So many Soniq TVs on hard rubbish.

Cheap rubbish - I've fixed many in my time. Ironically being cheap rubbish the part that fails is literally a few cents.

If you see one out and are handy with a soldering iron, grab it - it's usually an AMS1117 regulator that needs replacing. Easy in-circuit testing.

    • this is one of the reason to buy these cheapies from your local stores, easy to get help on warranty.

      • Maaaaaybe. I wouldn't expect any help beyond what I would bet is a 12 month warranty!

And your ACL isn't gonna protect you when a 50 inch TV cost $300 :)

It's literally one of the cheapest on the market, can we stop calling everything such as 'rubbish'?

Just because the price sets the expectation doesn't mean it's exempt from being labelled as such.

A bargain isn't a bargain if you only get what you pay for. It's like the influx of cheap (sub-$80) tablets that were all the rage a few years ago. Paperweights out the box.

Yep fixed 2 of mine as well. These regs cost me about $7 for 5 on eBay.
Soldering is a little delicate though. Otherwise easy fix.

    • Is the power supply board easy to replace? Would save on doing the soldering.

      • They're all single (and surprisingly small) integrated boards these days!

        Modularisation only costs money :)

        • Thanks. Been awhile since I looked. Then the power board was seperate and you could just replace it.

Ok apart from the TV needing future soldering, anyone have anything good to say about this TV lolz

It has picture and sound and it turns off and on.
What more do you need for this price?

I have a Soniq 55 inch Chromecast from the Amazon deal almost a year back. I have to say I actually don't mind the quality or the panel at all. Run a Vodafone TV on it and picture looks very crisp.

My 55" soniq is 5-6yrs old & still going. It's back from when they put 3d in TVs. Sound always was meh & got worse after 3 yrs. Starting have minor power issues but mostly works great. Hate it's running Android 2.1 & I can't bypass the overlay without remote but def don't regret the purchase.
The first one of the same model we had return DOA as it had lines across the screen.
So milage does vary but for that price is say worth it.

See, now I don't get this. You have listed four faults with the TV but are still recommending it?

      • Because it was very cheap for the slight issues. I have the same feedback. Had mine for 5 years. The only issue is the inability to bypass the smart menu on startup. But my harmony remote takes care of that.

  • Random question OP, but were you the guy asking about headphones at the service counter? :P

    • nope… they don't really have many headphones in that store.

Got one in VIC about a month ago. Is that the best tv you can get? No! Is that the best TV you can get for 300? I think so. Picture is ok, sound is ok. Built in chromecast is definitely a plus. The only annoying thing I find is that if you are watching something on hdmi and try to turn the tv off on the remote, it always goes back to the chromecast input and then you have to press turn off again.

My Soniq is 4 years old now and plowing along just fine, used everyday as a hand me down to my parents. Understand it won't have the best picture, the best sound, the best o/s, the best of anything other than value really. Was 30% cheaper than the next 55 inch tv at the time.

  • My Soniq HD - 42 inch was purchased in 2010 and still runs like a dream. Paired up with a Chromecast for full HD streaming.
