    I'd personally go with the Thinkpad Edge. Even though it's not a real Thinkpad (i.e. T or X), it'll be good enough for most use cases.

    That said, I've always had bad experiences with HP products in terms of reliability

    No idea mate, can't see the specs for both the Lenovos.

    The HP only comes with intel graphics? That means it doesn't meet your gaming requirement?

    I'd go the E15 over the C340 based on build quality. But we can't see the specs since it is behind the education wall thing.
    How much do you value portability? The E15 will be big and chunky, while the HP will be lighter.

    I think the Flex 5 deal is better in almost every respect, but you'll need to find it instock at that price.

    Lenovo any day of the week, wayyy more reliable, great keyboard and HP still tends to run hot resulting in major failures

    In general - Lenovo is better. They are built more solid, the keyboard is much much nicer due to great key travel (the feeling of pushing a key is much better and makes typing easier) and in general they're quite reliable.

      Thanks mate. Looks like as per ozzie bargainer recoomendations lenovo is the way to go.

    I used my last HP for almost 6 years (Envy series).
    Higher-end HP's are great+build quality excellent
    lower-end HP generally tends to run hot+mediocre build quality.

    Lower-end/Mid-end Lenovo has a good build quality+Great keyboard. Higher-end are epics.

    I would go for Thinkpad if I were you.

    while having no experience with HP lappies, and only with T series, but in terms of ruggedness, man, I'm still running T400 (2008!), T440s, T500 laptops - moved them to SSD's but that's it, dropped many, many times, one sits in my workshop, they tough!

      @mike6969 yes it does. I just borrowed my friends school id and it seems to work.

    Thanks @rustproof - ended up pulling the trigger on the HP above for $674 delivered.
    I won't be moving it much so I figure the build quality diff is not so much of an issue for me.

      No problem atleast it helped someone. I guess its fantastic spec in general if we do not take above comments on HP brand in to consideration. And at $674 is a.bargain. none other brand with same spec.come.close by this price.

    Personally I (profanity) despise HP. Their products are sooo overpriced. I was lucky enough to get a refund, but I payed $1000 AUD for a HP laptop only to find it uses a TN panel, WHAT?! Moreover they seem to come with more preinstalled bloat than Lenovo laptops and Lenovo's Thinkpads are just unbeatable. Personally have a Dell laptop and can vouch for their customer service being awesome, but have heard great things about Lenovo's products (don't know much about their customer service).

    This one has a VA panel, and I'm going to format the drive and install Linux.
    I'm definitely a fan of Dell machines but they are out of my price range. If you love Lenovo go for the other deal seems like good value also.
