Anyone know what is the drive inside?

    • Can it be opened easily without damage or voiding warranty?

    • I believe HP uses WD drive.

    • 'dunno… it said something like "HP Desktop HD BD07 USB Device" on a friend's Win 7 box… maybe try to access it on a Linux or FreeBSD box?

  • Seriously tempted.

Last time they had the sale web site crashed, i think it will be the sae

might as wel go to officeworks and walk in and get a WD one for 2TB for $99

  • can office work price match this. $88.20

  • $88.20

    Where did you get it?

    • as in if officeworks price matches + adds a 10% discount for the trouble, perhaps? $98.00-$9.80=$88.20. even though they only discount it 5%.

      • I thought it was 10% price match? Sorry my mistake.

prices are live 2pm tomorrow AEST for those wanting to get one.

    • -3

      AEST or AEDT?

  • Wow awesome deal. However would anybody know where I could get cheap quality 2tb usb 2.0 drives? Saw a sale here on seagates 2tb from big w for ~70 but missed it and have yet to see anything at that price elsewhere. Cheers

      Also interested in this…

  • Is this price good in-store?

PS One OfficeWorks had a other's brochure at the entry bull.board, showing a well-known brand (S'gate or WD) 2TB ext HD (maybe price-matched?) for $88 recently (last week).

  • don't mean to bomb this thread but does any one know of any really cheap internal 2TB sata drives? or should i buy this and take it apart?

    • +1

I bought a 2tb Samsung f4 from Scorptec for around $85, and msy have cheap 2tb green drives as well. This is good for 2tb usb3, but not to cannibalise the drive unless you can reuse the enclosure.

    • +1

      $79 @ MSY (Seagate Green 5900 RPM Barracuda's -or- WD's counterparts)

PC DIY had some $58 Seagate 7200 RPM HD… but only 1 TP in size

  • yeah, well i guess once i open it up there goes the warranty. I will pick one up as is, have a full 1TB in my pc- will just transfer everything over. Also have one more USB 3.0 slot left :)

  • Should be very handy for my Xkey…

  • Will this work with a mac? Provided I reformat it correctly, and don't intend on using the backup software… I know that my mac doesn't have USB 3, but this is backwards compatible, so it should work, right? All the searching I've come up with suggests windows 7 etc, but is that only for the software?

    • +1

      yes it will.
too bad it says it's sold out as of 7:30am QLD time.
the price didn't change for me when i checked it just past midnight :(

      • Thanks for that… Same and same! Ah well, next time~!

  • Still a fair few available at big w at calamvale, qld. Possible around ten?

  • Only 1 left when I picked one up from Brisbane City at around 11am.

  • Just picked 1 up from Wetherill Park at 5.30. Still got some.

  • Tried to buy from Big W's web site at 10am Wed morning — It's already out of stock?!

Later the day I went to Big W Fairfield and they only had 2 units left. I've got the deal but was amazed at the inadequate stock level.
