  • Have they enabled the SpO2 sensor on this?

Fyi, doesn't work on Android phones unless you side load app

    • What is a side load app?
do you have any further information?

      • Not play store

      • +2

Sideloading apps means to install an app without using the Play Store. Usually this would mean downloading the app file (apk file) from a website, and installing it manually on the device. This is riskier as you need to be sure that the source that you download the app file from is trustworthy.

It means you need to visit dodgy link, or connect your phone to pc, and download app from browser and enable some settings and ignore some warnings and install that app. The app then will not have play store auto update or security check etc.

Why side load app? This is a smart watch, not a phone. It will works with Android phones. You need Huawei Health app to connect and configure the watch. The Huawei Health app is available in Play Store.

      • -2

The app no longer works with the watch, and no new updates. Read the comments on the play store.

Those who neg me, go buy it, have fun! Good luck!

        • I will neg you because from what I can see, you are spreading miss truths. I'm still getting updates on mine. The next update allows remote operation of phone camera. It's being released in batches now. I expect to get it this month. I've had several updates dive January, the app tells me when a new one is available.

I'm not saying you're a liar, maybe that's been your experience but I and those I know who own this watch certainly aren't experiencing the problems you mention.

@Click_It: Mate, I don't care. I have much more important things that worrying about a neg. You guys can buy, just don't come crying to me later.

Exactly what doesn't work? I have had this watch since January. Everything works fine, no side loading required. (Huawei P30 Pro)

EDIT: airhitam beat me to it. What he says is correct.

Great watches, underrated for sure. Over time Huawei have released a number of improvements. Watch faces, Sp02 sensor etc.

Huawei phones is different (isn't it obvious?) you got the app from app gallery right? Not play store

        Sigh……..

        • +1

I own the watch. App is in the Play store for Android (Samsung) and also in the App Store for iOS.

There is no need to side load anything.

iOS App has some restrictions such as music transfer and watch face download.

          • @taco: Looking at the comments in the Play Store, some people are having problems recently. Looks like a new thing. I installed the app a week ago with no issues.

        • I've never used the app gallery, only Google Play

          • @Click_It: I bought this watch last week, play store version of Huawei health doesn't work as it says it needs to be updated via app gallery, I had to sideload app gallery and then update Huawei health that way, then realise half the sports apps don't sync well with this (eg no heart rate monitor on Google fit nor on MyFitnessPal) so basically I'm having to run 3 different apps to track fitness correctly, I wish I had just purchased a Fitbit or Samsung watch. Syncing with Google fit is shoddy at best, having to force close Google fit, then manually syncing on Huawei health then opening Google fit to hopefully get the sleep/fitness tracking syncd

            • @Unkiejay: If that's the case return it. I don't know why people are having these troubles. Everything worked perfectly out of the box for me and my friend who purchased in January with different Android phones. Neither of us installed app gallery. I can only guess they've since changed something.

I only ever downloaded Huawei Health from Google Play and it worked perfectly. Anything less and I would have returned it. My health app certainly updates on its own, no need for the app gallery. Strange others are asking for that.

Edit: just checked, because I have a Huawei phone it ships with App Gallery by default. I just opened it and it's asking for first time setup. So it's definitely not doing anything in the background, the health app on mine does everything independently.

              • @Click_It: Just updating my firmware within the Health app now to 1.0.7.16. Effortless.

                • -1

@Click_It: Seriously it takes you how long to realise that you got Huawei phone? 2 days? Who is Spreading miss truth now?

  • bought one

    Does it work with Strava

    • Don't think it does, was going to pull the trigger on this.. No Strava support has made me change my mind

  • Does it have NFC?

    • It does but unfortunately only in use for China 😒

  • Thanks, purchased. I have a P30 Pro

    • Let us know how yours goes. Some as saying the health app requires app gallery to function. I don't have app gallery set up on mine (or never opened it once) and the health app works perfectly, updates itself etc. It could be because we have Huawei phones but I don't understand why some are requiring side loading apps. Certainly hasn't been my experience.

      • I seen some comments in the thread regarding sideloading and non-compatibility. I'm assuming they dont have a Huawei phone. I was able to install mine straight out of the box yesterday and didnt have any dramas. In regards to apps, Health & AppGallery came pre-loaded on the phone but I've never used them. That said, the set-up was extremely easy. Basically turn the watch on, and use the Health app to find the device. It then downloaded two rounds of firmware updates for the watch, the latest being released in May '20. I'm not sure if you need AppGallery for it to work. I have it installed, but like you have never used it, and I didn't have to use it during the set up.

        • Yeah exactly the same as you then. I have App Gallery only because it's an default on Huawei phones, never used it.

I just got the latest 1.0.7.16 firmware today downloaded via Health.

I wonder if it's because we have Huawei phones. I'd like to find out because I may one day have a different brand phone since the P30 Pro is end of the line for us in terms of google services.

  • thanks OP. Picked one up yesterday, so far pretty happy. Upgrading from amazfit Bip.
Using with iphone app seems OK.
They are actually an attractive watch, bright, clear, nice buttons, and everything works as mentioned.
