Arlo Pro 2 (Add-On Camera), itself is not included in the additional 15% promotion. When checked out, still the price as $249.00

      Thanks fixed.

The quality on these is shit house. Loads of complaints on their forums

    • +1

Quality of what? Have 3 and no issues here.

  • hi there, my newb self is not sure whether the Pro 2 still come with the free 7 days recording?

  • This or Eufy?

    • +1

Eufy has no subscription fees and is arguably better quality

    • +1

Can't talk to the Eufy. Was swayed by the hype and got a pair of the Ultras with the RACV discount a few weeks ago. They are … problematic. And it wasn't until I got them and started to investigate the problems that cropped up for me that I realised it probably wasn't a great purchase.

      • If you were to choose again, what would you buy?

      • What problems are you having?

        • Activity zones don't work. Known problem. Didn't realise until I set up a zone and got hundreds of activity notifications for activity outside the zone. Not sure if I would get them again. Not sure what I would get instead. Probably still too early to write them off completely too.

          • @5cooter: What’s the light like on these? Is it decent and bright? Or pretty crappy?

            • +1

@LittleTicket: The rest of it seems to be pretty good really. Light seems to do a good job at night of producing a coloured image.

          • +2

@5cooter: I had that too with the Ultras. It turned out it was the sound alerts most of the time. Mute it in the profile and it calmed right down. Otherwise I’ve been happy with the picture quality but they can be heavy on batteries. Solar panels fixed that.

            • @cletus75: Cheers @cletus75 I'll have a look at that today.

  • Arlo Pro 3 doesn’t come with free cloud recording; only first 3 months as a trial. But happy with its camera viewing angle and 2K resolutions so far.

    • But you can record locally to base station though? Via usb

      • Sure you can but again to view it through arlo app you have to use same wifi network. You can’t view it if you are away from home or use mobile connection unfortunately. There are ways around it but not simpler I guess.

  • Wish these things had a quicker live view, to much bloat compared to other wireless cameras on the market

    • Yea at least it's faster and more reliable than swan wireless etc. They have made it quicker in the last few months, so lets hope they improve it further.

  • Are the comments about the Pro 3 true? Have people suffered:
    - appalling battery, even on solar?
    - shit house activity zones that don’t work?
    - super buggy software?

I was keen on purchasing, especially with the light, but little hesitant after a forum visit.

  • Am using Arlo Pro 2 (3 Camera System) for around 1 year. bought for $479
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/465572
Battery life not that good. So all my cameras are connected to power. Otherwise so far so good. No plan to upgrade as pro 3 and ultra don’t have 7 day free cloud recording

    • I can't believe i sold mine for $700, now I need it.

    • What do you mean not that good? I get 3-5 months from most of my ones, except one which gets loads of motion/traffic so it only lasts about 2 months.

      • No much motions for me but I set video recoding to 2min, So consume more battery

        • I have it set to max video quality and 3mins. It is close to the home point and wifi though.

  • Still some on the RACV site - Pro2 with 4 camera for $699

  • Anyone who have these, how is their impact on the bandwidth on the home wifi and NBN connection?

Do they slow your other wifi devices down like laptops, Netflix ect…?
I'm curious to know how they cope on the NBN as it's always uploading videos (more per camera) to the internet right?

    • +1

These are great not sure what the complaining is about. If they are draining too quick you need to adjust the wifi channel . If you want wireless these are the best option IMHO.

Haven’t noticed any issues with bandwidth. I have the Pro 2. 5 cameras

    • no as they run on their own network via the hub. It only slows down if you they are recording, which they only do if there is motion. It's negligible impact on NBN.

    • With my 5 camera Pro 2 (1080P) setup, I was able to use it on 12/1 internet speeds. Didn’t notice any effect on my internet but now I think about it, maybe that’s why I kept getting owned in online gaming :)
I didn’t have any issues on Netflix HD stream.
With NBN I would suspect it’s sufficient enough even on the lower speeds.

It’s only uploading videos when it detects motion so it’s not like it’s constantly uploading.

Hoping you would have the arlo floodlight camera or a deal ion the lights .

  • -3

Arlo = no. I'm glad I did my research and didn't end up aboard the ozb "me too" train.

I don't know if eufy or anything else is a good alternative though. Anything on battery is probably a bit limited

    • +3

Well they work for millions of people , train is pretty full

      • Arlo 2 at night? Hah. Kidding.

      • +1

exactly, it's just that people don't know who or what situation wireless cameras powered by battery are designed for. They are not 24/7 always on CCTV if you want that get that.

        • I'm talking of useless night vision on arlo2, issues with the silicon covers screwing with the video, solar panel inadequacy and reliability issues, bug ridden software, unable to download recording from the cloud. I would hope some of this is fixed by now but the manufacturer doesn't seem to give a toss and it's impossible to fix the night vision (arlo 2 was the last I bothered to look at) which is crucial. When people recommend motion activated spotlights as the only solution to bad night vision then there's something truly wrong with the product.

I mention the battery limitations probably apply to all. That's not what I'm talking about.

          • @justtoreply: Yeah night vision is an absolute joke on the Arlo 2

          • @justtoreply: what do you recommend then? Genuinely interested.

            • @mamnun: "I don't know if eufy or anything else is a good alternative though. Anything on battery is probably a bit limited"

          • @justtoreply: this is for arlo 3…..

            • @onlinepred: Thats the point. Setting up cctv is a nightmare without proffesional help is a nightmare and arlo on battery is a good option. Not perfect but pretty good for what it is

            • @onlinepred: The OP is for arlo pro 2 as well. And it's very good advice that anyone buying arlo pro 3 check the issues with it first. Tbh I doubt the manufacturer has resolved must of it, they've a track record of not caring.

              • @justtoreply: Having Arlo Pro, Arlo Pro 2 and Arlo Pro 3 cameras, I'm really not sure what you are talking about. They had MANY updates. I can download any video from the cloud without issue, haven't encountered any of the other issues except poor night performance from the pro 2, but I knew that, and it is only used indoors. I mean apply a little bit of intelligence to your purchases and you will be fine.

My arlo pro 2 indoor camera has lasted going on 4 months now and is at 18% left. My Arlo Pro 3 is incredible at night vision. My original Arlo Pro is still going strong as my front door monitor/alarm and has no issues at all.

    • Any suggestions? You know that if you ozbargain a deal, you can still sell it and be up.

  • Yeah not a good experience
    Returned the next day

I am also looking for battery operated cameras (for easy DIY). I am also confused by mixed reviews for all different brands and can't decide which one to pick from the following…

Reolink Argus 2 (Reason: good night vision and solar panel compatible)
    EUFY 3 (1year battery)

  • Looking at Shopback and Cashrewards, there's no cashback on Electronics for either however there's 4% cashback on Cameras. Noob question…. Would the Arlo Pro 3's be eligible for the 4% cashback on Cameras?

  • +1

I've been running 4 of these for a couple of years, my expectations were not high ie I didn't expect this to compete with Hikvision CCTV for clarity of image and night vision distance, but then again I am unable to run PoE to the areas where the cameras are located currently.

Therefore the upside is Arlo is x1000 better for my needs at the other option didn't work or at a cost that was prohibitive.

Regarding night vision, if the IR has something close to bounce off this 'enhances' the power quite considerably. However, I use the cameras to see who is within 5-8m of my house walls. The longest night vision shot I have is of the side of my house from a hidden camera, it's around 20m. Not clear, but sufficient for my wife to see if there is someone around the property boundary.
