  • Can this be used to drill concrete?

    • +5

No, get yourself a (corded) rotary hammer drill. Cheap and efficient.

    • +1

While you can fit a bit into a dremel its not its intended use and will not work well. You can engrave concrete with this! Hammer drill would be what you want.

  • Would bunnings price match this?

    • couldn't find it on their website

      • what is the bunnings closest equivalent set ?

      • They dropped this model a few months ago and seem to be reducing their Dremel lines

    • They should yes

    • +4

if the bunnings kit is in any way different to this one (which is likely) then they will be able to weasel out of price beating.

It's for that exact reason that bunnings tends to request unique bundles and kits of popular tools and gear, so they can claim it's technically a different product.

      • -2

also, some of their stuff might be of the same brand but is of inferior quality to different models. Just check where it is manufactured.

      • I recently had the surreal experience of having Bunnings staff tell me that the shelving I was trying to get a price match on was, whilst "likely" identical and certainly had interchangeable parts with their own, identical, set of shelves… They weren't going to price match / beat and weren't obligated to because the bar codes were different.

        That's company policy.

    • Word of warning - I bought an Ozito dremel clone and it didn't survive a week

  • Whats the difference between this and an angle grinder?

    • +7

This is a fraction the size and power of an angle grinder?

    • +24

It takes alot more skill to engrave Happy Birthday into glassware with a angle grinder

    • +3

An angle grinder cuts and grinds metal, or masonry (with a diamond blade).
A dremel is a finer grinder, for engraving and crafting.

  • Do you really need this much power in a rotary tool? How is it different from their lower powered ones and also $69 Ozito one?

    • It's the attachements that make it useful. There are so many, and for varied applications.

    • Shaping Eva foam destroys weaker dremels, sure there's similar issues with hard woods.

  • Thanks. Bought one. I need to sand / paint my timber sash windows. I'm guessing this would be good for getting in those fiddly gaps?

    • +1

Fiddly gaps only. Do as much as you can with real tools before breaking out the Dremel. Also, if you are using Scotch Brite pads, get them from eBay as they are about one twentieth the price of the Dremel branded ones!

  • Thanks OP, I missed out last time.

  • +2

If anyones interested, Amazon also have a Dremel butane gas soldering iron kit for $59.25 (down from $89):
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Dremel-Versatip-Soldering-pyrograp…

    • That looks identical to the Aldi ones

  • +5

Would this be better than the $159 cordless Dremel from Bunnings?

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/dremel-8220-1-28-10-8v-lithium-i…

It would seem like a no-brainer to buy a cordless one for $10 more but I'm sure there are things disadvantages other than the limited juice. Would there also be a lower power output?

    • I would like to know to! I am thinking of buying this one.

    • +6

You can always make the corded one cordless with the included cut off wheel

    • I found this: https://www.thesawguy.com/dremel-8220-vs-4000/#:~:text=That%….

Basically they say the only downside is the battery running out, so they recommend buying an extra battery.

Edit: Another comparison that recommends the 8220: https://healthyhandyman.com/dremel-4000-vs-8220/

      • I don't have either (yet) but some of the Bosch blue 12v drill batteries are compatible and are rated to 2.x ah instead of 1.6 ah (or something like that). You can also buy 3ah batteries for around 2 for $30 or so.

I've looked into it for many years but my Aldi rotary tool works fine for my limited use. It's still on my list of things to buy that I don't need.

    • The batteries of the cordless tool are meh.
Guy in Bunnings tried to talk me out of buying it but I have 2 spare batteries that came in a multitool kit I already had.

    • I got one of those. Very practical due to no cord but, like all battery powered tools the battery has its limitations….

  • Always wanted a Dremel but I have zero uses, I just like their small size. Good deal it seems

  • +2

    Showing as $225.00

  • +1

I love my Dremel. It isn’t something that I use every day, or even every month, but I’m sure glad I’ve got it when I need it!! Good deal!!

  • Price back up to 225.

  • +3

So glad the price went back up. I’ve been wanting to buy one for ages but don’t really have a lot of use for it. Was trying to justify the purchase…

    • The OzBargain dilemma.

  • Do you use dremmel for task such as removing tiles?

    • Hammer drill

  • Showing as $225

  • +3

Seems every time you click on an Amazon deal.
They always expired or have changed back to normal price.
They must be monitoring this site. LOL

    • I think they sold out, now the link goes to a 3rd party seller.

  • Yep - out of stock from Amazon at $149 - sold out - now 3rd party.

Blackwoods were the next best deal I found when looking a few months ago. Total Tools were happy to match & do a little better, but by the looks they are reducing their lines in Dremel and going for a less-expensive brand.

  • the toolpro one from sca can get you pretty far and its only like $40 from memory, ive cut through metal with no issues.

  • damn so bummed i missed this. Have been waiting out for one… Guess i'll get the 3000 from bunnings.
