  • Good deal but never heard of this company before

    • Founded in July 2019. Has a B&M store in Perth CBD (Shop204, 580 Hay Street, Perth, WA, 6000)

      • they should add that to their contact us page imo

        • +5

It's under "Click here to know more about us"

    • I swear I saw one or two associated deals from these guys back in 2019..

    • +1

Have you been living under an apple tree or something? ;)

  • SIM Card Type: Dual Nano-SIM

  • How is it compares to oppo 5G?

    • Dual Sim

      No 5g

  • +5

I think same as Oppo Reno 5G but without the 5G.
Which is a bargain. I don't think 5G is worth the extra $100 (JB and Harvey Norman were selling the 5G for $599)

    • +3

Yup, same phone without 5G. I think this one is not carrier related so updates should be directly from OPPO rather than waiting for Telstra or Optus.

    • +1

also, it's dual sim compared to single sim from the network variant

  • +1

    Is this Australian stock?

    • +2

      Australian Stock
      2 Years Manufacturer Warranty

  • Very good specs and price

  • +1

Buy this, think it's already android 10. 5g version is still waiting. And this is dual Sim. I personally brought 5g from JB. If I had choice, I'd go this for sure. Plus it is cheaper.

    • Have been enjoying Android 10 on mine since Dec '19. Very capable device with ample of ram and storage. Photos are great too and even has a gcam port that works very well (urnyx05). DXOmark camera rating is 125 vs OnePlus 8 pro (126) vs s20+ (127) vs pixel 4 (92!). Probably just a tad heavier than the competition but you will get used to it. Great buy if you can get it even at around $600.

      • Yes phone is good, but the 5g version is still waiting for cos 7 due this month. I managed get it from JB using my gifted gift card and discount gift card. Final cost is $398. Haven't start using it, waiting for major update.

        • Why do you need to wait for major update before using it?

          • @witsa: You do not have to.
I prefer a fresh phone to start with. Normally I do factory reset after every major update. Since this month my 5g version should receive the 10, Setup a new phone takes too much time.

            • @ce5himm:

Normally I do factory reset after every major update.

              Why?

              • @Arthur Dunger: Make sure you do not get any problems or issues from OTA. OTA sometimes cause unknown issues. Once factory reset. You have less chance to experience bugs. Eg. Battery drain, or other small issues.

            • @ce5himm: Did you get the 5g carrier variant?

If so unlikely you'll be getting Android 10 this month. It'll be more like 2021 if you'll get it at all.

I have that phone and the security patch is still from November 2019.

Cause it's carrier variant you'll need Optus approval as well. And since this isn't going to be one of their best sellers, it's unlikely to be on their priority list. Plus they're dropping Oppo so wouldn't surprise me if they don't even bother.

              • +1

@witsa: Mate, security patch is May 2020 now, go and check. Cos 7 come this month, check with coloros official Twitter. Posted 4 May . "June: RENO 5G Australia."

Maybe you do not need Optus to approve, cos my Telstra ver shares the same firmware with Optus ver.

                • @ce5himm: It is possible to download the "current" OS on the oppo website. It would be good if the 10x zoom and 5g had interchangeable firmware.

                  • @Caped Baldy: 10x and 5g firmware are not interchangeable. And I haven't heard official way to downgrade from cos 7 to cos 6.

                • @ce5himm: The June timeline is for the generic variant. Each carrier will still need to do their own testing and approve their own phones to get the update.

Just checked, still no may update for me. Guessing Telstra may be faster than optus?

Anyway hoping you're right and the update is coming this month but I bought the phone with the expectation there'll be few and late updates. Would be pleasantly surprised if I get one.

                  • @witsa: Normally that's the case. However for this phone, I do not know where you can buy the RETAIL STOCK. Mostly the stock are with Telstra/ Optus apps preinstall ed.

                    • @ce5himm: talk to oppo au, and get confirmed with
"Upon checking, the ColorOS 7 update for OPPO Reno 5G will be avaialble this June in Australia. However, we are unable to provide a specific time for that and this is being sent by batches too."
                      fingers crossing

                  • @witsa: hi mate, the wait is over, both T and O have received cos 7.1 NOW.

                    • @ce5himm: Nice. Just checked. I have it too. For once am very happy to be wrong!

                    • @ce5himm: i just installed it. What do you think?

I'm pretty happy with it. I like the dark mode and how the off-screen clock actually shows notifications now.

I don't like how the manual screen rotate button is still missing when using gesture navigation.

                      • @witsa: it is positive overall. However the battery life might not as good as cos6. Also still no 1080p for prime video is down for me.

                        • @ce5himm: how can you tell the battery life having just upgraded it?

the prime video thing im guessing is app related, not OS related. Surely the OS is capable of streaming at 1080p.

                          • @witsa: by reading from other's experience, 10x zoom has been updated to cos7 for a while all over the world. you can easily find compliants on battery life not as good as cos6. well, "not as good" does not mean terrible.

