Movies? Yes. Youtube? Not so much.
If you don't care, then good for you.

        • It's not just a preference thing. It makes the device unnecessary larger due to the bezel. Larger form factor with smaller screen. What more could you ask for?

          • @keejoonc:

What more could you ask for?

People have been begging for an updated model of the SE for years. They got an updated model for the SE. If this upsets you, then you clearly were not the market audience for the SE.
