How loud is the prism cooler under load?
Ohh it is loud enough LOL - hating it every moment and considering switching back to the wraith spire cooler that came free with my 1600AF
mines not loud at all when being pushed with a 2600
It is loud….but but but RGBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB!
Not too bad from my experience… If you really crank it, it gets a bit noisy, but realistic everyday usage is near-silent if you play with your fan settings. I could hear mine spooling up when exporting video from Premiere or benchmarking, but gaming/productivity use will see a Prism operate quite fine.
i had this dilemma recently. my case, ram, mobo and all my case fans are all rgb. but i wanted the best air cooler i could get, i let common sense prevail, got a brown and beige noctua. and with all the lights on around it, it doesnt look anywhere near as bad as i thought it would. You could use a Phanteks Halo RGB fan shroud if it bothers you that much.

A good alternative is to get a be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 CPU Cooler from Scorptec for $129. This trades blows with Noctua NH-D15.
P.S.: just checked Scorptec website. Price has increased to $139 and it is showing as out of stock.
Or the D15S, I think it was posted by someone here around $100 on Newegg. Close in performance, much better clearance.
The u14s beats both if the cpu consumes less than 150watts and is more silent.
Yeah I also considered the Dark Rock Pro 4 as well. I think cooling is on par, the D15 may have a slight 1-2 degrees better perf (not important).
However what did it for me was a few of the youtubers saying the Noctua was easier to install.
Yeah reviews tend to give a 1-2 degree advantage to D15 but the Dark Rock Pro 4 is more quiet by something like 1-2 dB. The difference is purely academic. For all intents and purposes, they perform the same.
While I can't vouch for how easy it is to install the D15, I can vouch for how hard it is to do the Dark Rock Pro 4!!!!
lol I suppose you only install it once so for majority of people a non-issue afterwards.

Let's just say I don't look forward to it. The size really makes it pretty awkward.
The Dark Rock Pro 4 also looks better IMO, the big black plate makes it blend in better.
Another alternative is the discontinued Deepcool Assassin II, particularly good on ryzens. There still seems to be a bit of stock floating around for $100 or less.

The DH15 competes with most decent AIO coolers, it's quieter, cheaper and no risk of a leak/pump dying.
If clearance isn't an issue then I'd always pick the DH15 over an AIO

Unless you overclock to the extreme or want to show off, you don’t need an aio.
This is better than most if not all AIO water coolers.
Quieter I doubt very much if you setup a watercooler properly. Mine is on 10% fan speed until CPU hits 64c (which is max my m/b allows), during normal usage and gaming because of the latent cooling capacity of a water cooler it effectively never spins up. So I guarantee with the right config a water cooler is far superior for silent computing.
Is it the noise of the fans or the pumps which is louder on your water cooler setup?
I can never hear the water pump even with my ear basically right on it. I have one of the older Corsair H110 280mm setups.

Problem with pumps is they tend to run higher RPM than fans and have higher pitched noise, so even if they are technically at the same/lower noise level, their noise is more penetrating and harder to block out/ignore.
Many variables to consider but on higher end CPU's i.e 3900x with all threads loaded, liquid cooling had worse performance and was louder for me.

I was rocking the old D14 for months with nothing but the case fans cooling it, mind you that was on an oc'd ivybridge

And, of course, you don't require garbage software to make the cooler work like all(?) AIOs.

That's my logic, the deepcool castle 360 rgb v2 is $200, why would you pay $100 for Rgb fans only..
Having said that got a 3 pack of deepcool cf120 fans i was planning on run together but the mobo doesn't even have JRAINBOW/ARGB ffs

Wouldn't mind it as I was planning on an air cooled set-up 3700x and meshify C, would be quiet with two 140mm intakes on the front.. Noctua are still about $50 each now, got a quiet one 28 bucks back in the day.
Kind of get sucked into RGB fans, look alright but drive up the price of everything, ordered 3 pack of deepcool argb fans for $60, and was thinking the Deepcool Castle 240 V2 ARGB AIO to go with them (as front push setup instead of 2x140mm). Don't mind the look of RGB but could forget about it lol. Hard deciding and must stuff not in stock.

Having nh d15 with 3700x, stable at 65 degree for 4.4ghz all-core, best fan cooler.
Noctua are the best, just hard to justify at $220 because it isn't twice as good as competitors, its quieter for the same cooling
$160 if I was building an Air cooled build to overclock, I think I'd pull the trigger, I want to right now but my current Aircooler is perfectly fine - damn you and your longevity saving me money!

I remember when I did my build years ago everyone said they were great but only came in that awful awful brown colour, so I never even considered one.

At this money aio water coolers blow it out of the water - fan criticisms of aio are bullshit- I always change the fans on mine - use the others as case fans at low revs. Always bottom mount though
I was an air cooler for decades long after aio came out but good ones now are well made and have long warranties.
This paint job d15 is way 2 much for what it does - the fans are not that good, and way 2 much crap is being spouted here. The noctua replacement socket kit offer is good but requires the original receipt document to accompany it - so if u have money to burn keep that document safe but then if you pay this much for an old design u probably don't care..

LTT has similar results, no AIO is "blowing this out of the water", in fact this is a better choice for most people unless they have space restrictions.

Except they didn't? Performs worse than all the AIOs in the charts here at the same noise levels, and by more than 2 degrees too.
How are the fans not that good? High airflow, high static pressure, low noise.
hundreds of fans have those qualities - many at cheaper prices - paying for the name..
I admit the Noctua fans are very expensive, but I can't seem to find "hundreds of fan" that have the qualities of the Noctua ones.

I actually got the free Noctua mounting kit without a receipt. I just had to take a photo of the Noctua product with a piece of paper with my name and date written on it.

Wish I tried that. I was in the store and picking up my new CPU and I thought about a new mounting kit, and just shelled out money for it. Couldn't be arsed waiting for it from Noctua. I'll just let myself out of OzBargain.

As someone that has done custom loop water cooling for years, I would steer clear of a lot of AIO coolers. Most normally come with cheap fans, thin aluminium radiators and slow pumps. There is reason why a certain percentage have issues. I have used the Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 on my Threadripper build and it worked well prior to installing my custom loop. Though cooler posted by the OP maybe over kill for Ryzen CPUs with a 65w TDP.
Overkill, definately, but I have the original NH-D15 for my 3600X. Before that it was on my 1600X and before that it was on my i5-2500k.
My cooler has been in all my rigs for 9 years. Zero concern about water leaks, and I know that Noctua will make new brackets available for new CPUs.
I mainly have mine for quietness though. I like a silent case.