    • Just got the May 2020 security patch a few days ago. Android 10.

      • My 5g also received may 2020. But I really need is the cos 7

  • What about this seller? Are they reliable?

    • They have a B&M store in perth as posted above, so i'd say that's good enough.

      • thanks. i didnt see that information replied.

  • Weight: About 215g

    đź’€

    • Much less than the Samsung s20 ultra.

      • The S20 Ultra is 5 more grams and has far superior specs to this phone

        • Sorry, I thought it was about 250grams, was a few months ago when I looked I guess.

          • @PVA: imagine talking phone call for more than 10 mins. u will feel the pain

            • @hopper: Yes, way too heavy, both this and the Samsung. Holding to watch a video etc.
No phones should be that heavy.

        • This is less than half the price of the S20 Ultra. I wouldn't say it is "far superior" either.

          • +1

@Caped Baldy: I'm simply emphasising the weight comparison above. Bigger battery, more cameras, twice the RAM.

There's a reason the S20 weighs what it does but its spec:density ratio is better.

I do agree is price:spec ratio is not. But we are talking weight not price in this thread

            • @WilhelmBargo: Agreed on the points (ram is 8 vs 12 though). But we are on ozbargain so price is important. I would rate the snapdragon as better than the exynos though.

        • +2

Depends which specs. The SD855 is pretty well up there with the Exynos 990…

          https://versus.com/en/qualcomm-snapdragon-855-vs-samsung-exy…

    • Yeah, the wrist and elbow tendonitis is getting worse bcos of this phone. Kinda sucks not being able to FAP during the lockdown.

      • You need to have physio, or get a new one.

    • Par for course for big phones. If you want a light phone, go small.

      • agreed, but most of the budget phones are heavy in weight (except pixel 3a and iphone se which are above $600). looking a decent phone with good specs. was trying to fish s10e on marketplace which has dual sim <$500

  • +2

If it is Australian stock, then don't worry about the seller, any warranty issues can be claimed directly from Oppo Service Centres.

  • Sold out already :(

    • Oh, damn.

      I got mine @ 1:07 PM..

    • +1

I still see it as available. I can still add to cart and chekc out.

    • +1

It doesn’t say sold out on the site or when I add to cart.

    • Just bought one 3 mins ago, still in stock (seemingly)

  • Personally I wouldn't buy from online shop, just to avoid potential annoying warranty claims. Wait for jbhifi or HN.

    • Dont see either store carrying this phone currently.

    • If it is Australian stock, then don't worry about the seller, any warranty issues can be claimed directly from Oppo Service Centres.

  • bought one thanks

  • +4

I emailed them to change it from a black to a green and they replied back within 30 min.
    Thumbs up

    • What's wrong with black :(

    • Black phones matter

  • Bought one, cheers OP

  • +1

    Bought a green one, thanks

  • +1

Just spoke with store it's definitely dual sim and still in stock, ordered thx OP

  • Green for me, glad I cancelled 5G from HN (cancelling process was a nightmare BTW)

  • +1

Just bought one. Still in stock both colours. The one that is sold out is the 5G version. At these prices, those mid spec phones aren't that attractive anymore. Thnx

  • Is this a 4G phone not a 5G version? (Even though store is called 5G world)

  • +1

    4g

  • I've been waiting for an s10e deal. Should I get this?

    • Yes.

    • If you don't mind a BIG phone.

  • difference between this and reno 5g?

    • +1

This is Phone is 4G Compared to 5G
This Phone is Not Carrier Locked so it should receive Updates Faster
& I believe this is Dual Sim
I might be missing a Few Things
Oh & This Phone is $100 cheaper than the previous Reno 5G Deal…

  • I've been wanting a Huawei p30 pro and holding out for a deal on that, but just bit the bullet and got this out of pure desperation! Here's to hoping I don't regret it! Any decent case suggestions for this phone also?

    • +2

I think it comes with a free case in the box

      • How does this compare to the p30 pro? I am in a similar boat!

        • I looked at some quick comparisons and the Huawei does seem like the better option in terms of battery and camera, but I think this holds up ok. For about $500 less I figured I wouldn't know the difference or count my losses once this Oppo was in my hand.. if a cheap deal for the Huawei p30 pro comes up I will be kicking myself though, that's for sure.

      • Any idea if that case rugged and safe for few accidental drops ? Had three phone write offs due to accidental fall :(

        Thanks

        • +1

          clumsy phones.

    • This is about as safe an investment you can find right now.

    • My Reno 5g came with a case and plastic screen protector. I'm struggling to find a glass one that fits. I've tried two different ebay sellers in Aus but they're too small. I've tried ordering a couple from aliexpress but am now playing the waiting game.

      • If you want full edge cover, sometime it is case unfriendly. That's why most of them only cover the display, not edge to edge. I brought one recently, I will see how it goes
