Alotta monitor for your buck here.
If you're gaming at 3440x1440 the vast majority of PC's would struggle to make 75fps, so I'd be happy with these specs if I was a light gamer with a mid-range build.

3440x1440 the vast majority of PC's would struggle to make 75fps

i5-8600K @5.2Ghz + 2080 here, most games have no issue maintaining 75fps with high or medium settings at that resolution.

Granted the vast majority of PCs are Intel HD and the vast majority of gaming PCs play at 1920x1080.

Not sure if a build with a $1k+ GPU is really mid-range.
We are on ozbargain after all.

I have a 1070 and barely make 75fps in AAA titles on high settings.

I'd rather take Kogan's 120hz curved at this price. I've got a 5700xt and most "AAA" games can run at ~75fps (i try to keep the 1% lows above 50) at ~high settings and 80% scale sharpened. This is fine and dandy, but you'd get a really shit experience if you tried playing more multiplayer games like CS/LOL at only 75hz.

also "HRD10" here is a scam. it's a VA with max brightness 350cd, that doesn't even meet proper HDR400 standards. I think it's doing the chinese projector scam of advertising accepting HRD10 signals as the "feature".

Yeah 120hz is pretty sweet if you're going to be gaming more than 'lightly', I'd definitely get that over this monitor.

But I also recently bought a monitor with pretty much the same specs as this, except 100hz and 32" and got a good deal at about $800.
So I reckon an extra 2" of screen real estate and 75hz for $600, for someone that's not playing shooters, is a nice compromise.

Anyone that's half serious twitch gamer wouldn't consider 75hz.

Which 120hz you referring to? Had a quick hunt around and wasn't finding much curved wides at that spec, although few screens are out of stock atm.

Curved monitor will be better at that size.

34" ultrawide monitors need to be curved

    • Agreed. Now that I'm used to a curved 34UW, flat monitors past about 24" feel like old convex CRTs.

Even though VA is better than TN for viewing angles, you're still going to get discolouration near the edges on flat Ultrawides. IPS might be able to make the argument against, but unequal distance from eyes is still suboptimal.

    • For certain productivity tasks, I would disagree. Doing CAD, 3D or graphic design on a curved display is annoying, especially if you’re doing any precise linework. It’s somewhat offputting to have lines not appear as though they’re straight. There’s a small handful of flat ultrawides out there for productivity thankfully.

For gaming and entertainment, I have nothing against curved displays.

        Agreed

I have the LG 34" flat and I don't do CAD but most of the time I will have to put the main task at the middle of the screen.

No sure what it will like if I have a curved one.

    Need a good 27" 1440p 144hz price!

  • I bought a lenovo g34w-10 1440p 144hz 34inch curved va for $729 from lenovo education store last month, will arrive in middle June.

    • I can see the Lenovo at $912 on the education store. So they might have increased the price.

What's the recommendation for 32 or 34" 1440p Ultra wide for working from home(no gaming needs at all) ? Any suggestions?

      • Honestly if you are just doing office style work you can probably go for the cheapest that matches your resolution and size demands. If you aren't gaming, or doing any kind of graphics design you won't really care about gtg, refresh, freesync or colour accuracy.

Most of the more expensive monitors will be overkill for you and essentially be spending money on bells and whistles which you may never notice or care about.

If you want a 34" WQHD monitor I would go for something like this for $450 https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-34-wqhd-219-ultrawide-75h… instead of spending almost twice as much. You'll just need to decide if you can live with the the aggressively ugly gamer chic. I'd just put it on a VESA mount and pretend you've never seen the back. Only people gaming need a 144Hz monitor and even then the advantages over a 75Hz will only matter if your computer can push the frames and the main advantage is in more twitch style games.

        • Would you choose the above kogan one or this?
          https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B081C66GX5/

          • @congo: Depends on what you are after and your expectations to be honest. Looking for the biggest resolution at the cheapest price no matter what? Go the Kogan. Happy with less pixels but want higher frame rate? Go the Samsung.

As strange as it sounds I actually have a Kogan 34" 3440x1440 monitor (but not that one) next to a HP Omen 32" 1440p monitor (which is what the Samsung is). I personally prefer the 3440x1440p for both productivity and gaming activities. I'm intending to get rid of the 32" in the not too distant future as my setup is honestly more monitor than I need and to be honest. I now almost always use the Kogan monitor for gaming because the extra width can be really immersive for games that properly support it.

I do probably have reasonably cheap taste in Monitor and can't admit that I ever noticed a real difference going from gaming at 60Hz to 75Hz to 100Hz but I'm not into competitive FPS gaming or other things which will really push a monitor to it's limits. I also accept that my Kogan monitor is likely to have average at best colour accuracy and is missing the bells and whistles like HDR, HDMI 2.1 ports etc.

To give you an idea of how Kogan monitors roll the manufacturer couldn't even get the Kogan logo on the front straight and if we are honest it feels cheap in places compared to the Omen 32". However I can accept this because it WAS cheap. It's a lot of monitor for the money and I'm honestly happy with it and couldn't justify the extra cost to buy any other monitor with the same specs.

  • Still on a lookout for <$600 29-34” curved widescreen. Which mind you, sales existed before covid.
Only need for work, not a gamer.
Looking slim for likely rest of the year.
Was hoping there was a EOFY deal jumping in
